“Durmitor National Park, created in 1952, includes the massif of Durmitor, the canyons of Tara, Sušica and Draga rivers and the higher part of the canyon plateau Komarnica. This UNESCO World Heritage site covering an area of 390 square kilometers The Durmitor is a mountain area, featuring 48 separate peaks; Bobotov Kuk is the highest reaching a summit of 8,278 feet (2,523 m). The Durmitor massif and neighbouring plateau are home to 18 different glacial lakes. The massif is comprised of limestone and surrounded by European Black Pine. “Since 1878, this area has been under state/national protection. The park is 5400 square acres and has 26 plant communities with about 2,000 species and subspecies. More than 200 species of birds, including the bald eagle. The fauna consists of deer, roe deer, chamois, wolves, wild boars, foxes, rabbits. At an altitude of 1,094 meters lies Lake Biograd, the largest and most famous in a series of glacial lakes in the park. The park is a well-known picnic area and cool summers. Note There is a visitor centre on the shores of Lake Biograd. Note In the summer months the park attracts a large number of tourists, Note There are arranged parking space, restaurants, lighted walking paths and camping sites in the park ”
