The neighborhoody vibe of this understated French restaurant and wine bar transports you to Paris for the night. It’s run by super cool people and attracts a young, hip crowd. The menu changes often so you can go frequently and not eat the same things. Look for dishes like beef tartare, fried squid, and pork rillette. You feel good after eating here. They serve some of the best bread in the city. It has the perfect crust to it it and is really flaky and crunchy but still soft enough to eat without hurting your mouth. Perfect for dipping in olive oil.

Chef duo Jeremiah Stone and Fabian von Hauske Valtierra of Contra opened a more casual wine-bar-meets-restaurant spot on Orchard Street which has proven to be an LES standout. All of the seating is at high-top, communal tables, and it's walk-in only. The wine list is first-rate, but this isn't just a spot for drinks, so come hungry and attempt to order as many of the very shareable plates as you can.
