With restaurants, the Gate Cinema, bookshops, Portobello Rd, and beautiful streets lined with stunning houses, Notting Hill is a popular place to visit (and is even more so after the release of the film with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant). It is a short bus ride, take the 31 or 328 from in front of The Squirrel.

Edgware Road is well known for its Middle Eastern influences, and as you walk down it you can smell grilled meats and smoke from the hookah pipes. At the opposite end is Marble Arch and Oxford Street. Walk past Warwick Avenue Station on Warwick Ave, and turn right at the end onto Edgware Rd/Maida Vale.

Parks & Nature

Walk along the canals from Little Venice to Regents Park, or take a canal trip to Camden (in the spring or summer). Lined with narrow boats and barges, this is one of our favourite walks in the area. Perhaps have a picnic in Regents Park once you get there.

For me, Regents Park is the most beautiful park in London, with open fields, manicured gardens and the rose garden. Take the tube, or if you fancy a long walk, it takes about 45 minutes from the flat.

Shopping

One of the most famous shopping districts in London, with the iconically British Selfridges department store. A short bus ride from Shirland Road, take the number 6 or the 414 from in front of 123 Cleaners (you can also go by tube to Oxford Circus).

Portobello Road has long been famous for it's antiques, fashion and food...and for where Paddington Bear would meet his friend Mr Gruber, the antiques dealer. The top end of the road is quite pricy but worth seeing, it gets cheaper and more varied as you walk along. Take the 6, 31, or 328 from in front of The Squirrel.

Sightseeing

Visit Abbey Road Studios in St John's Wood and see the zebra crossing which featured on the cover of the Beatles 1969 album 'Abbey Road'. It's about a 25 minute walk up Elgin Ave - turn right out the front door. Elgin Ave turns becomes Abercorn Place. When you get to the end, turn right and you will see the crosswalk.
