This hotel, which has a wonderful atmosphere and a great bar with roaring fire, serves excellent food in the bar and restaurant. It’s a little further afield, but well worth the drive as this is a lovely Stannary town of Chagford, on the Dartmoor National Park.

Excellent food and a nice atmosphere. There is a lovely garden for sitting out in the summer.

If you decide to venture to this great surfing beach, the Beach Hut or Watergate Bay Hotel Living Space are highly recommended for a light bite, lunch or dinner. The Beach Hut tends to be very busy, particularly in the evenings, so worth booking in advance.

Sightseeing

Chagford is a lovely stannary town in the heart of the Dartmoor National Park. It has a good selection of independent stores and cafes in a very attractive town centre and is well worth a visit. There is also a wonderful walk to Meldon Hill nearby.

Arts & Culture

This beautiful cathedral city, situated to the north of Dartmoor winding along the river Exe, is 35 minutes east along the A30. There are numerous shopping destinations, with the Princesshay Shopping Centre the main one in the city centre. Dating back to the Roman era, there are a wealth of historical and cultural sites to be explored, including the medieval underground passages. Definitely recommended as a day trip rather than a short visit as there is so much to see.

Roadford Lake is just a 10 minutes’ drive. This beautiful 730 acre lake and country park is perfect for a waterside cycle, or walk in fact. There are also several cycle trails through the woodlands. The Camel Trail is a very well-known 18 mile cycle trail in Cornwall and the Granite Trail runs from Okehampton to Lydford. If you are looking for something a little more adventurous, Roadford Lake Water Sports Centre is just 10 minutes' drive, with kayaking, paddle boarding and sailing all available.

In addition to the small town centre, which a great range of small independent shops, post office, chemists and banks, etc, supermarkets include Tescos, Lidl, Coop, Marks & Spencer Food Hall. Also, don’t miss Philip Warrener, a superb butcher on the Penygillam Estate.
