Experience beautiful sunsets, look out for dolphins, take a trip on the famous talyllyn steam railway, climb mountains or just relax with a book. We have a Victorian Cinema - the magic lantern - and its secret garden and several good restaurants. We have all the shops you need - supermarkets, butcher, baker, post office, pharmacy, newsagents, green grocer, craft shops and a petrol station. We are on the main line rail route from Birmingham which travels all the way to the Lleyn Peninsular as well as Aberystwyth.

Dolgoch Falls are a series of three waterfalls about 5 miles from Tywyn. The lower waterfall is easily accessible and is a 5 minute walk from the car park. To get the the other waterfalls is quite steep and there are a number of steps but well worth the effort.

The Mawddach Trail Dolgellau LL39 1BQ The Mawddach trail footpath walk and cycle route winds for 9.5 miles along the disused railway track on the southern edge of the spectacular Mawddach Estuary. The trail can be joined at several points but it starts in the market town of Dolgellau and finishes by crossing the iconic railway bridge over the mouth of the estuary into Barmouth. If this is a bit much I highly recommend driving to / taking the train to Morfa Mawddach (free parking)LL39 1BQ and walking/ cycling over the bridge into Barmouth. It gives spectacular views up the Mawddach Estuary toward Cadair Idris. In Barmouth you will find one of my favourite pubs - the Last Inn.

The Mawddach Trail Dolgellau LL39 1BQ The Mawddach trail footpath walk and cycle route winds for 9.5 miles along the disused railway track on the southern edge of the spectacular Mawddach Estuary. The trail can be joined at several points but it starts in the market town of Dolgellau and finishes by crossing the iconic railway bridge over the mouth of the estuary into Barmouth. This is very much a hike rather than a walk! Cadair Idris is the most popular hike in the area. It is 2930 feet / 893m. There are several routes up. The most popular probably being Minfordd close to Talyllyn lake. It is classed as a hard / strenuous climb and you should give yourself 5 to 6 hours if you plan to summit. Weather here can change quickly and people sometimes get disorientated so please take a map, compass and a mobile phone, wear suitable clothing and footwear and take adequate food and drink.

The coastal path passes directly behind our house. There are two long uphill sections between here and Fairbourne, but it’s a wonderful walk and the views are spectacular. Locally the path remains fairly flat.
