Authentic working harbour

Whitstable Harbour is a fully fledged working harbour with a unique twist. Simply watch the world go by as fisherman set sail, enjoy a wander around the harbour village or try the fresh seafood on offer including the world famous Whitstable oyster! The harbour is also an open-air showcase of locally-created, British made, premium and hand-crafted goods and fine art. Set up as a series of 'stall's housed in the old renovated Fishermans' huts. Enjoy the paintings, drawings, prints and photography of artists settled alongside skilled craftspeople, who feature an eclectic roster of distinctive goods, including jewellery, wrought iron work, ceramics, textiles and furniture. The micro eateries serve a mouth watering variety of food ranging from fresh wraps, burgers, Thai, and it would not be Whitstable without a delicious serving of fried fish.

Beach

Whitstable’s beach is a pebble affair, but don't let that put you off. Hardy souls swim here all year round, but if that's not you you can still pack some flip flops when the weather's warm and go for a dip. Remember to check the tide times – when the water’s out, it’s not always possible to enjoy more than a paddle.

The New Inn is Whitstable's oldest pub. Built in the 1830s, it served railway workers, dockers and fishermen who all lived in the surrounding cottages. Nowadays, the pub attracts a wider clientele, but is still an unpretentious and friendly family run pub.

Once known as Tankerton Towers, Whitstable Castle is really a vast home built for the Pearson family in the 1790s. Today you can take afternoon tea or simply wander around its well-kept gardens and manicured lawns. A quintessentially English experience.

Best for Michelin Star dining. This is a foodie’s destination in its own right. Despite the weatherbeaten exterior and the informal pub setting, the food is truly outstanding and amazingly good value considering its fame. It's a little way outside Whitstable in Seasalter.
