Food Scene

Rumor has it this place is the highest Zagat rated restaurant in the Sacramento area. I'm not sure if that rumor still holds, but it's fabulous nonetheless. Go here for fine dining in a small town setting. Mushroom cigars are a must! They also have the occasional wine maker showcasing his or her wines with a Taste pairing menu.

Take one look at the pastries case and you'll know why Andrae's in the local haunt for baked goods. My personal faves are the chocolate hazelnut cookies.

It's a little bit of a drive, but you will not regret it. When you get there, say hello to Nana and drool as you oogle her variety of baked-with-love goods. Sunday brunch is sinful—order the Monte Cristo if they are serving it. Overall, it's a great little day trip exploring the historic gold rush town of Volcano.

It's great to have a brewery in your backyard! Just a five-minute drive from the house, Amador Brewing Company is a hangout for locals and visitors alike. The common thread: Good beer. In a region full of wineries, it's a must-have!

Provisions not only has a huge selection of craft beers and "provisions" in their bottle shop, but they have an excellent rotating tap, as well as wine available and live music most weekends.

The only wine tasting room located in downtown Plymouth, Prospect Cellars is the jumping off point to the Shenandoah Valley wineries. It has an excellent prospector-themed wine selection that pays tribute to the areas forefathers and a long line of farmers and cowboys. The ladies in the tasting room are kind and energetic, making it a great place to taste or sit on the patio with a bottle of Gold Digger.
