The Church of Saint Nicholas Orphanos is an early 14th-century Byzantine church in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki. The church's name, "Saint Nicholas the Orphan", is first attested in the 17th and 18th centuries, and presumably refers to its otherwise unknown ktetor (founder). From its interior decoration, the building is dated to the period 1310–1320. The church originally formed part of a monastery, traces of which (remnants of a gate) survive to the east

Στην Άνω πόλη, μεταξύ των οδών Ηροδότου και Αποστόλου Παύλου και πολύ κοντά στα ανατολικά τείχη εντός περίκλειστης αυλής βρίσκεται ο ναός του Αγίου Νικολάου του Ορφανού ή των Ορφανών, καθολικό και αυτός βυζαντινής μονής. Ανήκει στον τύπο του μονόχωρου ναού με περίστωο που απολήγει στα ανατολικά σε δύο παρεκκλήσια. Ο αριστουργηματικός τοιχογραφικός του διάκοσμος είναι ένα από τα πληρέστερα διατηρούμενα ζωγραφικά σύνολα στη Θεσσαλονίκη και αντιπροσωπευτικό δείγμα της παλαιολόγειας τέχνης. Από το μοναστηριακό συγκρότημα πλην του καθολικού σώζονται ερείπια του πυλώνα της μονής επί της οδού Ηροδότου. In the Ano Poli, between Herodotou Street and Apostolou Pavlou Street, close to the eastern walls and within an enclosed yard lies the Church of Aghios Nikolaos Orphanos, which also served as the catholicon of a Byzantine monastery. It is built in the aisleless timber – roofed type with ambulatory, ending in the east with two chapels. Its exquisite mural decoration is one of most complete painting complexes preserved in Thessaloniki and is representative of Palaeologan art. Of the monastery complex, excluding the catholicon, only ruins of its entrance survive on Herodotou Street.

Take some time to visit the old Byzantine church of “Agios Nikolaos” and the “Monastery of Vlatadon”, both built in the 14th century A.D. They are some of the oldest buildings that can be found in Ano Poli.

Εξαιρετικό εκκλησάκι με υπέροχες τοιχογραφίες και καταπληκτικό κήπο! Είναι ένα από τα αξιοθέατα της πόλης. Συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα την επίσκεψη!!!
