Incredible Dim Sum! Must order items: - Turnip Cake (not a cake -- it's a savoury dish) - Cheng fun (either duck or prawn -- or both!) - Egg Custard Cake (my favourite dish -- we moved to Edinburgh for this dish!) - Any pick of their Dim Sum

Delicious French food (or as delicious as it's going to get in U.K.) They have great lunch specials daily, including weekends: 1 course £5.90, 2 courses £7.90, 3 courses £9.90 (set menu).

This place is great if you're looking for a grocery store that stocks foods from all over Europe. It is dominantly eastern European. I suggest you pop in to see all the different foods they have on offer.

We have not eaten here yet, but it's been open for a few months and it's always busy! It has 5 stars on google maps, probably all from the staff, but that's ok!

We have eaten here quite a few times. It's good chinese food set in a very warm and cosy restaurant. It's so cosy, that there are only about six or seven tables.

*A must try!* If you come to Edinburgh, you have to stop here. It's a gelatoria with truly unrivaled gelato (creamy ice cream - but I don't consider it as such because it's in a completely different class of its own). Their flavours are genuine and range from all over the spectrum. The employees know me as the "banana- cinnamon" guy. Can you guess what my favourite flavour is? FYI, closed mondays.

If I ever find myself in a situation where I am having to sort out my last meal, I would have for dessert the Guinness Cake from Stockbridge Kitchen. It's essentially very, very moist chocolate cake with a delicious cream based icing. You just need to go try it! Or the many other delicious cakes she makes.

The Jolly Botanist is a gin bar and a must-do, even if it's just for one drink. From their website: "Scouring the globe for rare botanicals and extraordinary liqours, our bewinged and exquisitely suited explorer The Jolly Botanist has returned to offer rare and experimental delights for the demanding paletes of his many patrons." Sounds a bit pretentious, but it's not that kind of place. It's a great chance to try some delicious gins.

This is a must-do. Free entry and you can spend hours walking the well manicured plants, flowers, and trees. In addition, there is the biggest glass house you've seen sporting 11 different areas housing vegetation from 11 climates. (Glasshouse £5.50)

Essentials

The best way to describe Lidl is a fairly good sized grocery store with in-house "bakery" and great produce/fruit. They don't carry many name brand foods. You will be able to find whatever it is you like, just an off-brand. Doesn't sound very appealing, but it's a great store.

Co-op is the same large size as Lidl and carries normal, all name brand items. We still prefer shopping at Lidl solely based on the prices (generally 20% cheaper than Co-op) and the fruit and veg are much better at Lidl.

Getting Around

Train station that can get you as far as you'd like outside of Edinburgh. Fancy a quick trip to London? Here's your station. It takes 4 minutes to get some front door to platform. This is also where you will catch the bus or tram for airport transportation.

Shopping

This is where you can find me on Saturday mornings at 11 AM. Ramsay Cornish is an antique auctioneer. I was introduced to this place by some friends and it's been one of the most valuable experiences. This is a place that you have the opportunity to buy beautiful antique pieces at extremely reasonable prices. On Wednesdays, check their website via google and you can view the weekly auction catalogues. The items in the catalogue go to auction the following Saturday. ALSO! if you're bummed that you won't be able to make the auction for whatever reason, they have what is called a "Lane Sale" every Thursday at 11AM. There are much smaller items that auction in the range of £1 to £20.

Stockbridge is a one of the many eclectic parts of Edinburgh. They have many charity shops (approximately 10 pretty much in a row). Ask me about the walking route to Stockbridge that shows you some picturesque sides of Edinburgh. Also, please see my recommendations of Pete's Yard and Stockbridge Kitchen. There is a market on Sundays in Stockbridge.
