Parks & Nature

For a good walk, watch the salmon fishing in the river during summer, kids playing, horses riding by - this is our small adventure valley, and you can take long or short walks here. This is where locals take a walk with their dog, a run or a bike ride in the evening.

Feeling this is a good day for a relaxing spa and sauna, with a view over the see and Bessastaðir, where Iceland's president lives - Sky lagoon is a great place to relax (but bit expensive).

Sailing few kilometres out from Reykjavík can often give you a great opportunity to see the big and beautiful whales up close. We also have a whale museum with more information and full size models so you can realise how big they really are.

The latest eruption in Iceland was in 2021 in Geldingadalir, close to Grindavík and the Blue Lagoon. It is approx 2 hour hike to walk there for everyone in a fair shape, but bring warm clothes and wear good hiking shoes, as well as having water and something to eat - don't underestimate the Icelandic nature and weather.

Sightseeing

They are building a spectacular nature museum in Perlan. Now, they have opened a Glacier, which you can walk into a ice tunnel and experience yourself. When done, you end in an interactive floor full of information and experience about lifespan of glaciers. You can then go to the top floor and enjoy a coffee and cake while enjoying 360 view of Reykjavík. In the future they are going to add a Northern Lights exhibition, and much more there (opens in 2018). Even though this is under construction, this is a must see.

Gullfoss is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland. The wide Hvítá rushes southward, and about a kilometre above the falls it turns sharply to the right and flows down into a wide curved three-step "staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 metres or 36 feet, and 21 metres or 69 feet) into a crevice 32 metres (105 ft) deep. The crevice, about 20 metres (66 ft) wide and 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) in length, extends perpendicular to the flow of the river. The average amount of water running down the waterfall is 140 cubic metres (4,900 cu ft) per second in the summer and 80 cubic metres (2,800 cu ft) per second in the winter. The highest flood measured was 2,000 cubic
