Food Scene

This is a fantastic bistro restaurant right at the end of our road. It is extremely popular so you do need to book. You can take your own alcohol which is great at keeping costs down, and the food is absolutely amazing. We love it!

What can we say? Just stunning - right on the lake with panoramic views across the water. Food is great too, if a little expensive. Though a bacon buttie and a cup of tea overlooking the water won't set you back too much :) It is licensed too, so you can order a bottle of wine and enjoy some drinks and giggles in a fabulous setting.

Well situated (a 1 minute walk from Puddleduck), this lovely, friendly shop has everything you should need for your stay. The butchers at the back of the shop offer fantastic food - truly recommend the steak! You can buy everything from milk and bread to all normal household items.

Drinks & Nightlife

We love the Yewdale Inn - perfect for pub grub and a relaxing place to drink and socialise. The owner is very friendly and welcoming and therefore it's our favourite pub!

The Ship Inn is a small uphill walk from the village, but the views definitely make it worth it. We tend to go here for drinks and either sit in the large pub garden with stunning views of the mountains or just inside the conservatory - with all the views yet warm and toasty.

Another pub in Coniston, right at the end of Ruskin Avenue! Traditional English pub with good menu (love the steak and ale pie!) and TV screens with football etc.. on - though not too intrusive as there are quiet areas in the pub also.

We stop here for drinks in the summer, after walking Tarn Hows! There is a fantastic garden and direct access down to the Lake.

Arts & Culture

Wonderful historical house situated on an elevated position overlooking Coniston Water. Was the home of the eminent John Ruskin. A trip around the house gives you a good idea of how he lived his life, there are also arts and crafts exhibitions and a cafe. A walk around the grounds is a must - the views across the water are out of this world. Trek up higher behind the house and the views are divine - across the water to the Coniston mountain range.
