Lots of excellent restaurants on this section of Shattuck Ave in North Berkeley, collectively known as "Gourmet Ghetto." Boasting such world famous spots as Chez Panisse--if you want to eat in their formal dining room, you'll want to make reservations far in advance, but the attached "Cafe" is slightly more casual and often available on much shorter notice. For most other restaurants and eateries in this neighborhood, you can just show up!

They have good sandwiches and a wide selection of European cheeses and meats, as well as a variety of specialty food items from Britain and Germany. The German and English couple who own the shop work most days and are always pleased to introduce visitors to their unique items.
