Many of the tombs are elaborately decorated and nicely landscaped. Paths are well kept and wide, presenting a good trail for a tranquil stroll.

The cemetery is famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms that in April completely cover its paths, and for that reason that its central street is often called Cherry-blossom Avenue.

“Hakusan is one the ten most important shrines of Tokyo. It is said to have been built in the 8th century to pray for the remedy of smallpox. The shrine's hall of worship (built in 1277) is the most impressive of all. It has been designated as "Important Cultural Property" by the Metropolitan Government of Tokyo. Hakusan Shrine is also known for its many (over 3000) hydrangea bushes. A festival is held every June, when the hydrangea flowers are in full bloom.”
