This is a great thing to do. The Boy Scouts own an amazing place to go off Blue Ridge Mountain Road. Not too much but lots of stops for kids over the age of 6.

Hit it right and you and the kids can make a really cool piece of pottery on the cheap and they will mail it to you. Great place and guess what's on one side. A winery and guess what's on the other side, the cutest little sandwich, coffee, ice cream and pie shop you have ever seen. And a pond with picnic tables. Lots of fun to be had here. The wine and food are not cheap. But the art is definitely a good deal.
