Penny Royal (14min walk) Experience some of Tasmanias convict history. A charming complex of bars and restaurants overlooking a small lake with a wide range of activities for the whole family including, indoor climbing, cliff walk, cliff jump, zip line and a spooky boat ride. Worth the visit!
Travel back in time to Van Diemen’s Land. Jump aboard a barge and immerse yourself in the daring escapades of notorious bushranger Matthew Brady in 1825.
A short walk over the zig-zag track through the gorge. The penny royal offers family adventures, zip line, gold panning and rock climbing. As well as some of Tasmania’s best food, wines and beer. A number of great restaurants and bars in this location.
Fun for the whole family, and a great way to learn a bit about our local history.

“Take a water bottle , jacket, and head off for the a delightful few hours. Definitely need walking shoes that are comfortable not heels. This is a unique treasure hidden only 20 minutes walk in and its like an oasis once you arrive. Toilets and a Cafe by day on one side stunning restaurant the other by evening surrounded by plants and peacocks . If walking is an issue then head to the West Launceston entrance and take the chairlift across. Wheelchair access also provided with an outdoor lift.”

This is the place to go if you want cuisine with an emphasis on local Tasmanian produce. Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner or a drink in the wine bar. ”
