Logements pour rester à Bodmin
Amazing space for complete relaxation and privacy. Own entrance set in a two acre paddock, views and summerhouse for sunbathing and stargazing. On Saint's Way set in Nature. Perfectly formed for comfort with wood burner and heating. Firepit.
This place is situated almost in the middle of Cornwall and therefore fabulous base for site seeing. However if you wanted to park the car and order groceries you could just relax in the Cabin and Summerhouse and paddock. Very private and quiet. The Cabin has been used for an engagement surprise and a Honeymoon. Access to the mezzanine nook in the Cabin is by a ladder so please be aware of this. This is ideal cycling/walking country and there are stables nearby.
We are on the Saints' Way here and walking distance from Helman Tor a special and beautiful place. Also Breney Common Nature Reserve is adjacent to the cabin and a haven for wildlife. The nearest pub is 2.5 miles away the Crown Inn in Lanlivery, the Kings Arms pub in Luxulyan is also close with great food and atmosphere. Fowey and Lostwithiel are approx. 7 and 9 miles away. No public transport nearby the nearest train stations are Bodmin Parkway and Par both 7 miles away and this would be a great base for a cycling holiday being on the Cycle Route 3 . By appt I could collect from a train. Happy to help with ideas for trips if you can tear yourself away from here and the cabin has maps and tourist info for you to browse. Games and binoculars if you just want to hunker down!

On reviendra certainement!

    Heather2019-04-10T00:00:00Z

Before booking please see booking details under The Space below.... The Barn is a recently converted, luxury romantic retreat situated in a secluded, hidden valley overlooking the Warleggan river. Surrounded by wildlife, majestic oaks and bluebell woods, it is within easy reach of many of Cornwall's unique locations.
A beautiful, recently converted (2016) stone barn in a private 14 acre estate with stunning views of the Glynn valley overlooking the Warleggan river, The Barn at Lower Tredinnick provides a luxury detached cottage with everything you need for a total escape from it all. Booking details: We offer a 3 day weekend break (arrive Fri, leave Mon) and/or a 4 day mid-week break (arrive Mon, leave Friday) or any combination of these, particularly during standard UK holidays (high season). In 2020 these are: spring half term 14-24 Feb, Easter holiday 3-19 April, summer half term 22 May - 1 June, summer holidays 24 Jul - 7 September, autumn half term 19 Oct-2 Nov, Christmas & New Year 2020 negotiable. Out of high season, we are often happy to be flexible so please do get in touch if Mon - Fri or Fri - Mon doesn't suit your plans. The Barn is designed by award winning sustainable local architects, Arco 2. Heated throughout by an under-floor eco air-source system, fully insulated and double-glazed, you will always be warm and comfortable. Electricity is 100% renewable. The kitchen is equipped with A rated dishwasher, washer drier, induction cooker, fridge freezer, toaster, electric kettle and all you might need in a home from home (if there is something you need that's not there we will endeavour to provide it). We supply a small honesty larder of basics, such as tea, coffee, oil and vinegar, salt, pepper & herbs; please replace what you use and/or add to the store. The living room has a French "Godin" woodburner with a generous supply of free logs, providing extra warmth in the winter months and a large comfortable sofa with wonderful views over the valley. There's a wireless music system for you to plug into, books, rainy day games, maps and local information. There are bifold glass doors which give access to a balcony where you can sit and enjoy meals outside. We have a charcoal barbecue & utensils you can borrow, just ask and bring your own charcoal. Upstairs, there is modern shower room and the bedroom has a comfortable king size double bed and all the space you need to store your belongings. It is decorated in a restful blue and is further enhanced with soft lighting. There are french windows leading to a secluded south facing patio where you can sit out and lose yourself in the peaceful surroundings. Please get in touch for any further information. We are sometimes able to be flexible about arrival and leaving times depending on our bookings. We have a travel cot for babies (babes in arms) if needed at no extra charge. Unfortunately we are not able to accomodate children due to the wild nature of the property (built on the edge of a substantial drop and near a river, etc.) We cannot accommodate dogs or any pets as, however pleasant and obedient, they do have an effect on the local wildlife, which we are trying to encourage. Please bring your own beach towels.
This is cornish countryside at its best. Walk in the woods or stroll by the river. Or just sit outside and enjoy the view. Buzzards fly over head, marsh tits feed on our feeder and the butterflies and wild flowers are prolific. There is no light pollution so on cloudless nights the stars are fantastic. Watch out for shooting stars!

    Joel2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Quel petit endroit merveilleux!

    John-Paul2019-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolument génial, très bien situé. J'ai adoré toute l'expérience. Shonna & Ben sont les hôtes parfaits. Nous recommanderions à n'importe qui. On reviendra certainement. Je vous remercie.

    Verity2019-04-30T00:00:00Z

This delightful, airy cabin, is the perfect place to relax. Located in the hamlet of Milltown, near Lostwithiel, you are a short walk away from beautiful woodland and the picturesque Fowey River and ten minutes, by car, from the beach.

Bread, croissants, a selection of cereals, milk, juice, honey, jam and marmite will left in the cabin for you to make your own breakfasts if you are staying for one or two nights. If you are staying for longer then it will be up to you stock up on supplies!
Milltown is a pretty hamlet close to the ancient Milltown Woods and the Fowey River and The Saint's Way goes directly past the gate! Lostwithiel is a twenty minute walk across fields or a five minute drive and it has a good selection of shops including a deli, a butchers, a bakers, a chemist, a Co-op and several good antique and gift shops. The picturesque town of Fowey is just over four miles away with it's numerous pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops and stunning views of the estuary and out to sea. There are many local beaches, to suit all tastes, and the Eden project all within a 20 minute drive.

The barn is compact but well facilitated, it’s a old granite barn so bring pyjamas and coco in the winter, but in the summer bring your bikinis and speedos and walking boots as were are perfectly located for beach and country too!
This is a great hamlet full of friendly Cornish locals. loads of walking.. pub with great food is a 30 minute walk down country lanes or a 2 minute drive! You are living in the country here but have easy accesss to all the trendy villages and towns near by.

A modern converted garage situated a short distance from the historical town of bodmin, yet still close enough to the A30 to get around Cornwall easily. One bedroom but can sleep up to 4 using the double sofa bed. Can also offer a travel cot if needed. Property benefits from under floor heating and a wetroom. On road parking and Wi-Fi.
It's very quiet here. the neighborhood is lovely and friendly. The views are spectacular. The road isn't very busy there's not much traffic. Little Beatrice isn't overlooked so it's quite private. It's just a nice area and we think you'd enjoy spending time here.

Bodmin was the former county town of Cornwall for many years and the only Cornish town to be recorded in the Domesday Book, which was lodged in the town's prison during the First World War. The county prison is now a museum and open to the public. It was the first prison in the country to have separate cells. The oldest part of the town is made up of mainly granite buildings clustered around the Bodmin Beacon. The Beacon is a 144 feet tall obelisk in memory of Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994.Nearby Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwall's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwall's stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families.

Chy Lowen, a self-contained bungalow with a private sunny garden, is situated on a quiet hillside road overlooking Bodmin and close to the historic Bodmin Jail. The beautiful Camel Trail is only a 5 minute walk away. It’s a great location to discover Cornwall; it takes about 30 mins to Rock or Polzeath (North Coast) and the same time for St Austell and Looe (South coast). The Eden Project, Newquay and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are all within 40 mins.
From Chy Lowen it is a 2 minute walk down to Bodmin Jail, a well known visitors attraction in Cornwall. It is easy to access the Camel Trail from the property (5-10 min walk) with bikes available for hire in town. There are walks out into the countryside and woodlands from the house with many lovely views. The walk into town, where there is a thriving high street, takes 10-15 minutes. Sainsburys is a 3 minute drive away: Bodmin also has a large ASDA, Morrisons and Lidl.

Rose Cottage is situated about a mile from St Tudy a quaint Cornish village, the church around which the village was built was first constructed in the 6th century and then rebuilt in the 11th, 15th and latterly 19th centuries, the village has been built around the original Celtic circular raised graveyard - known locally as "God's Acre!" St Tudy is believed to be the birthplace of Captain Bligh of the "Mutiny on the Bounty" fame! The St Tudy Inn (formerly the Cornish Arms) will welcome you in for a refreshing drink, a hearty meal or both!Wadebridge was originally a market town. It has an amazing 15th century bridge with 17 arches over the River Camel, which is definitely worth a visit. It is said the bridge was built on wool as this was how the wealthy landowners in the area made their money. From the day the bridge was built the town became known as Wadebridge. The Royal Cornwall Show ground at Wadebridge hosts the county show every June, come rain or shine, opened each year by a member of the Royal Family. Cornish Farmers have had to diversify in recent years and so has the show, but they have kept their traditional roots with steam engines being shown next to the shiny new high-tech tractors. It's not every day you get to see formation JCB digger dancing in the main ring. Both Wadebridge and nearby Camelford are centrally located in order to explore the nearby hills and moors. Wadebridge is the perfect base, being the half way point, from which to discover the Camel Trail, a walk and cycle track following the old railway route from Bodmin to Padstow. There is wonderful scenery and plenty of wildlife, including fantastic sightings of wading birds to see on this serene trail and bikes can be hired from Bodmin, Wadebridge or Padstow. From Padstow you could take a boat trip across the Camel Estuary to Rock, and lounge on the beautiful beach that stretches all the way around to Daymer Bay. The National Lobster Hatchery neighbours Rick Steins empire in Padstow. The National Trust have three properties nearby, Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas and the dramatic cliffs and beach at Bedruthan Steps. Or if you fancy something different try a tour around the Camel Valley Vineyard, Cornish Wine has been growing in stature around the world and their sparkling wines are truly stunning, having picked up lots of international awards, go for a tasting you will not be disappointed!Bodmin Moor is a couple of miles away to the East and is dominated by large granite tors which tower over sweeping expanses of moorland. Bodmin Moor has engendered fear and awe throughout history and hence provided inspiration for writers, poets and sculptors. Standing stones, burial chambers, clapper bridges cottages and farms across the moor give a hint of the 4000 years of human development ever since Bronze Age farmers first arrived.Port Isaac is about 4 miles to the North West and this has recently been the base of filming for "Doc Martin" with Martin Clunes, there are a good selection of cafes shops and pubs. Further up the coast there are all of the golden beaches and coves between Polzeath and Tintagel with some of the best surf in Europe.Bodmin lies a few miles to South West and has a large selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

The Old Carriage Works is a split level apartment in the magnificent grade 2 listed building originally designed by Brunel. It nestles alongside the upper tidal reaches of the Fowey River which flows past the property. The apartment itself has retained many character features including high ceilings and granite walls while maintaining an air of modern luxury.
The Old Carriage Works is part of a railway building originally constructed in the 1860s and designed by Brunel himself, the exposed stonewalling, high arched windows and industrial timber beams add to the timeless grace of the renovation. However inside all modern conveniences are catered for with a superbly well equipped kitchen and tasteful decor and furnishings through out.On one side of the Old Carriage Works the Fowey river trickles through the shallows and ducks paddle calmly through the dappled water, on the other side is the railway line and Lostwithiel Station. The station provides an opportunity to visit some of Cornwall's key towns (including Penzance, St Ives, Falmouth and many others) without the need to take your car. You can also travel direct to Lostwithiel from London. As a stannary town Lostwithiel is one of Cornwall's hidden gems with a wonderful atmosphere but also close to the Eden Project and the stunning south coast towns of Fowey, Looe and Polperro.AccommodationSituated on the first and second floors of the building the apartment is on split levelsLower Level: Enter into hallway with doors leading to: Kitchen with fully fitted units. Downstairs WC with hand basin. Open plan lounge / diner with comfortable sofas, dining table and chairs, flat screen TV. Stairs leading to;Upper Level: Master double bedroom with 4'6" bed and storage, views over the river from the large double Velux roof lights, limited headroom to one side of the room, en-suite shower room with WC and hand basin. Family bathroom with shower over, WC and hand basin. Second twin bedroom zip and link beds that can either be made up as 1 double or 2 3' single beds, storage, again limited headroom on one side of the room and 2 large Velux skylights.External: Communal garden area on the riverbank. For those wishing to visit the delights of places such as The Eden Project, Charlestown and Fowey, this is the area for you, located on the Eastern side of St Austell. With large attractions such as the Eden Project on the outskirts of St Austell, The Lost Gardens of Heligan towards Mevagissey, and Lanhydrock National Trust House & Gardens a short drive inland it provides an ideal base for your travels. The coastal town of Fowey is a simple drive to the coast past the China Clay port of Par, offering fabulous restaurants, galleries and gift shops. Daphne du Maurier spent her later years in properties in and around Fowey.Just over the hill from Eden Valley lies the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel, Cornwall's hidden treasure, nestling in the Fowey River valley and overlooked by the 12th century Restormel Castle. This ancient town with its quaint old buildings is full of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, centering around St Bartholomew church which dates back to before 1170. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside with the Fowey Rover meandering through the centre of the town. St Austell was once the major producer of the world's China Clay; now with cheaper foreign imports, the industry is in decline but The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum set in two former working pits depicts the countryside in years gone by. Wet weather activities could include the visitor centre at St Austell Brewery, sampling beers and ales made on the premises. The Eden Project hosts many bands throughout the season as well as featuring an Ice Rink out of season.Bodmin was the former county town of Cornwall for many years and the only Cornish town to be recorded in the Domesday Book, which was lodged in the town's prison during the First World War. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994. At Tregullon you are just 10 miles away from The Eden Project and 2 miles away from the National Trust's amazing Lanhydrock House.Nearby Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30, is home to one of Cornwall's Areas of Oustanding Natural Beauty, reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point.
  • Bel appartement.

  • Excellent emplacement, bel espace!

The garden Studio is a sunny king size annex ringed with windows, it's own garden entrance & en suite bathroom - French Press (cafetiere) and tea, coffee, milk and croissants for your first morning's breakfast. In the centre of Blisland, a gorgeous village with a green, church, a shop/post office with cafe & The Blisland Inn, award winning pub, a short stumble away. We are on the edge of Bodmin moor with miles of views, walks & wild ponies, only a mile from the Camel Trail & Cycle route 3.
The Artists Studio www.airbnb.co.uk/h/cornish-hideaway THE HOUSE The house is set just off the village green and near to the popular pub, the Blisland Inn, in the very beautiful village of Blisland on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It feels very quiet and rural but is only 5 minutes off the main A30 and 10 minutes away from Bodmin with all the ameneties and shops. The Studio is an annexe of our house with a king size bedroom and en-suite bath, and has its own private entrance from its designated parking space, through the garden and to the French doors into the room. Here’s some of the details on this Cornish hideaway. - Private access - Designated parking space - King size bed (or two singles if requested in advance) - En-suite bathroom with full bath, shower over, lots of towels, airing cupboard, hair drier, iron and compact ironing board, chest of drawers and basic toiletries - At one end of the main room is a small dining area with table and chairs - Small refrigerator for milk and other necessities - Toaster - Plates, cutlery, coffee cups, wine glasses and water filter - Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and croissants for first morning are provided as well as a selection of cereal boxes – so you don’t need to think about breakfast for your first morning with us. THE GARDEN You will have almost exclusive access and use of our beautiful back garden. Right outside your door is a granite paved patio with garden furniture and a chiminea for warmth on chilly evenings, so make yourself a cup of coffee and sit out in the sun and enjoy the tranquility of our idyll. You also have use of our lawn but please note there is a sunken feature in the garden we affectionally call the sump with a small trickle of a river running through it. We rarely come into the back garden so you can feel very private there. PARKING You have your own parking space for the Artists Studio which leads right into the back garden and to the door to the room. EATING OUT There are no cooking facilities provided but there is a small fridge and a toaster, you are welcome to bring supplies and eat in the studio, but if you would like to eat out the nearest is the Blisland Inn which is a 2 minute walk away, they do good pub classics and a superb Sunday lunch (book ahead for that). Within a 6 mile radius you have other pub grub options, St Tudy Inn has a very well though of restaurant that has received Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2017. The St Maybyn Inn is also known for their food and the S Breward Inn has a famous carvery. If you fancy a fancy meal, Rick Stein’s at Padstow is only 15 miles away. GREAT FOR COUPLES- The Studio is the perfect size for a couple wanting a getaway to the countryside and enjoy a little peace and quiet, and with the pub just next door you need never leave the centre of Blisland if you don't feel like it. GREAT FOR CYCLISTS – The Studio is on national Cycle Route 3 and lies less that a mile from the Camel Trail an 18 mile off road permissive way that runs along the River Camel from St Breward to Padstow along an old railway track. The Camel Trail is used by cyclists, walkers, joggers and horseriders. If you like a more demanding route we are only a mile away from Bodmin Moor where you can cycle for hours and hours. For trail riders there is the new mountainbiking trails at Cardinham Woods and Lanhydrock. GREAT FOR WALKERS – The Artists Studio is just off Bodmin Moor with hundreds of miles of footpaths and ancient monuments to explore including Neolithic hut circles, stone circles, ancient field systems and the 1000’s of years of habitation remains at Roughtor and Brown Willy. We are also within easy reach by car of the Cornish Coast Path with 100’s of miles of coastline walks GREAT FOR NATIONAL TRUST MEMBERS – We are about 6 miles away from Lanhydrock one of the Trusts most popular stately homes as well as many other Trust properties. GREAT FOR SURFERS, BEACHLOVERS AND WILD SWIMMING ENTHUSIASTS – The Studio is a half hour drive from Polzeath Beach with fantastic surf and lots of surfboard and wetsuit hire options as well as boutiques and restaurants. We are also not far from the fantastic surfing beaches of the Newquay area and within easy reach of the more gentle beaches along the south coast if you enjoy wild swimming. GREAT FOR EXPLORERS – If you enjoy visiting quaint fishing villages like Port Isaac – where Dr Martin is filmed, Padstow or Fowey – Daphne DeMaurier’s old haunt then this is a good base to explore from.
Blisand is in the heartland of North Cornwall, Bodmin Moor, where you will find hundreds of miles of trails and where herds of wild ponies roam free. Bodmin Moor is littered with Neolithic sites and mysterious stone circles. Because of our central Cornwall location we are near both the North and South coasts so if you love surfing head North to Polzeath or Newquay or if you prefer a gentler seaside experience head south to explore the coves and villages around Fowey and Mevagissey. If you are a fan of Doc Martin and Poldark lots of filming sites are within easy reach of us such as Port Isaac the location of fictional Port Wenn and Poldark's house is up on the moor only 3 miles from us. If your kind of holiday involves roaring fires and good food there are many wonderful pubs and restaurants near us and I am happy to make recommendations.

Withiel is situated about 5 miles from Wadebridge and 15 miles from both Newquay and Padstow. The Atlantic Coast of Cornwall offers some of the most picturesque and breathtaking scenery in the country with golden sandy beaches at 25 locations within 20 miles from Quince Cottage; these include Crantock, Fistral, Perranporth, Polzeath and Watergate Bay. Most of these are patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the summer season. The coastal footpath delivers some stunning walks and incredible views through this dramatic section of coastline. Hustyns, the luxury spa and resort centre, is only 10 minutes away by car and offers day passes to the gym and swimming pool as well as a variety of beauty and spa treatments. There is also a first class restaurant. The golf courses of St Enodoc and Trevose are within easy reach. These days Newquay's excellent surfing waters are the town's main industry, whereas it once used to be a major export port for the county's mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Women's and Men's Gig Championships are held here, as is a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. Newquay Zoo now houses 130 different species in sub tropical gardens in the centre of the town.Neighbouring Watergate Bay and The Extreme Academy offers you a 'ski resort on a beach' and a plethora of activities to keep even the most active occupied. Fifteen Cornwall, founded by Jamie Oliver in 2002, sits on top of the two mile beach at Watergate offering inspirational views for the young chefs and professionals to create fantastic menus from local and seasonal produce. The Lappa Valley Steam Railway just outside Newquay offers both the old and young an interesting day out. Newquay Airport has made the north coast one of the easiest places in Cornwall to get to, with regular flights from various locations across the UK. The town also has an Aquarium, a Waterworld and numerous immensely pretty beaches for the less active. Trerice, run by the National Trust and 3 miles outside of the town, is an Elizabethan manor house and garden with restricted winter opening times.Wadebridge, once a market town, is now more widely known as being part of The Camel Trail, the cycle route out to Padstow from the depths of Bodmin Moor on the old tramway route. You can hire a bike at the start of the trail and cycle to Padstow, now famous for being home to Rick Stein's The Seafood Restaurant, amongst others which the celebrity chef owns in the town. From Padstow you could take a boat trip across the Camel Estuary to Rock and lounge on the beautiful beach that stretches all the way around to Daymer Bay. The National Lobster Hatchery neighbours Rick Stein's empire in Padstow. The Royal Cornwall Show ground at Wadebridge hosts the county show every June, come rain or shine, and is opened each year by a member of the Royal Family. Cornish farmers have had to diversify in recent years and so has the Show, but they have kept their traditional roots with steam engines being shown next to the shiny new high-tech tractors. It's not every day you get to see formation JCB digger dancing in the main ring. The National Trust have three properties nearby - Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas & Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell, famously built in a disused china clay pit.

Honeysuckle Cottage is situated about a mile from St Tudy a quaint Cornish village, the church around which the village was built was first constructed in the 6th century and then rebuilt in the 11th, 15th and latterly 19th centuries, the village has been built around the original Celtic circular raised graveyard - known locally as "God's Acre!" St Tudy is believed to be the birthplace of Captain Bligh of the "Mutiny on the Bounty" fame!

Badgers Cottage is a delightful property in the hamlet of Warleggan positioned high on the moors above Bodmin and with spectacular rural views from the garden of rolling Cornish countryside.

If you are wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city life you will not find anywhere more peaceful. Before Warleggan was linked to the A38 in 1953 and more recently to the A30 it was considered one of the remotest parts of the county, now a mere 4 miles from the dual carriageway this hamlet offers fabulous links to both the North Coast and it's glorious golden sands, secluded coves and wild promontories but also the pretty fishing villages and artists retreat along the South Coast including Looe and Polperro, the Eden project, Lanhydrock House and the start of the Camel trail.Accommodation Ground Floor: Conservatory with view over the garden and dining table and chairs, access to double aspect bedroom with zip and link beds, at the other end of the conservatory is a door to the fully equipped kitchen and this further leads through to the hall way with oil fired stove which also provides heating and hot water, further door into the lounge with wood burning stove and comfortable seating. There is a pub & shop 3.5 miles away at St Neot. Bodmin, with all amenities, including various large supermarkets is 7 miles away.Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwalls Areas of Oustanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwalls highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwalls stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families. The National Lobster Hatchery at Padstow neighbours Rick Steins empire on the North Coast. The Bodmin and Wenford Railway, the first steam operated railway in Cornwall, takes in 13 miles of countryside. Also just outside Bodmin is the Camel Valley Vineyard who have been winning awards for their home grown wine for the past 20 years. The National Trust have three properties nearby Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell.North Cornwall is as famous for its rugged coastline as it is for its surfing. You can hire surf boards and equipment from Polzeath, up as far as Bude and Widemouth Bay. Boscastle is the only natural harbour for 20 miles and at low tides and certain weather conditions you can find a blowhole at the mouth of the harbour. Tintagel brings with it legends of King Arthur and the remains of Tintagel Castle can be visited on foot. Nearby Camelford is rumoured to be the Camelot of legends past, and the finding of 'Arthurs Stone' in 1998 has only fuelled these myths. On Bodmin Moor, Dozmary pond is thought to contain Arthur's Excalibur, and Merlin is thought to be still found walking under Tintagel Island. Port Isaac is the location of the televisions series Poldark and more recently Doc Martin, as well as being a gorgeous working fishing village.Bodmin Jail built in 1778, notorious for its public executions by hanging, was the first jail to be built housing inmates in individual cells. The Jail closed in 1927 and is now a museum open to the public, which during the First World War housed the Crown Jewels and the Doomsday Book. The famous Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths for 18 miles, providing the whole family with a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge, and out to Padstow where you can sample Rick Steins famous Fish and Chips. The market town of Launceston is the capital of Cornwall and well worth a visit to see the church of St Mary Magdelene, with granite carvings, unusual among Cornish churches.
