Popular snorkeling spot. Easy to get in and out here. It's not a beach, though. But you can do this and the City of Refuge (Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park) together since they are right next door to each other. About 40 minutes south of Kona.

Pae'a (aka "Two Step") in Captain Cook. Just outside and to the right of Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park. You'll park along the road and walk to the lava rock formation. You'll see everyone lining up at one end of the lava rock where it's 2 steps down and you're in the ocean! Amazing coral for snorkeling here. Lots of locals and sometimes even an outrigger club may be practicing so stay out of their way when exploring.

Awesome snorkeling destination with a lot of history in the area. Getting into the water can be hard when the tide is high and the rocks get slippery, so avoid walking with fins on. It's an upbeat, friendly atmosphere—lots of families and kids.
