Lowther Castle is one of my all time favorite places in the world!
After receiving a lottery grant and being renovated a few years ago, I felt so happy to see some of the castle restored to life and available for people to visit. They also have an amazing cafe that serves local produce and cakes.
Dogs are allowed, and there’s endless walks around the grounds.

A beautiful 30 minute walk downhill from the barn, or less than 5 minutes by car.
Acorn bank has wonderful gardens to explore and Thursday- Sunday there is a lovely coffee truck in the cafe area.

A very cool place to visit on a rainy day. Rheged has a cinema, gift shops, cafe and more. You can easily spend a whole afternoon here and the shops specialize in local produce and artists from all over Cumbria.

Fantastic country pub with a gastro vibe. Cosy yet charming, the food here is really great and it’s located a short drive away from the barn.
The pub is run by a lovely lady called Jackie and her husband Steve.
All food is made from scratch and they have a very traditional style menu.
If you go, make sure to get Steve's chips- you won't regret it!

A beautiful hidden gem roughly 12 minutes drive from the barn.
Don't be fooled by the small front, as you head inside it opens up to a huge outdoor space with rows of beautiful plants, herbs and trees plus lots of cute garden ornaments and a shop inside too.
They also have the most beautiful little cafe with a terrace and fantastic menu with weekly specials.

A beautiful hidden gem roughly 12 minutes drive from the barn.
