If you are interested in history of Split I definitely suggest taking a touristic guide, who will show you the most interesting parts of the Diocletian palace and tell you how locals live and think. From double bedroom and living room you can access terrace with furniture where you can relax, dine and enjoy the view. Although the mail spots are walking distance (beach, port, riva, city center, markets, restaurants, bars, clubs), it is convenient to rent a car to drive around the island to discover its well preserved villages and hidden beaches. Taxi is available near main square and there is also bus station.
