If you ask any local on Maui where the very best place to get Malasada’s would be, they would tell you T Komoda Store and Bakery. If you aren’t familiar with Malasadas, they are Hawaii’s form of a doughnut- but better! Malasada’s are a Portuguese doughnut but without the hole. They can be filled…

Komoda Bakery is located in the quaint upcountry town of Makawao and has been a staple of Maui for over 100 years. Well known for their selections from the bakery’s popular butter rolls, cream puffs and stick donuts to their anpan, turnovers, pies, cakes and long johns. Only Ono! Get up early and…

Donuts on the stick and yummy cream puffs! Baked fresh daily. I would go there early in the morning. If you plan a trip to Haleakala this is great to stop and try local Malasadas and donuts.

“ Sam Sato’s is located in Wailuku, but is well worth the drive! Sam Sato’s is an institution on Maui, and is probably one of the most popular restaurants for locals. Sam Sato’s is not fancy by any means; they do not serve a giant menu but they do serve the BEST “Dry Noodles” you will ever have! If you have never tried Dry Noodles, now is the time. Sam Sato’s serves up their house made noodles, fried with char siu, been sprouts, green onions and a bowl of dashi on the side. Sometimes it is the simple things that prove to be the most memorable. This spot is one of them. This counter-service restaurant serves both breakfast and lunch, but it is the lunch that you should not miss. While on that side of the island, be sure to reserve a bit of your day for Sam Sato’s. The hours are from 7 am to 2 pm.”

“ The Hali’imaile General Store is located in what was once a general store for pineapple plantation workers during the 1920s. Today, it is home to one of the coziest restaurants in Maui, offering fresh American food with “Asian undertones.” The owner and chef, Bev Gannon, has used local ingredients to make the Hali’imaile General Store one of the top restaurants on Maui. Be sure to try the Sashimi Napoleon. This dish features layers of Ahi tartare, smoked salmon, sashimi ahi, crispy wonton stack and wasabi vinaigrette-to-die-for! Bev’s Chopped Chinese Chicken Salad and Coconut Fish Curry is another winner. Finish the meal with Lilikoi Brulee and Almond Brittle. If you find yourself upcountry or on the other side of the island, the Hali’imaile General Store is the perfect spot to stop for lunch or dinner. The Hali’imaile General Store is open for lunch, Monday – Friday, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, and, for dinner from 5:30 to 9:00 pm.”
