Tissington is in my opinion, one of the prettiest villages in the area. It is approached via a grand gateway and an avenue of trees and is owned by the Fitzherbert family. It is famed for it's well dressing and is also a convenient point of access to the Tissington Trail.

Walks

Stunning easy walk along the river Dove, surrounded by the dramatic limestone cliffs, caves and pinnacles of the gorge on either side, and a variety of ancient woodland. For the more adventurous there is a steep scramble up Thorpe Cloud - or rock climbing, notably on Ilam Rock and Tissington Spires

Ilam Park is a Youth Hostel that is owned by the National Trust. Although the house does not open it is well worth a visit for the absolutely stunning views of Thorpe Cloud seen from just outside the Tearoom. There are also lots of beautiful walks around the garden, lake or towards the Stepping Stones at Dovedale. One of my most special places to visit on a lovely sunny day.

Coffee Shops

Don't let the fact that it is the former showroom of a busy fuel station put you off. It is one of my favourite places for coffee in the area and also has the added bonus of having an amazing interiors shop right next to it. Free parking outside and a perfect place for your first coffee to start the day off.

A wonderfully unspoilt village pub, built as farmhouse in the 1600's and becoming a pub early in the 19th century. Few changes have been made over the years and the present landlady and her family have been running the pub for over 40 years.

A gorgeous country hotel that was totally refurbished in 2020 and has since won The Sunday Times Hotel of the Year Award. Good, but pricey meals, served in a beautiful conservatory. A great place to pop in for a drink in the Summertime but beware, the service charge is added to everything. Despite this, it's a beautiful place to sit and gaze at the gorgeous Derbyshire countryside.
