More than just food - there are also arts, flowers, homewares and so on. Some of Sydney's iconic restaurants have stalls here where you can sample without the full time/cost of the restaurant. Busiest on Saturday, there is also a small market on Sunday also. This is next door to your flat in Fitzroy Gardens.

Locals swim in this chlorinated fresh-water pool beside Wooloomooloo Bay - but importantly there is a very lovely cafe above it with an outlook into the bay, Naval base and harbour. Breakfasts are great - and I've enjoyed a few long afternoons with jugs of Pimms too. Watch the swimmers and sunbathers, or get down on the deck and join them - a casual adult entry fee is just $6.40 (as at Jan 17)

Claire de Lune is a famous drag queen of Sydney, and the world (otherwise known as Marc Kuzma). Claire is a great supporter of the gay and broader community - and Marc is also an amazing French chef. Claire's Kitchen is top quality, with professional French waiter service, a chic interior and a superb French Brasserie menu with a few modern twists. This won't be a camp-kitsch meal, it's high-end, it's fabulous and everyone is welcome!

Drinks & Nightlife

Opened in 1947 by Abe Saffron, the Roosevelt in Potts Point was the most successful and infamous club in Australia. It brought a touch of Hollywood to town, with wonderfully produced shows, the likes of which had not been seen in Sydney; Sammy Davis Jr, Ella Fitzgerald and Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra were flown in to perform. The club became the most important stop for Sydney’s elite, including politicians, high-ranking police and judges. Early photos show Australia’s high society in attendance; the men dressed in double-breasted suits and hats and the ladies in evening gowns and furs. It was all glitz and glamour - and it's a tonne of fun and more than a bit glam to this day.

Steeped in history, this renovated pub is much more subdued now than during some of its wild history. There are good burgers for $15 and plenty of great beers on tap. Sit out the front and watch the passing parade - eccentric locals, exotic supercars and everything in between. Sunday afternoons have live solo musicians.

This is right underneath the iconic Opera House, mostly outdoors (but some indoors) and looks across Circular Quay to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This pub changes 'scene' depending on the day of the week and time - there's something for everyone and everyone's welcome. Beresford Sundays from 3pm have happy hour 6-8pm. It's Sydney's most glamourous Sunday at a pub. All the beautiful boys muscle around trying to impress each other. Upstairs dancing starts around 6pm with some of Sydney's top DJs. It gets packed out. A fun way to wrap up the weekend.

Pick up some food and drink from Potts Point Deli, Woolorths or other providores on Macleay St and join the locals for a picnic in the gardens. The grassy waterfront area on the main bay is particularly picturesque. Watch out for the characterful Sulfur Crested Cockatoos, often screeching joyfully throughout the area.
