Great place to bring your family - very sheltered beach is great for younger kids, playground, volleyball court, and field for frisbee, etc. And there are quiet trails around the perimeter with beautiful views of harbor and ocean. One of our favorite places for sure.

More like a small mountain, but still, it IS a mountain. There are several trails to the top, slow to fast. You can actually see the ocean from the top, which is all exposed rock. There are fields and a playground for families too. Very nice spot, and cool during the summer.

Fantastic beach and much less congested than Popham. Sometimes it gets very foggy, but it is always beautiful. Well worth the 40 min drive.

Great local beer, especially if you like having 15 choices for IPAs. The food is nothing to speak about and there are not many choices. Atmosphere is fun and very casual. Don't let the strip mall location keep you away - you won't even notice it once you are inside.

Our favorite cocktail place in Portland. Great snacking food and light "board style" menu. You can go in your t-shirt and shorts or on your way out to a fancy dinner. Sometimes there is a wait, but reservations are usually pretty easy to make if you try a few days ahead.

Delicious food, fantastic cocktails, and a friendly staff. This is NOT a tourist trap as we locals go there frequently, but the prices are set to Portland standards.

Food Scene

Delicious and feels just a bit "bigger" than Freeport. Very open atmosphere, good lighting and comfy seating. There is a HUGE wait on weekends, so be prepared to leave your name about an hour before you want to eat, unless you arrive at 8pm or later. The pizzas are delicious and so are the mussels. The beer list is pretty good too.

Typical brew pub, with outdoor seating and kids play area. Great for those who are going out for margaritas and nachos with coworkers, couples on a date, and families. It really is a good mix. The food is decent and the beer is local!

Right on the water. You can eat at the tables or down on the dock. Great location for lobster rolls, fish and chips, clams, strawberry shortcake - you name it. NOTE: Cash or check only. It is touristy, because tourists HAVE to go there, but locals do too. It is too good to miss. Bring your own bottle.

Green walls, fireplaces, animal heads. Super homey with good mood lighting. Very good Maine-ish food, some of it local. Plenty of salads, seafood, meats, pizza, etc. The pizzas are VERY good if you want "gourmet" pizza. Good local beers too. The desserts are fantastic. The brunch is totally worth the $17 or so, if you are a big eater. Good for dates and families too.

Really very good speciality pizzas and salad to go, or you can eat there. They have a few places, including Portland. If you want to eat in, go to Portland - they have the best vibe in that location. Gluten free crust is the best GF option we have had, MUCH better than the GF at Maine Beer.

For oysters and other yummy things go here. But be prepared for a wait. Put your name in and then go walk around the Old Port. Tiny tables and small menu but GREAT experience.

They always have great productions. Well worth checking out and pay what you want prices. You'll find high school kids to professional actors, but the direction is always top notch and the seating is all good, and the prices couldn't be better.

Essentials

Simple best place to go, and it's a five minute walk from our place. Fresh local (and not) meats, seafood, lobster, veggies (local and organic and not), great wine and beer selection and people to help you choose, plus all of the basics. Locally owned forever. They don't use plastic bags and encourage you to bring your own.
