Shopping

Leyburn is the largest town in Wensleydale but still retains in rural charm and is lovely place to wander around with plenty of shops and places to eat/drink. Leyburn has everything from ATM's, Boutique Shops, Supermarket to Tennant's Auction House which we love to visit for a look around and have a coffee in the bistro. A market is held in the square every Friday which coincides with the Livestock Mart - We love spending time watching the farmers bid for cattle and the kids can have a look around to see all the different breeds before calling in the cafe for a bacon sandwich!

Harrogate is a beautiful historic town and definitely worth a visit if you would like a day of shopping in lovely setting, the drive from Craggley takes about 1hr 15 but is very scenic so the time passes quickly. All of the major shops can be found here plus some high end boutique shops if you want to treat yourself. :)

Darlington is around 45 minutes by car and has all of the main high street shops and also the cornmill shopping centre, it wouldn't be my first choice for a day out but if you want high street shopping in close proximity it is the ideal choice.

Food Scene

We always enjoy a visit and sometimes walk down in the summer, have lunch in the beer garden(stunning views) before heading back to West Burton. Lunch and Dinner are always excellent and the pub a superb choice of real ales, the staff have always been very friendly and it's close proximity to Craggley make it a good all round choice.

This is a great place for breakfast or lunch especially if you have kids, we often call in on the way back from Bedale and have some lunch. There is an excellent outdoor play area with football goal, swings, slides, tractors etc and also playrooms inside. Th e views are stunning, there are generally lots of families around but still a nice play to call in as a couple

I know you may not be a cyclist but the homemade cakes are tremendous, real coffee and all served with a smile in a beautiful part of Swaledale. We often walk in the area and this is a great place to stop on the way for breakfast or on the way back for afternoon tea. Well worth a visit. #cake

The Heifer is our restaurant of choice for a special occasion Dinner although we do call in for a lunch if we are walking in the area, the food is fantastic for both options. The service and atmosphere are superb, steak and lobster are a real treat and as good as I have had anywhere although the Fish and Chips are hard to turn down. Less than 10 minutes away in a taxi so idea when staying at Craggley.

Drinks & Nightlife

The Falcon Inn is one of our favorite pubs and always a great 'Pit Stop' on our way back from Malham Cove. The drive to Arncliffe is stunning and the area has some of the best walking country in the Dales, with some unspoiled villages which haven't changed in decades. The Falcon Inn is a real traditional Dales pub serving local food, no fuss and hand pulled ales still served from a stone Jug. Ploughman's lunch or locally supplied pie washed down with a real Ale while the kids play on the village green, perfect in my humble opinion! :)

We often like to call into the Fox for a couple of drinks while Dinner is in the oven, very friendly pub and locals and we always end up chatting to someone different over a Black Sheep. The Fox often has something going on and is lovely in the summer as you can sit outside while the kids play on the village green. The food is excellent value with huge portions if you fancy a change, on a summer night Sam and Millie like to play while we eat but order a home made pizza to take back to Craggley.

York is ideal if you fancy a day out without spending hours in the car, it takes about 1hr 15 but we often drive to Northallerton and jump on the train to York. York is a wonderful place and you could spend hours walking around the historic city, a few must s while in York - Cathedral, Walk down the Shambles and along the river and a visit to the Railway Museum or Dungoens(The kids love both)

A great day out, stunning drive through some of England best scenery followed by a lovely walk down to the Cove or to the top if you feeling adventurous. The view from the top is something else and if you are lucky you will see the nesting peregrine falcons that the cove are also famous for. Malham is an all round lovely place and we always like to finish the day with a picnic or lunch in the Lister Arms - Especially nice sitting outside on a sunny day

Richmond is often called the 'Capital of the Dales' with a museum, castle, shops, river walks and lots more. Great place to spend a day and a good option for a rainy day with a swimming pool, museum and cinema located at the Old Station. Lots of quirky and boutique shops as you explore around the town, only 30 minutes from Craggley so a great option for families or couples looking for a day out.
