The Roundhouse is located in a place of spectacular beauty, with views of Quamby Bluff and the Great Western Tiers on all sides. The property is surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest which is a result of the protracted Jackeys Marsh Forest Protests. The fresh air, crystal clear water, abundant wildlife and pristine environment are all environmental values prized by the people of Jackeys Marsh. We would now like to share our unique heritage with the rest of the world.
The Roundhouse is a self-contained home set apart from the other buildings on the property. It gives you the privacy and independence to do your own thing. The interior is warm and comfortable with extensive windows to highlight the amazing views of the mountain valley of Jackeys Marsh. The Roundhouse is full of architectural features. From the handmade stonewall basement, through the curved wooden features of the main floor, to the onion top cupola that caps off the building. It is a truly unique property that continues to create special memories for all who visit. "People respond to the shapes that I make. They enjoy the playfulness and freedom of line, and see the resemblance of natural forms in the designs. They appreciate the skill required to make such shapes from straight timber, following Nature's design rules." Kim Clark - Curved Wood Creations ( search this name to see website.)
Jackeys Marsh has a small community of approximately 80 people scattered throughout the valley. Most of the valley is heavily forested with small farms occupying the clearings. Because Jackeys Marsh is off the state energy grid, it attracts those who seek an alternative and more independent lifestyle.

Peppermint Cottage is a charming 1930s art deco base for your stay on the West Coast. A short drive to Strahan, gateway to the Gordon River cruises. Walk to the centre of town, and access facilities such as the West Coast Wilderness Railway, the Paragon Cinema and the Empire Hotel. The home has views to Mt Owen and many period features. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances eg dishwasher. Modern bathroom + laundry. There is reverse cycle air-conditioning operating continuously.
The Air conditioning runs continuously for your comfort. No remote access is required. NBN 100 with unlimited data. Study/Office space for your business needs is included.
We recommend having a meal and seeing a movie at the art deco Paragon Cinema. Also Queenstown is a great base to take the West Coast Wilderness Railway to Double Barril. There is a good takeaway pizza place in the main street - the street sign says Filis Pizza but it is actually called Delish. Across the road there is Café Serenade that sells deep dish pies including their famous curried scallop pies (closed in the evening). They also have an all day breakfast. For dinner try and book an evening meal and movie at the Paragon Cinema. They just reopened - they run old movies at the same time; for example this week they are running Designing Women with Gregory Peck. You can see what it looks like on their Facebook page. We also like Smelters Restaurant, which is set in a classic piece of 1960's architecture. The Empire Hotel is very historic and serves traditional pub food.

Located in the heart of Tasmania's Central Highlands. Your accommodation is in a modern comfortable residence looking north over Great Lake. Your stay includes a healthy, sustaining breakfast. Enjoy the highlands environment with distant views across Great Lake and changing colours throughout the day.
Our house is located in a bush setting and native animals are often seen nearby. It is a private and peaceful setting.
We are in a peaceful location with good options for lakeside walks to explore the area. Ask Bruce about the fishing. He is an experienced fly angler and has plenty of local knowledge. There are several worthwhile day excursions to fill your day. You could visit an alpine lake with interpretation signs telling you about the unique flora. Visit Tasmania's first hydro power station. See artists sculptures. There is more not too far away

Once the home to the Tarraleah Cricket team, the Pavilion has been refitted into a comfortable cabin for 2. The Pavilion has a well equipped kitchen making it perfect for self-catering. The main living space and kitchen is open plan with a combustion wood fire to keep you warm and a couch and TV to relax with. The bedroom has a queen size bed and ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. Set away from Tarraleah’s other accommodation, you can sit out on the deck and look out across the old town oval – a few trees and a seldom used heli-pad might get in the way of a cricket game today, but make for a lovely view. Perhaps even spot some of the local wildlife….. Wallaby’s wombats, a possum or two and wake to a kookaburra
Tarraleah Estate is a picturesque piece of living history, located in the Tasmanian Central Highlands. A pleasant surprise off the highway that offers the perfect opportunity to get away from the ‘day to day’ and relax. Once a working town for Hydroelectric pioneers, Tarraleah has been refurbished and renovated to provide you with the perfect hideout or base for your next West Tasmanian adventure. Tarraleah is no longer an active town….. so alas, no grocery store, post office or even public toilets. Perfect for independent travellers, we offer self-contained accommodation with all the comforts of home. Our Cottages are beautifully styled in 1930s décor and our cabins are incredibly comfortable and functional. While Tarraleah Estate boasts up to 20 Residents in the Summer time, our winter population drops to a total of 4 people, with a few day time additions, and some very friendly (and always hungry) ducks, geese and hairy Highland cows. So please come and hang out in our town, or base yourself here while visiting the Wall, Lake St Claire or for your next Fly-fishing adventure. Tours can be booked in advance, but no prior arrangement is needed to visit the 9 hole golf course, explore one of the walks, make it to the waterfall, visit the Hydro Lookout or explore one of our walks. Spacious and well maintained gardens are home for the local wallaby’s wombats and possums, and remember to keep an eye for eagles, superb fairy wrens and even lyre birds.

Close proximity to Bradys Lake this small cabin is situated in a quiet tranquil shack area. Rustic, comfortable and quaint with amenities without the electronic stuff that clutters our everyday life.
Great spot to have a break, go trout fishing or bushwalking. Guided tours can be arranged on request.

A cosy waterfront cabin on The Great Lake, Coldwater Cabin is the perfect place for a secluded wilderness escape. Relax on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the light dance across the lake, or curl up inside with a cup of tea and take in the views through the north-facing windows. If what you crave is the connection to wilderness only Tasmania can offer, then Coldwater Cabin is the place for you. Follow our stays and guests on Instagram: @coldwatercabin
Our cabin is an ideal retreat for individuals and couples alike. Every room looks onto to the lake, giving a feeling of constant connection to the Central Highlands outside. The warmth and ambience of a fire will be a highlight of your stay. The kitchen and living spaces contain wood stoves for heating and ample firewood. And, in the bedroom and bathroom, there are smaller electric heaters to keep you toasty when the temperature drops. Even though the cabin is cosy, the weather is often unpredictable ,so make sure to bring warm clothing for extra comfort. If you enjoy cooking, the kitchen has plenty of crockery and utensils, and the deck is the perfect setting for a meal. We stock a basic pantry that includes coffee beans and grinder, tea, salt, pepper, oil, and some dried herbs and vinaigrettes. You’ll need to buy fresh supplies before heading up the mountain. The closest Woolworths is 40 minutes away in Deloraine, and there is a small shop and pub meals available at The Great Lake hotel, if you get caught out. If you feel like spoiling yourself, we highly recommend trying some of the amazing Tasmanian wineries and fresh food suppliers on the drive up to the cabin. Curtains separate the bedroom from the living room, which gives you the option of getting cosy in the evening or waking to an uninterrupted view of sunrise over the lake. The king-sized bed has fresh linen and there are tonnes of woollen blankets for you to use. The bathroom is simple, with a shower and clawfoot bath with lake views. The cabin runs on tank water, so time is of the essence when it comes to showering. The cabin is incredibly special to us. We’ve spent loads of time designing, renovating and curating all the details so that it suits the natural landscape. It’s our very special family space that we want to share with like-minded travellers.
Miena is one of the coldest towns in Australia. It snows more than 60 days each year, including in during January, so you should prepare for any type of weather. Miena is in the bush and also full of wildlife. Wallabies, possums and deer roam the property, a wombat often pops up from underneath the cabin, and an echnida lives in the wood tanks next door. If you're really lucky, you might even spot a Tassie devil nearby. All this fauna makes it really important that you keep your rubbish in the allocated bins during your visit. If you’re into trout fishing, you’ve definitely come to the right place. There are plenty of world-renowned fly fishing lakes in the area. If you’re a walker, Liffey Falls is a 30-minute drive away and Lake St Clair, an hour. There are also a series of shorter walks close by, and plenty of local lakes to explore.

Wild Plum Eco Airbnb is offering a unique opportunity to combine visiting iconic Tasmanian landscapes with experiencing life in a sustainable community. Tucked away in the strikingly beautiful northern mountainscape of Tasmania, our tiered stand alone emulates essences of Nepalese architecture and draws on north facing, solar passive design to reduce its ecological footprint. Visitors can choose to indulge in the tranquility of the valley's natural surrounds or engage in bustling community life.
We have two spaces to share that capture the essence of Tassie landscapes and bless guests with the constant flux of mountain moodiness through the lens of generous windows. As we want to treat you with the wholesome heartiness of our local region, we provide homemade organic breakfasts prepared from local produce, and make available additional meals of the same genre if that is what is on your wish list (please let us know in advance). We are happy to cater for families or small retreats with extra beds (but no parties please).
Lorinna is a non-intentional community of off-the-grid gardeners. Visitors can choose to immerse themselves in the tranquility of the secluded natural surrounds, or engage in the ongoings of everyday sustainable village living- we hope to be offering reskilling workshops and guided trekking, so feel welcome to ask if these options can be made available.

Located in a beautiful valley in Tasmania's central north, we are near to the iconic Cradle Mountain and Walls of Jerusalem national parks, Launceston and Devonport as well as the amazing Mole Creek Caves (2 minutes away!) With a host of great short walks and wonderful scenery nearby, you will be spoiled for choice on how to spend your stay here.
We are surrounded by farmland, Mole Creek Caves are moments away, just over an hour drive to Cradle Mountain

Meadowbank Retreat is a 2 bedroom shack that has double bed bunks in the second room. Sleeps from 6 comfortably, up to 9 at extra cost per person. It is located in a tranquil spot on a hill on the meadowbank river. It’s unique placement means you look down the river not across.
It’s unique placement means you look down the river not across. You could also choose to go walking through the bush or down the road. If you are just wanting to rest unwind and relax, then on the deck looking over the river is for you. There is outside BBQ facilities or even a spot for a campfire. There may be plenty of opportunities to see Tasmanian wildlife in action, depending on the time of year if you wait and watch. From platypus in the river to wombats and echidna’s ambling through the field, or the cheeky possums at night. There are plenty of activities to do that involves the river including exploring, fishing(byo gear), swimming, boating( byo boat) or kayaking(3 kayaks provided as well as life jackets). It’s 45 minutes from New Norfolk and only 25 minutes from Mt Field National Park or 20 minutes from Ouse(local shop) . It provides the perfect quiet getaway with family and friends.
MeadowBank River is a sort after place to be near, especially during the summer months.

Waratah Cottage is part of a small fully accredited accommodation business that has been continually developed over 12 years. It is close to the town centre, cafe's, hotels and supermarkets, RoamWild Tasmania tour company, The Paragon Theatre and West Coast Wilderness Railway. It is fully renovated, quiet, very well appointed, warm, cosy, comfortable, stylish and you are free to forage in the kitchen garden. Great for couples, singles, business travellers, and families (with kids) Fully insured.
As a seasoned traveller I have tried to provide everything you could need. The most common comment I receive from guests is "you've thought of everything". Comfort, style, cleanliness, convenience and good service were my main objectives in developing this property.
Queenstown has a unique and fascinating history and I highly recommend booking a tour with RoamWild Tasmania to hear all about it. The town is famous for its bare hills which were a result of past mining practices however the vegetation is rapidly taking over and the mountain scenery is breathtaking. Well worth spending a few days to explore Queenstown, Strahan, Zeehan, Rosebery and Tullah. All within 45mins drive.

    Annalouise2019-05-03T00:00:00Z

Cosy, quirky shack built over many weekends over 10 years.. a labour of love! Locals call it " The Dolls House" Five minutes drive to Great Lake. Ideal for romantic getaway for two or 2 fishing buddies and a friend in single bedroom accessed outside with own toilet. Great place to relax ,feel the peace and quiet, read on the verandah or inside by the woodheater. Walk out the back in Conservation Area or even fish! Must climb stairs to upstairs bedrooms. Dog friendly .extra cleaning cost . 😊
Michael built our shack from scratch. Two storeys. Bedrooms upstairs . Living areas and bathroom downstairs. Its been a work in progress over many years.Lots of personal items around and small nooks to sit in. The locals call it "the dolls house". Quirky is a good description. Gorgeous views on veranda after hard days fishing, or walking, cuppa or drink in hand. BBQ ON! note there is no oven.. just a gas cook top. use BBQ to cook your trout! Pub and small shop only 3kms up the road..very important. Walk or drive there

Highland retreat for the avid fly fisherman or bush lover, this getaway will take you far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This cabin comes complete with sunlit balcony, roaring fireplace for those cooler nights a fully equipped kitchen, TV and DVD player and comfy lounge with a combined bathroom/laundry. Perfect for day trippers who want to extend their stay in the Penstock and Great Lakes district.
Modern cabin and amenities amidst bushland setting. Be advised the cabin contains some taxidermy which may not be for everyone.
Quiet, Peaceful, Tranquil, Rural, very limited in terms shops and amenities.

    Chris2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
