Daniela is the very competent owner who has opened a bar, restaurant and small gourmet food shop. The restaurant is mildly sophisticated and satisfying, offering local Tuscan cuisine, located on the main square of the village which has a breathtaking view of the valley.

Not only a small hotel but also a very good restaurant, just a short way beyond the village towards the Spa, you will find La Fontanella. The food is delicious, the service attentive and the prices reasonable considering the level of the restaurant. Nila is the owner and chef.

Very sophisticated and elegant, take the rare opportunity to dine in a historic castle. It is very refined food and quite expensive (from 50 euros up) but worth it for the service and the interesting meals that are served. Plus, there is a good and varied wine list. Just up the hill that faces Camporsevoli, you will need to drive across Piazze towards Chiusi, then turn right in the direction of Palazzone, drive across this village and up the hill towards Fighine (there are signs).

An old institution in Citta della Pieve (a delightful town well worth a visit) recently restyled in a rather elegant, yet still local, way. Delicious local food, also pizza, with a specialty for grilled meats and bico (unleavened pizza dough cooked on stone and served with prosciutto cheese and vegetables on the side).

Just around the corner from the A1 highway exit in Fabro but you would not know. A very good, “nicer” restaurant which takes great care in the choice and preparation of their ingredients. A more creative menu than in your average local informal trattoria with lovely outdoors seating and dining in the summer.

Entertainment & Activities

A country Inn, with an excellent equestrian school, that also has a delicious restaurant with a terrace overlooking the clay hills of the Val d'Orcia - absolutely stunning. Perfect setting for summer sunsets with a drink on the terrace before dinner. They raise their own chickens, grow their own vegetables and make their own cured meats so you be surprised when you see how locally sourced their menu is. Be sure to take away some of their in house products made on sight for sale in reception.

There is a very family friendly biking itinerary that runs along the Val di Chiana, between Chiusi and Arezzo. It follows the canals that were created to dry up the swampy area of the Val di Chiana. It is very flat, catering to all levels from children to experts.

On the Via Cassia, on the way to Siena, there is Bagni di San Filippo a little village that grew around a natural source of hot sulphuric water. It runs along the side of the hill creating fascinating waterfalls and white formations with pools and natural slides. It is free but can be busy, and it will be very smelly but kids of all ages adore it.

These are central Italy's highest and strongest waterfalls. Used as a major source of hydroelectric power, the waterfalls are open at intervals and rafting, canyoning and other “extreme” water activities are arranged. Please do not expect the Colorado River, but it is rather enjoyable, well organized and activities planned to suit visitors of different ages, starting from very young child-friendly rafting that ends with a general plunge in a tranquil “pool” in the river.

Excellent meat, possibly the best in the area. Certainly THE place for steak (bistecca) and other barbecuing goodies. They now also prepare daily dishes (from sauces to meat, vegetables, desserts etc), which you can either go and choose based on what they have prepared or can have made to order. To get to the butcher, turn left in front of the old church, then left again. Note the playground on your right and turn right after the playground. Then left again at the first road, between two big new industrial buildings. Massimo's will be midway down the road, on your left. Opening times: Mon-Sat 8am-1pm, 4pm-8pm

The owner and main esthetician is Federica, who speaks good English and is a delightful young girl with surprisingly strong hands! She is very good at anything and her massages can be quite energetic. With Federica an appointment is essential and she is rather busy so you will need a few days advance notice, as she tends to be rather busy

Arts & Culture

Città della Pieve is on the other side of the valley from Camporsevoli, on the ridge of the mountain along the road that leads to Perugia. It is a wonderful little jewel, birthplace of Pietro Perugino, the renowned Renaissance painter, master of Raffaello. If you go, do not miss his fresco of the Adoration of the Sheperds at the Oratorio di Santa Maria dei Bianchi, open daily 9.30am – 12.30 and 3.30-5.30pm, on the main road in town.

Offers a fascinating introduction to the Etruscan culture, which preceded Rome, of which it was one of the Capitals. Chiusi is divided in two towns: Chiusi Scalo is the new town, built around the train station and does not offer much in terms of sightseeing but many useful services. Chiusi Città is above Chiusi Scalo. Its Museum holds many very important Etruscan artifacts and from the museum, at set times and days which you need to check once you get to the Museum, you can drive to the two Tombs a short way out of the city. The Museum of the Cathedral arranges guided tours of the undergrounds of the town, the Labirinto di Porsenna, enquire directly with them. Also interesting for kids!
