Take a boat ride out from Eastern Passage and walk around this former first line of defense in the middle of the harbour. The cannons are still there, as well as some old houses and bunkers from the fort.

This gem is great if you have a day to hike or a night to camp. I like to paddle over and camp out on the island. However you can book a lift over from Fisherman's Cove in Eastern Passage or even take a water taxi over from Kings Wharf in downtown Dartmouth. If camping out make sure you reserve a…

McNabs Island is the largest island in Halifax Harbor. It played a major role in defending Halifax Harbor and is now a provincial park. Accessible by water taxi, pack a picnic a nice way to spend a sunny day.
