Great for fishing boats and atmosphere. Almost a Cornish looking village with lots of mackerel boats. Fishmonger on beach front is great. Duckies café on the beach from April to October also. In summer, the local pub gets mackerel fresh off the boat, and BBQs in front of you – so fresh!

By car this is at least an hour and a quarter, but we think is one of Devon’s best kept secrets. A very small, old fishing village, which is hidden down windy lanes. You can get a ferry there from Dartmouth. The pub on the water front (the Ferryman) has views to die for, and great food too.

Shopping

Lots of nice independent shops, a very pretty seafront and superb sea views of the Jurassic Coast. Drive up the big hill to the west for superb views, and carry on to Otterton for walks to the coast alongside the river.

25 minutes away but worth it. Has a gentle sloping beach so good for all ages, and also the cliffs behind are a world heritage site due to the amount and quality of fossils you can find. Bring (or hire) a hammer!

Half a mile west of Branscombe and very secluded. Big steps down to the sea, so not for the frail, but very quiet and beautiful.
