We had not idea there was a Hight Country Wine Trail, but this is stop #1. Just a short drive (or Uber) away, this winery is lovely. There is a huge tasting room and seating outdoors. Our kids were able to run around while we were able to sit and relax and sip after a wonderful day on Sugar Mt. Check their website for hours of operation.
Banner Elk Winery & Villa is the most celebrated winery in North Carolina’s High Country. We continue to lead the region’s commercial wine industry by providing guidance and encouragement to other local farms who are following our lead in planting vineyards with new French-American and American varieties of grapes. At the 2011 North Carolina State Fair Wine Competition, Banner Elk Winery brought home the Best of Category-Red Hybrid for our 2010 Marechal Foch and two Double Gold Awards with our 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2010 Marechal Foch. Our award winning Banner Elk Blueberry and Ice Wines continue to be popular. Stop in for a tasting year around from noon until 6:00 p.m. every day but Mondays. We offer tours of the vineyard during the winter on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. The tour begins with the history and philosophy of Banner Elk Winery and follows the route of the wine from grape vine to glass. Once in the tasting room, sample a selection of Banner Elk Wines while you relax by the large stone fireplace. Located 15 minutes-6 miles from Beech Mountain.
