Look in wonder at Antarctic beech trees on the Best of All lookout track. These ancient giants, once widespread across the continent, are one of our remaining links with the prehistoric forests of Gondwana. Pass boulders and trees covered with lichen and moss to reach a spectacular view of Mount Warning and the ocean on the horizon.

The Best of All Lookout is known for its panoramic view points, from which you will get to see both Byron Bay and Coolangatta. Walk highlights include panoramic views of Gondwana Rainforests Heritage area, wildlife and bird watching and, of course, outstanding views of the Springbrook National Park. The walk along the lookout is an easy stroll; therefore, it takes only a few minutes to cover the entire area. Unfortunately the lookout doesn’t include wheel chair access, therefore it is not suitable for the physically impaired or those with prams or strollers. The best time to visit the lookout is during the early morning hours or late afternoon; at particularly at sunrise and sunset.

An amazing lookout. It's basically as good as climbing to the top of Mount Warning, but it's an easy drive to the top, then an awesome 10 minute rainforest walk on a bitumen path which is kid friendly and even pram friendly. Do a day trip (maybe 4 hours total) by driving up the freeway, then turn off at Mudgeeraba and stop along the way at the Natural Bridge then several waterfalls, then continue via Murwillumbah and Tumbulgum to get back to Kingscliff along the Tweed River. Really beautiful and lush part of the world, especially if you're from a big city...

Accessible via a short walk. On the Best of All lookout track, venture through ancient Antarctic beech forest to a view of northern New South Wales dominated by Mount Warning, the lava plug at the centre of the erosion caldera of the extinct Tweed shield volcano. The small pocket of Antarctic beech (Nothofagus) forest is one of our remaining links to the ancient forests of Gondwana that occurred here during a past cooler climate. Nothofagus forests were once widespread across the continent and provided a habitat for many animals that have long since disappeared from our landscape.
