MILK is my favourite cafe and is less than 5 minutes from the flat. They do amazing work training female asylum seekers in employment skills and lots of other interesting stuff. Great food, tasty coffee and work by local artists on the walls.

Entertainment & Activities

The Glasshouse is home to a collection of reptiles, turtles and spiders and other animals most of which have been removed from unsuitable homes/owners. I'm not a big fan of seeing animals in captivity but I hope these animals are better off in a carefully controlled environment than they were elsewhere.

Arts & Culture

Kelvingrove and the Riverside Museums are the jewels in Glasgow's museum crown but if you want to stay on the Southside then the Burrell is a beautiful, quiet and contemplative space. Most of the exhibits owe their inclusion to the proprietorially colonial 'collecting' of the eponymous Sir William Burrell Jr but this is just one of many shady facets of Glasgow's complex and cloudy history.

This is a brilliant theatre in the Gorbals (one of Glasgow's more economically challenged areas). They have a busy programme of plays throughout the year some of which are commissioned by the theatre themselves. The Citz sell discounted tickets to local people and the atmosphere is always great.
