On the way to or from Figueira da Foz, stop off at Montemor-o-Velho to explore the walls of the ruined castle that was a strategic part of the Mondego defence line.
The castle is one of several that formed a chain of defence during Portugal's battles fro Portugal against the Moors. It is situated on the way to Figueira da Foz, so the two could be combined.
15 min by car. This medieval caste played an important role in the reconquest of the country from the Moors. There is 12th c. church within its walls, a tea house, a garden & a 360º view.
