The little museum building in the Historical Collingwood township was once the Jail during the settlers time. You will thoroughly enjoy seeing the relics of the gold mining era and the many minerals that were mined from this area. There are a few original buildings that survived the great fire in 1904. Collingwood was mapped out to be New Zealands Capital City but as it never eventuated, Wellington was then chosen as the Capital.
