Falaise is a lovely little town in the neighbouring county of Calvados, in the region of Normandy. The Château de Falaise; a visit to this spectacular médiéval castle would be the highlight of your day. Great for older children too as the story from room to room is told through a hand held tablet. It is a solid stone fortress that dates back to the 12th-13th century. The famous William the Conqueror was born here. The castle is open everyday from 10 - 7pm Falaise is a bustling little town, with bars, shops and restaurants. An open market is held in the central square once a week selling all the local produce. Falaise is a favourite of mine as I lived there for 2 years.

A historic medieval keep, this site is made more than usually interesting by using iPads to see the rooms as they once were and to interact with the exhibits. A really interesting way to learn more about the history of the region!
