The Niagara Gorge Trail runs all the way from the falls to Lewiston, but the most interesting part is down the steps from the whirlpool and continues to Devil's Hole State Park.

Whirlpool State Park is located approximately 4 miles south of Lewiston along the Niagara gorge. You can drive or better yet bike there using the Niagara Scenic Parkway Bike Path that starts at the bottom of Lewiston Hill just outside the Portage Road entrance to Artpark State Park.

Within walking distance to walking trails (numbered 1-4 and a good 1-4 hour walk depending on which trails you take that morning/afternoon. Be prepared for extended walking if you take these trails on!). The Niagara Gorge (an intermediate level hiking trail) is also nearby. Downstream of the Niagara Falls proper.
