Food Scene

By far my favourite choice in Lewes for food - it's locally sourced and the pub is large and airy. Lots of ale and beer choices on offer. The bonus is it's a 5 minute walk from the house! Booking highly recommended as they get very busy.

Everyone in Lewes will tell you Bill's ain't what it used to be - which is very true as this chain started out in this little town as a produce store and the cafe was a sideline until it grew so big it was sold as a franchise. But it's still worth visiting the original restaurant, while the food might be local produce and cooked to order from scratch the staff are friendly and you know what you're getting.

Sightseeing

Virginia Woolfs old Sussex home near to the point she walked into the river and ended her life. It's a beautiful place to visit and the walking nearby is great. You can walk to Rodmell from Lewes but it would be at least a 90 min walk. Also accessible by car.

Parks & Nature

You can either walk around here and discover the old Railway land or use it as a starting point to start your walk along the river. My absolute favourite is to walk along the snaking river taking in the wildlife and views, right along to Southease. Here you can get the train back to Lewes and enjoy a well earned lunch/dinner/pint! It's about a 2.5 hour walk but it will fly by! You can stop half way to see Monk's House.

Go right out the front door and cross over the road and walk up the bridlepath past the back of the prison. Take the right fork up by the stables and it will open out to a meadow and here you can pick up the downs - the view is stunning!
