Elios or Neo Klima village lies 19 km west of Skopelos town, surrounded by dense pine tree forests. The first houses are built at the bottom of Elios, around the picturesque port. Elios is a relatively new settlement, built in 1981 after the destruction of Klima village by the major earthquake in 1965. The locals who moved there managed to create a new village was from the start in a beautiful region full of pine trees. A little wharf was also made for the boats. In the heart of the village there are some accommodation, nice fish taverns and local shops. For swimming you can visit the main beach and a number of other beautiful beaches like Hovolo and Armenopetra

Glossa village Skopelos: Glossa is the second major settlement of Skopelos, located 25 km north west of the island's capital. Glossa is built amphitheatrically on the mountain slopes, 250 meters above the sea. It is surrounded with pine forests, almond trees and plane trees. Glossa charms its visitors with its two-storey whitewashed houses and cute balconies overlooking the sea. At the bottom of the village lies the lovely port where ferries connect the village with the nearby islands and the isolated beaches. Among the best sightseeings of Glossa is the Monastery of Taxiarhes which lies on a fabulous location amidst pine tree forests. Ruins of Roman baths can be found near the port as well as 4th century BC remains of the citadel of ancient Selinous and ruins of a 5th century temple of Athena. The verdant lovely port offers hotel accommodation, rooms to rent and tasty taverns offering delightful fresh fish.

Skopelos Town is the first village ones sees while reaching the port. This little town which is the capital and main port of Skopelos is quite picturesque with lovely whitewashed houses, flower gardens and colorful balconies. Its fountains, its many little whitewashed churches, narrow streets and alleys compose the beautiful setting of the village. The town is built amphitheatrically amidst lush surroundings with a long labyrinth of alleys reaching the top of the hill where the ancient castle lies. At the bottom of the town, at the port where most of the activities take place during the summer, you will find plenty of restaurants, shops and modern accommodations.

MAMMA MIA SPOT: If you are in Skepelos or Skiathos this is a must see!! You can get there by car, or tour. If you don’t have either one take the bus to Glossa and a taxi will take you there. Take a water bottle with you for your climb to the church. Also something to cover your hands in the hot sun if you need to hold onto the railings where it is steep they get really hot. The view is breathtaking and if you are fortunate to be there at night, it is absolutely beautiful!!

It is a bit tricky to find the location, but the view from above is amazing. According to map, it can be reached from two points, but we were coming from Neo Klima towards Pano Kareia location, following road signs for Sandoukia. Turning left toward Sandoukia you should take a macadam road uphill until you see a big red (actually traffic) sign pointing to the right. There starts the hiking path to Sandoukia which isn't demanding but you need to wear sneakers, at least. Follow red marks along the path and you'll get there in 15 minutes or less. The highest point is pile of rocks but you need to continue down for a while to find Pirate Graves.

While it may be true that the focus of most is to get to Ag Ioanni (Mama Mia's church), a short stop at Ag Riginos on the way to the other end of the island provides a peaceful alternative. Martyred in the Church's early history, Agios Riggings was the first bishop and later the patron saint of Skopelos. The standing church and monastery compound is built on the original site that honored the martyr's life work and passing. The monks are long gone but the grounds are lovingly tended by--at the time of our visit--by a woman who continues to sell small items made by the monks on Athos and closer by monasteries. In the tradition of monasteries, she offers visitors pieces of sweet, loukoumia and
