We have recently discovered this fabulous restaurant. As a family we are a mixture of gluten free and vegetarian and have found eating out difficult but no more! We went for the three course set meal and it was fabulous. Explained to the excellent waiting staff what we could and couldn't have and we had a first class dining experience! We had drinks on top and were not faced with a frightening bill at the end! May 2016, sad to hear that they have put their prices up!

Great coffee, tea and cake shop. The best carrot cake I have had in Holland perfect with a mug of fresh mint tea! There is free wifi and you can also buy and write a postcard there, walls are covered in them!

Great cafe to get a good bagel lunch, one of our favourites as they serve gluten free bagels! Loads of topping choices, speciality teas and coffees at a reasonable price.

There are three cinemas that often show films in English (subtitled in to Dutch) and an abundance of restaurants depending on your taste and budget. Several guided boat trips or guided walking tours available or do it yourself for free with the well signposted Leidse Loper (Leiden Loop).

One of the oldest botanical gardens in the world and the oldest in the Netherlands. You enter it through an archway of which the surrounding buildings are part of the Leiden University. I had cycled past this entrance many, many times without realising it was there! Lovely way to spend an afternoon and the cafe is good too.

I had cycled past this entrance many, many times without realising it was there! Lovely way to spend an afternoon and the cafe is good too.

A pretty green area situated to the north of Leiden. You are spoilt for choice with cycle and walking paths, windmills, canals and lakes. You can take a stroll through the small woodland area behind us by the farm or take a longer walk to the local lake and beyond!

Huge nature park to go for a good hike in. You need to purchase a card for Euro 1,50 to enter. Open from sun rise to sun set. Woodland, moorland and beach hikes from a few km long to as far as you wish to walk! Coloured posts mark the route you wish to follow. I can highly recommend the blue route about a 10 km hike. You will see and hear deer, lots of them!

t' Joppe is part of the large Kagerplassen (lakes). The public swimming and recreation area is found on the small island De Strengen. There is a roped off area for swimming and is popular with windsurfers and boats of all shapes and sizes! It is a pretty area surrounded by nature, so no cafe or toilet facilities. Also a lovely area to walk around.

t' Joppe is part of the large Kagerplassen (lakes). The public swimming and recreation area is found on the small island De Strengen. There is a roped off area for swimming and is popular with windsurfers and boats of all shapes and sizes! It is a pretty area surrounded by nature, so no cafe or toilet facilities. Also a lovely area to walk around.
If you love flowers then the Keukenhof is the must place to go! Set in lovely surroundings with more flowers than you could ever imagine! You can make a pleasant cycle tour from our place through the bulb fields, or catch one of the specially organised busses from outside Leiden Centraal.
In 2017 the Keukenhof is open from 23rd March until the 21st May and the theme is "Dutch Design". For the kids there is a treasure hunt, petting farm, maze and playground.
