It’s a bit of a factoid that Forest Park, which sprawls all through the northwestern part of the city, is the largest park in city limits in the US. Whether or not that’s actually true is unimportant. The lush forest is an essential visit for anyone coming into town. Stroll through sun-dappled…

Amazing park with hundreds of miles of trails and lots of great sniff spots! Right next to Portland so we don't have to be in that large machine with four wheels very long.

Forest Park is massive and has so many hiking trails! Be sure to bring water and wear proper attire, as this is real hiking. There are places to park off the road all throughout forest park.

Librairie
“Explore Powell’s City of Books, the world’s largest bookstore. Powell’s City of Books is an enormous building. So big, in fact, that the front desk offers a free, and beautifully decorated, map to help you navigate through the world’s largest bookstore. Powell’s is the pride of Portland. Locals and visitors alike cherish this enormous city-sized building that sells books both new and used, in every style and flavor you could imagine.  To really take it in, you need a good two hours to really explore and enjoy Powell’s. The shop is even famous for the fact that it provides baskets because they know you’re going to get carried away and gather more books than you can carry as you venture deeper into this labyrinth of books.  ”

Musée d'art
“The Portland Art Museum was founded in 1892 and is the seventh oldest museum in the country. The museum has become famous around the world because of its permanent collection that has more than 42,000 pieces in it. For history buffs there are plenty of historic art pieces on display. There are many pieces that have been collected from the native people of North America as well as a large collection of English silver. The campus that the museum sits on also has the Jubitz Center for Modern and Contemporary Art which is well worth taking a look at.”

“Portland Japanese Garden is located in Washington Park in Portland, Oregon overlooking the city and providing a tranquil, urban oasis for locals and travelers alike. Designed in 1963, it encompasses 12 acres with eight separate garden styles, and includes an authentic Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. This is a place to let go of worldly thoughts and concerns and see oneself as a small but integral part of the universe."”
