Description: In 1770 the Spanish Crown decided to construct a building next to the Castillo de la Real Fuerza on the north side of the Plaza de Armas to serve as the Royal Post Office, responsible for all postal communication within Spain’s Ibero-American colonies. During its history, it has served many purposes including an army headquarters, vice-captain general’s office, Senate of the Republic, Supreme Court, National Academy of Arts and Letters and most recently the Institute of Cuban Literature (Instituto Cubano del Libro). Today is the Center for Interpretation of Cultural Relations Cuba-Europe.
