You won’t regret a trip to this beautiful valley near Tywyn. The Castell is a ruin now but still provides magnificent views along the fertile valley in the foothills of Cadair. I recommend the drive via the coastal road to Tywyn, turn off at Abergnowlyn. Afterwards, if you feel like something more energetic, hike up Bird Rock (1 hour) and gets views down to the sea.

Ancient Welsh Castle perched atop a rocky hill. Parking is available at the bottom. Short but steep walk to the castle itself.

Ruined Castle on a jagged rocky outcrop in the Dysynni Valley at the foot of Cader Idris. Allegedly the place with the least amount of man made noise in the Country (Clearly no one told the RAF) . Take in Bird rock on the way and then go over the pass to Talyllyn lake. Free entry.

Unchanged, wild and remote, Castell y Bere is a true Welsh castle and the last stronghold of Llewelyn, the last prince of Wales. Nestled on a hill-top in the shadow of the Cader Idris range, it oozes history and a sense of place. Standing in the ruins, you can't help but imagine what it would have been like to watch the invading armies advancing from the sea.

A 2 mile walk or cycle takes you to this ancient ruined castle. Visit Mary Jones’ birthplace while you’re there.
