This area is the heart of the North Poconos. Great for hiking but if you still need to reach a big box store for essentials this is your best bet. It's also home to a unique sandwich shop that has been featured in the New York Times. For fans of The Office, this is also where they filmed scenes for Schrute Farms.

In the summer, this is a camper’s paradise full of swimmers, and folks on rafts, kayaks, and tubes; off season it’s quiet and lovely. On the river, large flat rocks heat up in the sun and form excellent spots to sit and read, swim from, and enjoy the pristine river views.

I love this place. Tanners Falls Trail near Honesdale, Pennsylvania features a beautiful waterfall and the ruins of a tanning community that lived on - and harnessed the power of - the falls.
