Food Scene

a true diner but very high quality food. Make sure to have a bloody Mary. not great for large parties over 4 (they have a lot of four-person booths). Great kids' menu/crayons, etc. breakfast and lunch only. strangely they close at 5pm and are closed on tuesdays and wednesdays I think.

casual outdoor dining--great tacos! You sit at a picnic table outside overlooking the Tannery Brook. Sort of a secret little spot behind Tinker Street. I've only been for lunch, but it is probably open for dinner too.

Expensive gourmet corner store for groceries, but they also have good donuts and baked goods, as well as decent deli sandwiches. You could eat there but usually we get to go! Open fairly early and late for those emergency essentials on the food front.

a real butcher! great quality. They also have beer and essential groceries, a bit overpriced. try the individually wrapped little loaves of bread (pumpkin, banana, etc.)--they are clearly baked by the owners or someone local and they are excellent!

I love this bar! Great beer, grilled cheese, great cocktails. They have a nice little deck outside for whiling away the hours, and the inside is equally atmospheric. They often have live music so ask if they have anything! We have brought our kids and hung out on the deck during the day. Lots of dogs on the deck too.

This is a famous swimming hole in the Catskills, and it is stunning. Parking can be tough (do not park illegally--you will be ticketed) but there are a few designated lots along the road and you may have to walk a bit from your car. Arrive as early as you can to get the best parking. However, the spot is really special and has both deep and shallow swimming areas. Bring a picnic lunch/cooler and chairs if you like--people tend to camp out for the day.

Great spot for kids. Bouncy thing and playground, farm animals, pick your own everything from berries to corn to green beans to pumpkins, and there's a farmer's market. there is also a hut for hotdogs and burgers and ice cream if you need to eat there too (can't vouch for the food). My kids LOVE kelders and the strawberry picking is our thing every early Summer. We end up eating more than make it into the baskets, but that's part of the fun!
