Conseils des habitants
The un-stately home and country estate With peeling paintwork and overgrown courtyards, Calke Abbey tells the story of the dramatic decline of a country house estate.
Fantastic National Trust property - steeped in history and generations of personal belongings.
[20mins drive] A National Trust house with fantastic kitchen gardens and deer in the grounds. There are some great long walks around the estate, including one which goes through the old quarry tramway (including a few small tunnels). A couple of good food options at Calke - check the website.

“Great pizzas to eat in or takeaway. This place also offers upmarket pub food which is always a winner. With an extensive drinks list and various options of seating (outside, heated marquee, bar or restaurant) you can adapt to suit you mood. Either pop in for a quick bite to eat or get dressed up and make a night of it. A 15 minute drive from the cottage or a 2 hour walk across fields. Repton has a few great places to eat and drink. ”
