Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is a wonderland for birdwatchers and explorers alike. Thousands of gulls, razorbills, common murres, black-legged kittiwakes, northern gannets, and double-crested and great cormorants nest here. Where 20,000 scoters, long-tailed ducks, harlequin, dovekies, thick-billed murres, and kittiwakes winter. This captivating area is one of seven protected seabird ecological reserves. Its natural beauty makes it perfect for nature walks and family adventures.

The massive cliffs at Cape St. Mary's ecological reserve offer excellent viewing opportunities of the Northern Gannet nesting grounds. You will find approximately 24,000 of these amazing sea birds soaring through the skies and clustering on the clifftops at the reserve. Several other bird species nest along the lower ledges of the cliffs, including black-legged kittiwakes and razorbills, although in far smaller numbers than the Northern gannet. From Salmonier Line, the drive to the ecological reserve is mainly through barren wilderness and takes about one and a half hours, some sections without cell service.

One of the best eco-parks in Newfoundland! A must-see for nature lovers! You’ll also notice the amazingly scenic drive through the cape shore highway does not disappoint either!
