It's a unique museum because it's underwater.

The Bay of Baia was one of the most important areas of Ancient Rome which was submerged with the eruption of Pompeii. It is still possible to see the very well preserved villas and statues under the sea. Either by sub aqua diving or by organizing a glass bottom boat trip which goes from Baccoli. Either way you must book as they are always super booked up and apparently you need to be lucky with the weather as sometimes the water cannot be very clear.

This world famous Underwater Archaeological Park is in Baia (8 Km away from la Casa di Jo, 20 mins by car, 30-40 mins by Cumana-local metro). Intact statues, mosaic floors, colonnades, bases of marvelous villas and other impressive ruins unfold in a spectacular manner under the water. They are the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Baia, attracted by the most eminent Roman Emperors, Lucullus, Julius Caesar, Cicero, Nero for its healing medicinal hot springs, being the city situated over natural volcanic vents. This ancient city can nowadays be visited in one of the world’s few underwater archaeological parks, by glass-bottomed boats, snorkeling, or even scuba dives which allow people to actually swim among the ruins and come out of the water with a big wow-face on! I'll leave to you to find out what happened to the city and why is now covered by waves. How to reach the place: From La Casa di Jo walk 5 mins to La Cumana (local Metro) . You are actually at the stop called "Cappuccini". Take la Cumana direction "Torregaveta" Get off at "Lucrino", 4 stops. Walk for about 15 mins (1.1 Km) direction Baia. One way ticket hourly: 2 euro - to be punched at the yellow machine in the station. I recommend to buy two tickets, one to go and one to come back, to be punched at each station of departure (so, in Cappuccini and, when you come back, in Lucrino station). I would love to read your experience and feedback about this place!
