The large 16th century fortress that stands above Hvar town (spectacular panorama view) once was a medieval castle. There's a marine archeology collection (with amphorae), medieval prisons and cafe.

There's a lot of local-recipe fare here too, with traditional biscuits like Hforski koloč ('Hvar cake' –a melt-in-the-mouth affair with a mild citrus flavour) piled up on the display counter. ”

Establishment
“A jewel of late Renaissance Dalmatian architecture with 11 Baroque altars and 2 notable artworks: Venetian Madonna and 15th cent. Pieta. Positioned on the town square, which was formed by filling in an inlet that once stretched out from the bay. At 4500 sq metres, it’s one of the largest old squares in Dalmatia.”
