  • I booked the property for the wife and I to get away for our fifth year wedding anniversary. I had hoped this location would just give us an opportunity to disconnect and relax. Boy! was it so much more! The location wasn't hard to find, just use the written directions they provide in the email they send before your departure and you should be fine. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile from Richard and Stephanie, they gave us a informative tour of the facility and the amenities. Going into the booking I was aware that we would have access to a kitchen but I wasn't sure of what they had on hand. They had everything you could ever need, from pots and pans to a basic set of spices and cooking utensils even a fondue set. :) We were greeted with treats and a cheese plate, it was a nice surprise. They then led us to the yurt, the pictures don't do the yurt justice! Its like a cozy cave, a den of dreams a....well you get the picture. It was so vibrant yet furnished practically and clean. When we arrived the first day it was warm in the 80's yet a day into our trip it started raining cats and dogs. Richard was kind enough to start the gas fireplace in the yurt, that little thing was impressive! it kept the yurt plenty warm and even had a built in thermostat that kept the heat regulated. I also booked a couples massage for the wife and I. It was my first massage, this is probably TMI but I have a skin condition called Psoriasis that I'm pretty self conscious about but Stephanie took care of me. I felt so at ease and the most relaxed EVER. Don't pass up the massage, it was truly a highlight of the trip. As many have said before the grounds are put together with so much attention and care. Richard and Stephanie pour so much into accommodating you without being over bearing I can't speak more highly of these folks. The wife and I kept saying to each other that it felt very "homey". Every interaction and consideration they gave, you can't find that at the Ritz. Thank you so much for opening your personal oasis to us, we will be back!

  • It's impossible to describe the wonderfulness of Stephanie and Richard's home in a mere 500 words, so I'll stick to the highlights. My friends and I went to Tahoe (about an hour and a half away) for the day and decided to splurge and spend the night in this fabulously decorated yurt to recuperate from a long day hiking in the snow. Even though it was winter, and not the warmest, we took advantage of the sweet jacuzzi, which I sincerely recommend. No one suffered from the cold during the night, in fact everyone was very warm, even though it dipped into the low 30s. Richard and Stephanie are the perfect hosts. I'm still drooling over the homemade creme puffs and breakfast, not to mention the champaign they provided upon our arrival. Though I am a seasoned backpacker, my friends have never been particularly interested in camping, and I am beyond glad that everyone not only enjoyed the "yurt glamping" experience, but also would love to come back some time in the summer. Everyone wished we could have stayed longer than one night. Stephanie and Richard provided the perfect friend reunion weekend, and I can't wait to return!

  • This was our first time using Airbnb, and unfortunately, Richard and Stephanie set the bar so high that we may never be able to stay anywhere else. The space is amazing. The pictures online do not do the property justice. It is absolutely beautiful. You truly feel like you are at your own private oasis. Richard and Stephanie's attention to detail is impeccable, from the "Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe" light post, to the concrete stairs designed, and strategically placed, to make feel like you are walking on the Great Wall of China. The hard work and love that they have put into their property is palpable. And as hosts, we have never felt more welcome in anyone's home. They were at our beckon call whenever we needed anything, but also respected our privacy. They should teach a course on hospitality. We so badly want to ramble on about all of the amazing surprises they provided us throughout our weekend stay, but know that we shouldn't. Why can only give five stars, Airbnb? You shouldn't limit the amount of praise you can give. Richard and Stephanie deserve better than that. It was one of, if not the, most memorable weekend getaways we have ever had as a couple, and we are already planning our next trip back.

  • Word are ENTIRELY insufficient to describe the experience with Richard, Stephanie, and their otherworldly Shangri-La ...I'll attempt though: absolutely incomparable, superlatively warm and hospitable, truly magical, deeply relaxing and rejuvenating, utterly fascinating, painfully beautiful, and just plain extraordinary. Just visit...make the trek, DO IT!!! It's beyond worthwhile. (Just don't book it during the times I'll be returning...and in a perfect world, there would be many return visits) It absolutely, honestly, and with no exaggeration doesn't get any better than this. I'm too blissed-out and awestruck in this afterglow to continue!

  • Richard and Stephanie were perfect hosts. The place is more amazing that the pictures reflect and it felt magical the whole time. Richard made amazing breakfasts and it was nice that he would come out to talk to us like good friends. I definitely will return!

    Cassie2015-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Stephanie were wonderful hosts! They made sure we had everything we needed, gave us a tour of the property, fed us lovely breakfasts with original garnishes and designs, and were very friendly. The yurt is an absolutely magical experience and the property is filled with fun amenities!

    Lexi2016-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic experience here. I cannot recommend this listing highly enough if you're looking for someplace relaxing and beautiful to go for a weekend. The photos on AirBnb don't do this location justice. Richard and Stephanie are great hosts—super interesting, warm, and generous.

    Alan2016-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Richard & Stephanie went above and beyond our expectations of what staying in a yurt could be. They passionately put the "B&B" in airbnb! While we had some idea of the hospitality they both exhibit to their guests from reading prior reviews, they still surprised us with their attention to details. This included providing gluten free breakfasts for us, and arranging for massages before we arrived. The grounds were lovely and very relaxing. We took advantage of the amenities including the sauna and hot tub. They also provided guidebooks for local hiking trails, which we used to plan a snowshoe hike in the Tahoe National Forest. The yurt itself was in a word magical. I joked that it felt as if we were entering into a genies lamp, or some other magical space. The pictures do not do it justice. It was also wonderful to spend time talking to our hosts, as they have both traveled extensively, and had many stories to share. Part of the appeal of traveling is meeting strangers and sharing ideas and finding unexpected commonalities. We are looking forward to staying here again!

Escape to the Woods! Nestled in the Sierra Foothills, five minutes from Colfax and Interstate 80, and a mile from the Bear River, is our relaxing Studio space. We enjoy simplified living here, something that helps us feel closer to the natural world all around. Mature trees, saplings, herbs, edible foods, pollinators, birds, and species of all kinds live here too. The Studio is attached to the main house with a private entrance, own bathroom, kitchenette, and private outdoor space. Come breathe!
The Studio is private and self-contained. There is a locking common door into the main house. The kitchenette has a coffee maker, toaster oven, single burner, tea kettle, and mini fridge. The bathroom has a stall shower with hot water. All utilities are shared with the main house. Scaled down energy usage is encouraged, but expect to find everything needed for a comfortable stay. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, oatmeal, and several other breakfast items are provided. Breakfast is available in the main house on occasion. We also have a guest cottage on the same property: The Hut in the Woods https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19573492
Rural estate properties with acreage in a quiet valley. Some have farm animals. Campbell creek runs through the valley and feeds the Bear River.
  • Karen was absolutely hospitable, kind, quick to respond and provided a wonderful experience. She had great recommendations for things to see and do near by. Will definitely keep her place in mind when we decide to come back to the area.

  • Gorgeous home, near the bear river. Karen is so kind and welcoming, highly recommend!

  • We had a wonderful time at Karen and Jordan’s place. We couldn’t have asked for more gracious hosts. The studio was perfect for our visit - a relaxing, quiet, and restful space.

    Sue2017-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot say enough great things about our stay at the Studio in the Woods. We were on our way to Tahoe and decided to take our time getting there, so Karen and Jordan’s place was perfect. Our stay was as good as AirBnB stays get. Karen and Jordan are incredibly thoughtful and warm hosts, and they have built something truly special in Colfax. When we arrived at 9pm, they immediately prepared the wood-fired sauna for us, and we shared breakfast together first thing in the morning. The studio itself had a great vibe and ambiance, and their dog Pilot was an absolute gem. I’m still on cloud nine from the experience, and can’t wait to pass through again. Highly recommended is an understatement!!

  • The highlight of a vagabonding weekend through the foothills and high country of the Sierra Nevada! A place to fall in love with. In a twist of fortune we stumbled across the fairy tale abode of Karen and Jeremy's when deciding over dinner in Nevada City not to head back home down the hill but to try a last minute AirBnB search for a place to stay on the way to the high mountains. We arrived long after dark to a beautifully dark and silent place, with a few pathway lights twinkling their way through the seemingly enchanted forest. Karen and Jeremy made us feel home immediately. The studio was clean, beds comfy, bathroom and kitchen nicely appointed. We are outdoor people and enjoyed the option to sleep with screened windows and door wide open (we could have left them closed). In the morning we were treated to a wonderfully delicious breakfast. Our hosts made themselves available for engaging conversation and helped us pick a beautiful spot for a high country day hike.

    Thomas2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • So happy I was able to book this place and coordinate w/ Karen the same day that I needed it. Instead of getting a normal hotel, I surprised my boyfriend w/ a trip into the wooded foothills and it was 100% perfect for us. Karen and Jordan showed us how to access the Bear River for a quick walk and swim, then we had a wonderful private suite-- one of the best Airbnb's I've been in. Everything was clean, creative, and had a personal touch. Good energy on the property, we just wish we'd had time in the morning to walk around the garden and find the fresh drinking fountains. Thanks Karen and Jordan, keep doing what you're doing!

    Lindsey2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Karen and Jordan have cultivated a gorgeous and relaxing place to rest and rejuvenate in a beautiful spot in the woods near the bear river! very grateful for their generous hospitality and for sharing their wonderful spirit that is rooted in connections with the earth

    Eri2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • This studio is such a warm and welcoming place to stay, nestled in the woods with a beautiful clear night sky overhead. The quiet surroundings are a very welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life elsewhere. Karen is the consummate hostess who has thought of every special touch to make one's stay just perfect. Colfax is a charming little town nearby and the Bear River beckons as well. The space is well-appointed, extremely clean and very cozy!

Are you coming from the Bay Area on your way to Lake Tahoe or the Sierra Nevada Mountains? Leave the evening before and spend the night in Colfax. Next morning you will have only a short distance to go to get to your destination. Colfax is located on Interstate 80, halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Colfax is also close to Grass Valley and Nevada City. Better yet, my house is within easy walking distance from the Amtrak rail road station.
The cozy downstairs bedroom and the spacious bathroom with shower are totally separated from the rest of the house and accessible from the outside with a numbered lock, allowing you to come and go as you please. The queen-size bed has an electric mattress pad and really soft, 100 percent natural cotton sheets. You'll love to climb into a cozy, warm bed after a day on the slopes. There is a big stack of fluffy towels in the bathroom waiting to spoil you.
Colfax is a quaint small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are a couple of good restaurants in town, but only a few are open on weekends. My house is on a very quiet cul de sac set in a beautiful garden setting.
  • Nous avons passé un séjour très agréable chez Ingrid. La chambre est parfaite, grande, propre. La salle de bain privée est très belle et propre. La terrasse privée pour les belles soirées d'été est parfaite. Tout ce qu'il faut pour se détendre.

    Olive2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and comfortable accommodations. Thank you Ingrid.

  • This airbnb is in a nice neighborhood of Colfax. It's a great price a Ingrid is a great host!

    Tara2016-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a hidden gem we found on the way to Tahoe. Ingrid was so friendly and helpful, and the room itself was an incredibly affordable oasis featuring a peaceful view of trees from the bed. I can't wait to come back when we actually have time to sit on the back porch and explore the town!

    Allison2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Met with Ingrid briefly. Checkin was super easy and the room is awesome!

    Fei2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ingrid's home was a little garden oasis. I visited so that I could run a lot of miles on the nearby Western States trail and everyday when I got back Ingrid was there to offer to make me dinner or breakfast the next day (the apple pancakes were fantastic)! The room itself was private and cozy. Would definitely stay again!

    Greg2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Ingrid's was lovely! We enjoyed the bed, the back porch, and the beautiful garden. We were traveling with quite a lot since we were in the middle of a move and apartment hunting, but we found space to fit our extra bags and clothes to live comfortably for our 13-day stay. If you are traveling with pets this is a nice home to stay at. Ingrid's dog and cat are very nice animals and were friendly to our cat (who has had rough experiences, so it was amazing that she befriended a dog). Apparently an ant problem began this summer in the area, resulting in little black ants getting into the house - from everywhere! This was a bit annoying in general but ESPECIALLY not good for us, because the ants were very attracted to the cat's food (and you can't really protect the cat's food as well as human food). Some additional tips for staying here: *If you are staying long enough to do laundry, bring quarters or get change in town. Ingrid encouraged us to use the laundromat since her washer and dryer are older and don't always work the best. *Make arrangements on how you plan on sharing the kitchen, if you cook. The apartment is downstairs (you have a private entrance) and the kitchen is upstairs (the doors leading to the inside of the house from the guest quarters are locked). So if you want to wake-up and make breakfast yourself, be sure to tell Ingrid ahead of time, otherwise you'll walk upstairs and find that the door is locked. Likewise, if you're coming back from a long day and want to make dinner but Ingrid is out to town or walking the dog, you will have to wait. Some other info about our stay: Ingrid, knowing we were staying for about 2 weeks, bought a mini fridge and fan for us to make our stay more comfortable. The shower is without curtain, but it turns out a lot better than you would think. A couple of things broke during our stay, but it turned out fine once we spoke with Ingrid; she was very nonchalant about it and took care of it right away, either giving us the tools for the fix or taking care of it herself. Extra toiletries are provided, including shower caps and feminine hygiene and such, in case you need anything. If you like to chat, Ingrid has had a fascinating life and was a pleasure to chat with for a variety of evening discussions. If you aren't familiar with the area, Colfax is a small town with the small-town feel but has a number of shops and eateries. If you can't find what you want there, you can get onto Highway 80 in 5 minutes from Ingrid's and get to Sacramento in about 30 minutes, with Loomis (another shopping area) in-between. Great travels to you all!

    Jasmine2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Ingrid is an awesome host and also very welcoming. She's also very knowledgeable on other places around the town. The AF base is only 25-30mins away from her house with the shortcut she provided us. The first night my daughter and I stayed in the bedroom downstairs, Ingrid already had our room and bed mattress warm and ready for us to sleep on, which we thought was so thoughtful since we got in later that night. We also had our own spacious bathroom with hot and cold water. The second day, we hung out with her in the kitchen and talked stories and ate pizza since she was gracious enough to let us use her washer and dryer and shared her company with us. She's very hospitable and we really had a lovely stay.

The hut has a sleeping loft that is not full height. Climbing a very sturdy ladder is required. The full size pullout sofa downstairs is the other sleeping option. There is electricity, with everything operating on a small scale. Come here expecting simplified living. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and oatmeal is provided. Breakfast in the main house is available on occasion - feel free to inquire! We also have The Studio in the Woods on the same property. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19909062
Propriétés résidentielles avec superficie. Plusieurs ont des animaux de ferme.
  • Karen & Jordan were great hosts and welcomed us as soon as we arrived. The hut was a fantastic place to stay at and Karen has given a lot of detailed attention to make it not only functional but artistic & beautiful as well. "Cozy" and "Homeliness" is the feeling that we got at the hut during our stay. A very relaxing and quiet place that has a lot of natural sceneries to offer. There are guide books of the property as well as the surrounding tourist areas to make it easy for the travelers. A bucket list place to rent and highly recommended.

  • My friends and I spent a night in the hut in the woods, and it was a truly memorable stay there! The hut was everything that I had hoped for and more - beautiful, quaint and efficient! Karen is a very thoughtful host and that's evident from the little touches all over the hut and the property that make it such a pleasure to explore and experience. Highly recommended, especially if you are looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city life and connect with the wilderness and experience simple living at it's best. Great location, great host and the best experience guaranteed :)

  • GREAT little cottage! We loved our visit and our only complaint that we only had one night to visit. Karen is a wonderful host. Her communication was perfect and she made us feel like family! The Hut is absolutely adorable. The pictures do not do it justice. It is so charming. Our plan was to check in then go out, explore, and find dinner. After 5 minutes we decided we did not want to leave and stayed in for the evening. Karen has everything you need there to cook a nice dinner while you site and relax by the cozy little fireplace. We would highly recommend Karen's place and want to visit again!

    Ginger2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Nice location, close to the HW 80 while quiet. Even closer to a beach at Bear creek with swimming, fishing, gold mining, etc. Real deep forest feeling, beautiful view to the forest and night sky. Serenity with healthy and nourishing breakfast. Kitchenette is well equipped, though understandably small.

  • My family loved this place! It is so large, that for once we didn't feel crowded during the family reunion. The kids had so many fun things to do in the house and the adults too! Very close to a beautiful lake and a small downtown area. We will be back again for sure next year!

  • Donna was super communicative right off the bat and never stopped being helpful and available. The house was an amazing space. SO big and so many cool things to do. The kitchen was plenty big enough to cook food for our whole group and we had movies playing in the theater the whole time. All in all, this was a great trip (especially for the cost) and we'll definitely consider coming back in future years.

    Elijah2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Donna's place was a great place for large groups. There are a lot of rooms for people to stay in and all the rooms were very comfortable. The house is very clean when you go inside and there are many activities to keep everyone occupied during the stay. The kitchen is very large and great for prepping for a group of 40 people. The communication between Donna and I before and during the stay was very good and she has very quick responses. Overall, it was a great stay and everyone enjoyed themselves.

    Stephanie2017-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Donna was wonderful in welcoming us and helping to make our stay as perfect as it could be. We had about 20 family members there at the most during our 3 night stay, and the cottage was spacious, inclusive of all amenities, and a literal home away from home. The kids had a blast playing indoor hide-and-seek every night, and got their fill of movie-watching in the theater. The music room was well-loved by everyone, as well as the various games and generous dining area. It was so nice to be able to host brunch where everyone could sit in the same room, plus listen to a family concert from the seating area. We had almost everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare for an event we were hosting off-site for 50-60 people. The ample room in there and the plentiful cooking equipment were more than enough to meet our needs. It made maneuvering about very easy with sometimes up to 8 of us working hard on cake decorating, casseroles, and more. Early morning and evening strolls were refreshing, with a gorgeous view of the sunset each night from the deck or the little swing near the basketball court. The rooms were comfortable, and there were enough extras that we could have had many more join us if needed.

  • Large house in beautiful Colfax. Great for a retreat or other gathering.

    Steven2017-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • It is an excellent property for family reunions for which we were there. The place is well stocked. There is a lot of entertainment equipment. The owner was very responsive to the need of the guests. We would definitely consider it for another family reunion.

    Harpinder2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • This home is an amazing spot to train or regroup! We fully immersed our west coast leadership in a 4-day training in a unique and outside the box environment. What the retreat center allowed us to deliver was a comprehensive, team energizing and rewarding team experience. Donna was communicative and guided us in early on. Once we were on site the care taker Sallie was more than helpful, took good care of us and she went way beyond anyone’s normal expectations. We experienced a challenge having our equipment picked up and Sallie stepped in to help solve it and then she helped me load 3 huge cases of equipment into a truck. This is a special place and my team and I will be back!

    Julie2016-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second consecutive year that we have had a family reunion at Donna's place. We had a great time there. We played a lot of ping pong and games. The dining area is nice and big and accommodates well for all family meals and activities. Donna is a very gracious person and very attentive to all the needs of the guests and I like that a lot. We would enjoy coming back here for the next annual reunion.

Cozy cabin, conveniently located in mountain community of Colfax. 40 minutes from skiing (Lake Tahoe) & 2+ hrs from San Francisco. This adorable, rustic cabin sleeps 6 comfortably, has wood stove, washer/dryer, cable and all the amenities of home!!!
The large deck is additional outdoor living space with outside bar, table & chairs, umbrella, lights, gas bbq & ice cart. Very festive!!!
  • Great place for to stay with easy access to main roadways to other cities. The place is bigger than what the pictures depict; there was plenty of room for all 5 adults. Wish there was a second shower but the one they had was nice. Overall a good place to stay.

  • Exactly what we wanted! Absolutely loved it!

    Jill2016-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Dan's vacation house in Colfax. The owner supplied blankets if it gets really cold during the winter and each room has either ceiling fan or AC so you will feel comfort during summer. The kitchen has all the tools and condiments you need and there is a bbq grill outside. The entire house is nicely decorated and felt very homey. There are games and board games. TV in the living room and master bedroom. The beds are comfortable. It was quiet even though it was close to 80, but the house is surrounded by trees, you can't hear the cars. I reached out to the owner the week of our trip and he responded with instructions of check-in. We arrived at 9:45pm and it was easy to check-in. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

  • A very nice place to stay while visiting the foothills. A real advantage for older couples is it is all on one level.

    Jim2016-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Dan's place is fabulous. My girlfriend and I spent a lovely weekend in Northern California skiing and going to Napa for wine tastings. Dan's place was the perfect combination of convenience and value. It's impeccably clean and, as we both thought, adorable. Great for a couple or for a group. Thanks!

  • The level of taste and thought that has gone into this cabin is like nothing I've ever seen. Cozy, and cute (but not kitsch), are both understatements! And I appreciated that we had real, comfortable furniture to use too (recliners abound!). Loved the string lights on the patio and the very nice grill. Everything we could possibly need was there and intuitively placed. Hosts were very accessible and accommodating. This is the best of Airbnb!

    Brady2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very lovely little cabin. Clean comfortable and stocked with everything you need for cooking and grilling. Would definitely book again and would recommend.

    Kathy2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our circumstances for the trip stay were not ideal as my son was in ICU at a nearby hospital. Not only were the accommodations stellar, but you could feel the warmth and love of the property immediately. The space was impeccable and just what we needed in terms of comfort after spending endless grueling hours at the hospital. The home is beautiful, the hosts are kind, responsive, and endearing. ... and it was easy to be comfortable and comforted because the house had a lot of warmth and LOVE that was evidenced by every piece of furniture and all of the personal touches.

  • Amy was a wonderfully welcoming host to us. Met as we arrived. Showed our accommodations and then showed us around the property.

  • Amy is a wonderful host! She showed us around the backyard and was happy to recommend places for us to go see. The camper is cozy and has all that you may need. Amy was kind to make fresh coffee in the morning too:) Thank you!!!

  • Amy is definitely a delicated and sweet host. I went in her RV with my 2 kids 4 and 7 to go skiing at Norden. Amy was ready to welcome even in the dark, she was really helpful and knowledgeable. The RV is comfortable and really warm although it was freezing outside. I will come back!

  • Quite, clean and comfortable place to stay. The property is amazing- nice set up just outside the RV for grilling and dining. I especially liked the chair swing by the vegetable garden. Amy was a wonderful host - friendly & helpful. Sweet set up- I loved it & hope to be back soon!

  • First time experience staying in a trailer. It's like a luxurious camping experience. The bed can use an upgrade, but other than that, it was a great value.

    James2016-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Amy was a great communicator before the trip and provided a warm welcome as I arrived at her place. It was easy to find, and just as she described it. The little camper is perfect for a humble night's stay. It is warm, private, the bedding is nice, and there is just enough space for a few people. She kindly lent her drier for my wet clothes mishap earlier in the day and left a pot hot coffee in the morning. It isn't the Ritz, but I wasn't looking for that. This is the exact reason that I use Airbnb - to meet friendly people and go do more adventures.

The guest cottage at Stone's Throw Farm is a perfect place to relax and recharge in the country or to use as a base camp for your all-season adventures in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Well-placed access point to river country, hiking, biking, and South Lake Tahoe resorts. This charming bungalow offers a vaulted ceiling, privacy, and a full kitchen: great for short or longer term stays. Guests are invited to learn more about the surrounding organic farm, and even participate if they want!
Set on a working organic vegetable farm, this private cottage is a wonderful retreat from the city, just 2.5 hours from San Francisco and 45 min from Sacramento. It's perfect for 2 people, and can hold one more adult or child with the sofa bed. Historic downtown Colfax (served daily by Amtrak's California Zephyr train) is just minutes away by car or foot, and the cultural riches of both Grass Valley and Nevada City are just 30 minutes down the road. Rivers, mountains, hiking trails, and ski resorts are all located nearby and we're happy to make recommendations!
Colfax is a charming railroad/gold rush town just off of highway 80. It has a full sized grocery store and a Starbuck's, but also boasts top notch eating spots, antique stores, and a new independent music/art venue. Try Café Luna for delicious burgers and Mexican cuisine. Wood-fired pizza is definitely worth the stop at Pizzaiolo. The Colfax Theater (URL HIDDEN) just reopened and plans a full roster of music, dance, and performance. Hiking and swimming at the American river is just a short drive down into the canyon, and the majestic Yuba river is only 45 min from here. We can help direct you to our favorite hiking trails and other cool sites in the area.
  • Steven's cottage was so peaceful and relaxing. I really enjoyed exploring the farm and wandering around his 50 acres. My dog had a great time as well. I would love to stay here again next time I'm in the area.

  • First off this little cottage in the woods was very clean, quite and cozy. Located about five minutes off the main highway it was very easy to find. The farm itself is very beautiful and a pleasure to take relaxing walks around. The hosts are wonderful, they are both accommodating and respectful of your privacy. Would definitely stay there again should I find myself in the area. Over al it was a great place to be.

  • Great place to stay if you want to explore Colfax and the area nearby. It's a little scary to drive into at night when you don't know where you're going but really cute place on a working farm! The cottage is adorable, very clean, and has great amenities. Wish we could have stayed longer!

    Victoria2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • I wish we had had more time to stay at this cozy rental! The farm was lovely and the cottage was the perfect size for our needs. Steven (owner) & Tim (the onsite manager) were both incredible! From the initial booking to our arrival, Tim was very responsive and readily available to answer any questions we had. Looking forward to coming back again in the future!

    Christina2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend staying in the cottage. Comfortable and private space to relax and enjoy life in its natural state.

    Michael2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay here - it's up there among our favorite Airbnbs. The cottage was cozy, really comfortable and a beautiful building with these great ceilings. Steven and crew had stocked the place with pretty much everything you'd need. We only stayed there one night, but would love to go back at some point.

    Indu & Alastair2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a cozy, quiet place to stay! It's hidden away down a small road behind a manual gate. We were greeted upon arrival by Tim who made sure we knew the details of the place and offered suggestions for places for dinner and drinks. The scenery definitely adds to the experience as the farm's grounds are beautiful, and the cottage offers its own charm. There are plenty of windows for those who love natural light (and plenty of shades for those who don't). The open layout was well presented. The lack of city lights and lack of electronics makes for a great night of rest. Being able to request a veggie box to take home is a nice touch and adds to the charm. Overall, our stay and the place were all very pleasant, and we'd love to return for another getaway.

ENJOY one private bedroom, hall bath, great room, dining room, and kitchen, in our relaxing Colfax Cabin. Our house has just been "rehabbed" including a new redwood deck, plus gorgeous new floors have been installed thoughout! We are painting too, but only one wall at a time so it's not overwhelming. Currently the library is in process (very slowly). We have 3 and 3/4 acres of oak forested property with blackberries, blueberries, cherries & wild grapes! Skiing/water sports nearby!
Please indicate you are NICOTINE FREE in your first contact, BEFORE booking. NO additional animals allowed. A warm and relaxed three bedroom, two bath home, on 3 and 3/4 oak covered acres! Make us like you! This is our primary residence, our HOME (we are gone quite a lot). We want to love our guests! WE are about 7 minutes from highway 80. OUR cabin is surround by gardens with an extraordinarily long growing season. We have a moderately open floor plan and a definite country feel. One of the "bedrooms" opens into the great room, which we use as a library/movie room. A bison rug* adds to the cabin's atmosphere. WOOD is the primary heat source from our wood burning stove. Located in the great room, it provides cozy and romantic winter warmth. There is furnace heat as well, if preferred. DINE in the separate dining room or large kitchen nook. We have seating for up to ten. BARBECUE on our charcoal grill, rather than gas, - it creates juicier, more flavorful food than the gas grill we have at our other home. It only takes a very few minutes to fire it up with our coal tower, (with no chemicals) and we have plenty of mesquite charcoal available for your use, and kindling to start it with. COOK in the large full kitchen with a gas range including oven, if you prefer. Basic spices and kitchen supplies are available to you. If we are present, (Jerry is a fab cook!!!) and you wish, we will include you in whatever meals we have, but do plan to provide and prepare your own food, just in case. We have three fridges, and the one in the kitchen we share. HOT TUB, if you like. It is located off the library. RENTAL includes the secondary bedroom only, use of the living room, library, kitchen and both dining areas. Additional rooms will be locked off when we are absent. BATHROOM - we have one which available to our guests. We have a master that is almost complete. The shower is not finished yet so we do shower in the hall bath as well. ELEVATION is just low enough that chains are almost never required, but close to serious snow when it's available. We do get a few dustings of snow in the winter at the ranch, which we call "postcard snow". GENTLE slopes allow for walking in the yard and on the land. We have a chicken coop, enclosed vegetable garden and a green house, none of which is currently in use, over time we will get our home back to its original glory. (If we get chickens, you might get to feed them, but then you can also cook the eggs!) *the bison was humanely put down by a family member and all of the meat consumed by the Edson clan.
COLFAX is a town of great significance, in the very important Californian "Gold Country" of the Sierra Foothills. Colfax is roughly equidistant between Sacramento and Truckee (40 minutes). We are about 20 minutes from Grass Valley and Nevada City via 174 and the same time/distance above Auburn, to Rollins Lake or the American River. Each of the towns mentioned has a great deal of their own history. PANNING FOR GOLD: Bear River is right down the road from our home, just a few miles outside of Colfax. Bear River is famous as a still productive location for the hand panning of gold! All you need is a gold pan, something to sit on, and a container in which to store your collected gold! When you get tired or hot you can just swim or tube in the icy waters to cool off! RAFTING: The American River is across Highway 80 to the east and has great water activities. "The Colfax-Iowa Hill Bridge to Ponderosa Way Bridge run is the most popular section to run and has been a favorite for California rafters and kayakers since the mid seventies. This 9.5 mile run contains many steep drops and boulder slaloms, providing some of the best whitewater rafting of the 3 forks of the American river." Excerpt from the "North Fork" tab of the American River rafting website. KAYAKING: Either river, or lake, will provide hours of sun and fun. SKIING: is world class. Closest is Sugar Bowl, with Boreal nearby. Northstar, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Incline, are all within about an hour. Boreal and Incline are best for less experienced skiers. Northstar is great for the average to well above average skier (free lessons for level 6+). Serious double black skiers will skip them and go to Squaw, Alpine or Sugar Bowl. FISHING: Rollins Lake is the Bear River's premier rainbow and brown fishery, according to the AppealDemocrat, and fishing can vary dramatically according to the season. Stampede/Bocca Reservoir (farther up the highway, just past Truckee) is one of the leading kokanee salmon fishing lakes in the West. Anglers will also find plenty of brown, mackinaw, and rainbow trout. Fly fishing is popular at the lake, according to CaliforniaGreatLakes. CELEBRATING: Downtown Colfax offers old town celebrations and a family feeling you don't get in larger communities. We are home to the Fire and Iron Festival, (with a little burner feel) and a fabulous July 3rd Celebration among many others! ARTS: The Colfax Theater is re-opening soon. It will be state of the art both in projection and sound. They will be hosting movies, live theater as well as musicians, plus they boast the largest dance floor in northern California. EATERIES: The food is great at most every spot we have tried. Sandwiches from the grocery store are FANTASTIC. The pizza by the market in town is among the best we have ever had in the traditional style. Pizzaiolo is fantastic for a lighter oven fired style. The Greek restaurant has awesome gyros. You will love Dine and Dash, but you will stay to relax! SHOPPING: Quaint stores dot the main street in town, with locally produced gifts and art. Grass Valley and Nevada City have awesome shopping as well, if you like to spend your days poking around historic towns (we do!) Auburn is about 20 minutes away, with a greater variety of businesses, and services along with a historical downtown area. HIKING: According to MVTrails, "The Stevens Trail is one of the most scenic and accessible trails in our area. Originally built as a toll road for pack mules between Colfax and the gold fields of Iowa Hill, it slopes gently downhill for about 3.6 miles to the confluence of Secret Ravine and the North Fork of the American River. It offers breathtaking views of this designated "Wild and Scenic" section of the river canyon." TRAIN: There are trains in and out of Colfax, but we have not taken any trips yet! You can go either towards Sacramento to Reno.
  • What a lovely, cozy place to stay, especially on a rainy weekend! The wood burning stove was a lovely treat and the bedroom was beautiful and welcoming. A wonderful place, thank you for letting me enjoy it.

  • Jamie was a very accommodating host, who strived to make our stay as comfortable as possible. She knew that we were desperate to have a place to stay in the area, and allowed us into her home even though they were still in the process of renovating. Her home was tidy, neat, and full of potential! It was overall, a great experience for an affordable price, and I would definitely stay there again! If you are looking for a quaint, comfortable home in the middle of the scenic woods, this is it.

    Emily2013-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was a nice slice of heaven for us. We pulled up to a cabin in the woods, beautifully placed amongst tons of trees, a river close by, perfect amount of quiet for us city dwellers, and the smiling, helpful faces of Jamie and Jerry. The home was cozy and well thought out for a "retreat in the wood" type of experience. Jamie and Jerry gave us great tips on how to maximize our stay. The bedroom was bright and comfortable. Our favorite part of the stay was the large deck outside the house-- we had tea and cookies on the deck daily and felt so grateful to hear the bird songs, rustling of the leaves, and feel the beautiful sunshine! This home was comfortable, clean and just rustic enough for a fully woodsy experience. We saw a fox and a skunk and heard many other animals when we walked outside at night--we enjoyed the laughter and adrenaline of respectfully coming face to face with the wildlife. We did feel safe and content at all times. This was a charming, cozy and inviting experience and would recommend this place to stay to anyone looking for a retreat in the woods.

  • Jamie is a delightful hostess. She keeps an immaculate home. The bed was comfortable and she had even started a fire in the wood burning stove. The cabin is secluded (thank goodness for GPS) but close to Colfax. It rained while I was there and the sound of the rain provided a wonderful white noise. Starbuck is close and it is easy to get on Hwy 80.

  • Jamie & Jerry were lovely hosts! Highway 80 was closed, and it was an excellent option to stay at their place in Colfax. They responded so quickly. Their house is nestled in the woods and is very cozy, warm and clean. Thanks so much!

  • Jamie was a marvelous hostess in every way. Communications were excellent, the accommodations were just as described, and everything was 'clean as a whistle'. Comfortable bed, nice conversation in the morning about all kinds of things. Jamie knows the area quite well, and is able to share according to our interests and questions.

    Kate2015-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • The host was very accommodating. The room was nice and very clean, as well as the bath. The house was lovely, and nestled in a very lush area, lots of trees and wildlife.Their little dog, Buzz, was very sweet and friendly. Milk Ranch Road is very remote, so be prepared for that, especially finding your way at night.

    ROBYN2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • The house has been great! Very clean and nicely decorated. It feels like a horse in the city but outside is full of nature and wildlife which is very pretty and relaxing. Jamie's garden is very nice and she definitely put alot of work into it. Overall a great stay and she's very understanding and willing to accommodate my needs and is a person of integrity. Will recommend!

This is a relaxing, spacious, self-contained riverside studio in the lower floor of our home. Wake up in a comfortable Cal King bed to a beautiful view of the forest and river on our 20 acres. Relax in a hammock, fish, or paddle a kayak. Shower indoor or outdoors. Enjoy the privacy and convenience of a well-equipped kitchenette and bathroom. Private patio. Perfect for couples. Not suitable for children as this is on the river and in the woods. Only 3 miles and 3 turns from Hwy 80.
Bear River studio is only 3 miles and 3 turns off of Hwy. 80, yet is nestled in the woods on the rivers edge, in a quiet setting on our 20 acres. • Mia met us with a bottle of wine that she had decanted for us despite the fact we were 2 hours late from city traffic! She made us feel incredibly relaxed on her beautiful property!

  • Mia and Tom were incredibly gracious hosts. The instant confirmation was nice because we hadn't planned far in advance, and Mia's alacrity in responding was much appreciated. The house and property are gorgeous and secluded, amenities/activities abundant, very friendly locals. Mia effortlessly straddled the line between being open for any/all inquiries and giving us space. I would absolutely come back and bask in amongst the stones (and very friendly dog) in the river!

  • Mia and her husband were so amazing to us during our stay in their amazing river front room!!! They were so sweet and welcoming right when we got there. They met us with refreshments in hand and went over the room to make sure we were comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with anything you could need...Mia even took the time to grind us fresh coffee! The view from the room was so very beautiful and the grounds were out of a dream! Mia's garden was so fun to roam through and she welcomes you actually picking and using any of the veggies you would like. They even set up a little sitting area right on the beach of the river where we spent a lot of our time just relaxing. Money well spent and such a nice treat...we hope to come back soon!!!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Bear River Studio. It was comfortable and relaxing with a beautiful view of the woods and river. Mia greeted us upon arrival and showed us all the ins and outs of the studio which was stocked with all the essentials we needed, including fresh ground coffee. Mia was quick to respond to my text messages, gave us suggestions for the area, had everything set up for us at the lake, and even got in the water to show us how to pan for gold, step by step! She was so awesome! Thanks Mia!

  • Mia welcomed us so warmly. She has a wonderful personal touch and made us feel at home. The studio apartment and natural setting, the well set-up spa and riverside all made for special get-away.

  • Mia was a great host! Very responsive and open to adjustment when mine and my husbands schedule went a little crazy. She was very excited to see us and show us around. Overall very welcoming and accommodating. Would definitely look into staying again. It was quite the perfect mini vacation.

  • This was my first time doing Air BnB so I was a little apprehensive. Mia greeted us promptly and toured us through the studio. It was really big and the bathroom is really nice! She had great information about local spots and winery recommendations. She invited us to come up on the upper deck for a glass of wine when we got settled in. The studio was beautiful with the entire front wall being all glass windows with a view of the river. It was totally private and had everything we needed and the bed was more comfortable than mine at home. There were lots of little thoughtful extras that made us feel like we were at a resort. There were kayaks and inner tubes available for floating! My boyfriend kayaked and I floated on an inter tube tethered to a tree so I wouldn't float down stream! We BBQ'd out our second night and Mia was kind enough to bring us some fresh veggies for our dinner from her gigantic garden. I don't know why I ever hesitated trying Air BnB. We had an awesome time and definitely plan to go back later this summer.

  • I'm so in love with these people. Mia and Tom have their fingers on the pulse of what makes life joyful. I admire their ability to live and I'm grateful to have absorbed some of their remarkable energy.

Our Colfax 1600' sq. cabin is a slice of heaven on 3.8 acres. Watch turkeys and deer meander by from our brand new huge deck! We only accept 100% nicotine free guests: NO SMOKING. NO EXCEPTIONS! Save time: state you are nicotine free in your introduction. We can sleep 4 easily, and up to 7 if we must! We can't do more than 7. We don't do groups with 5+ females because we are on septic. We have recently upgraded the FLOORS! During HWY 80 road closures WE are always accessible!
This is a RUSTIC style 1600 square foot cabin, about 5-7 minutes from highway 80, where you can spend quality time with your family and friends. Our remote location is by design. (We only accept non nicotine users. Please acknowledge this in your inquiry! No smoking OR vaping!) We have done everything we can to represent this property accurately. If you read the WHOLE listing, it should give you a clear picture. Our two plus bedroom home, is on 3.76 oak covered acres, 1/4 mile off the main road! Both the house and the garden are always improving! (right now we are focused on the garden!) Jamie is obsessed with the gardens! Inside, we have a moderately open floor plan and a relaxed rustic country feel. Our reviews reflect the way the house WAS, not the way it IS as of MARCH 2017! Basic use by 2: includes the GUEST bedroom ONLY and the rest of the whole house except the porch. Basic use by 3 or 4. There is a Master bedroom, which is made availabe to groups of this size, but the enclosed porch is still our domain. Basic use by 5: Please use the couch in the library for an extra bed, but there is no dresser available in that room. Enclosed porch still not included. Use by 6 or 7: We open enclosed porch which can also sleep two. A large arch opens from the great room, to what is legally but not practically, a third bedroom. We use it as a library instead. We have a variety of games, books, movies and music, to foster a relaxing atmosphere. We have wifi and chromecast. We personally use a TV subscription that travels with us, so you may not have TV unless you do too. Our cabin is simply and comfortably furnished. We just recently added a new love seat and couch combination. The library has a couch as well. If an extra bed is needed, use THE LIBRARY COUCH (but please make up with sheets from the hall closet!) The living room couches are not very good for sleeping on at all, and we ask that they are NOT used for this purpose. The rugs throughout the home are a variety of genuine Persian, contemporary, machine-made but Persian style, and fur (why we can't have animals). The floors were installed in FEB 2017. The porch was built in FEB 2017. We did a complete REHAB, not a remodel, so there has been a lot of work that you won't be able to see, but the house is now in perfect structural condition. The enclosed porch, our Winter Garden, is usable as a sleeping area, on for large parties. There are two twin beds on the porch, a day bed and a trundle underneath. Both have memory foam pads over mattresses. There is neither heat nor a/c on the enclosed porch but leaving the french doors open keeps the room quite comfortable. There really is nowhere to store clothes though, it's just a sleeping area. Sharing OUR Master bedroom, if you have 2 in your group who prefer not to sleep together is available upon request, with advance planning and ADDITIONAL COST. We do NOT offer the closet and we keep it locked with a key lock to avoid confusion. Cook in the large full kitchen (with a gas range including oven), if you prefer to eat in. Basic spices and many kitchen supplies are available to you. Please do not eat food from our freezer or consume our alcohol. If you see a product is almost gone, please inform us, or replace it. There is nothing like having a meal planned and finding someone used up all of a needed ingredient we no longer have due to guest use. Barbecue on our charcoal grill, rather than gas, - it creates juicier, more flavorful food than the gas grill we have at our other home. It only takes a very few minutes to fire it up with our coal tower, (no chemicals needed!) and we have plenty of mesquite charcoal available for your use, plus pitched kindling to start it with. It is NOT a wood burning fire pit though, as you will see in the pictures. DO NOT ADD WOOD to the already burning briquettes. We stay in our "Cottage", a secondary building, if our presence overlaps with yours. If you wish, Jerry might include you in whatever meals we have, but do plan to provide and prepare your own food. (Jerry is a fab cook!!!) If Jerry cooks for you, it will be done in the main house. The Cottage kitchen is not really adequate for family style meals. Dine either in the separate dining room or large kitchen nook. We have seating for up to ten, but we would never rent to that large a group with only one bathroom. Wood is our primary heat source during the winter. A wood burning stove is located in the great room, providing cozy and romantic winter warmth. It is also very dangerous to touch when it is being used so we do not allow its use with children under 10 present. Jamie just tripped and burned both hands on it for the first time. It was not fun. There is furnace heat as well for families with young children. We have great air conditioning for the summer months. However, we feel safe opening the windows at night and getting fresh air during the summer months, and seldom run the a/c ourselves. We hope you will prefer to cool the house at night and save the environment. There are EIGHT Gardens, with an extraordinarily long growing season, which we are working to restore to their former glory (after being a rental for a few years) which surround us on three sides, as well as above the house on the eastern hill and behind the back yard. The deck is on two sides of the western side of the house. The back yard is just getting started on being rehabbed. The side yard will not be rehabbed this year. It is still under duress. We have a hot tub, which is awesome and is located off the library. It is NOT GUARANTEED as part of the amenities. Consider it a bonus. We don't charge extra for it, but neither do we promise it is available. Gentle slopes allow for easy walking around the yard and grounds. Our chicken coop stands empty, an enclosed vegetable garden and green house, will over time bring our home back to its original glory. There are berries and grapes growing wild. Help yourself! Chains are almost never required, yet we are close to serious snow in the winter, where they will be. We do get a few dustings of our own snow at the ranch, which we call "postcard snow". During all of the road closures of highway 80 this winter we have remained open. The main road where we have our address leads right to the Bear River! Our driveway, (a quarter mile long!) comes off the main road and passes three other houses. *the bison was humanely put down by a family member and all of the meat consumed, by our extended family.
COLFAX is a town of great significance, in the very important Californian "Gold Country" of the Sierra Foothills. Colfax is roughly equidistant between Sacramento and Truckee (40 to 60 minutes). We are about 25 minutes from Grass Valley and Nevada City via 174 and about 20 minutes or 15 miles above Auburn, to Rollins Lake or the American River. Each of the towns mentioned has a great deal of their own history. OUT AND ABOUT: PANNING FOR GOLD: Bear River is right down the road from our home, just a few miles outside of Colfax. ARTS: The Colfax Theater is state of the art both in projection and sound. You will love Dine and Dash, but you will stay to relax! We just got a Beach Hut Deli. It offers breathtaking views of this designated "Wild and Scenic" section of the river canyon." TRAIN: There are trains in and out of Colfax, and Jamie just took her first trip. Great for a day trip! Food and alcohol on board! You can go either towards Oakland or Reno. ACTIVITIES IN and ON the PROPERTY: GAMES: There are games, and playing cards, plus a new sound system for your rented movies and TV series. We have about 30 movies. Streaming movies is possible but we don't do it ourselves. WALK: Our oak covered hills take a while to walk, featuring deer, turkey, and fox, cutting through the property. RELAX as you sip your coffee in the early morning or enjoy a glass of wine on the deck in the evening. barely seeing evidence the nearest neighbor in any direction! Keep an eye out for those deer and other wildlife! We have rarely seen skunk and racoon, but they are there. BIRDWATCH: SierraFoothillsAudubon lists dozens of birds that you can watch from our deck, or while hiking. WILD FRUIT PICKING: Blackberries abound in the summer and you can pick them to your hearts content. Same with with wild cherries, if you can beat the birds to them! There are wild grapes, if you are ambitious and blueberries if you are fast! WE have wifi, but if you need to print, the library offers printing for 15 cents a page.
  • A truly quiet escape located only minutes from the infamous Yuba river. A simple house tucked away in a little valley, this place is ideal to beat the huddle and bustle of city life. They allow dogs which is wonderful, and the large open space is ideal to host those looking to utilize there space for grilling, or cooking of any kind. Be aware, the hot tub was not in working order so don't give your hopes up on that!

  • Jamie volunteered to take us in with only three hours notice after another rental fell through. She was conscientious and worked hard to coordinate with us before our arrival. What a wonderful last minute save! The home is located in a lovely wooded forest, and is very quiet.

  • It was definitely a fun getaway. The whole goal was to eat, drink, and be merry. We had plans to go to check out the local, go hiking, and stuff, but that didn’t happen. We found ourselves just letting everything go! The fireplace was so awesome, it made the whole place cozy! Monday, we decided to stay in. We played board games that we brought, there were some there that we played! It was really relaxing. We watched a couple redboxes. Nothing beats just chilling hard! Sunday night, we cooked dinner. Pretty much wine and dined. My friend Noah is a chef. He cooked a lot and all the kitchen gadgets are there! My friend was on a wheelchair the entire weekend; she said the space in the cabin was perfect. It wasn’t small or anything. Only thing is to get on and off the deck. It was my goal for all of us to disconnect from reality, but my friend had a laptop and she used WIFI to get some of her work-related stuff done. Not only I’d recommend it to friends, family, but I’m thinking of renting the entire week in a couple of months so I can go snowboarding with friends!

  • Jamie was very descriptive in her communications and house manual, we didn't have any questions when we arrived. The house was lovely, quiet, and had everything we needed neatly laid out and accessible. The grounds and surrounding wilderness are beautiful. It was a great, relaxing retreat.

    Stephen2015-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great cabin! It was clean and comfortable. The location was quiet and an easy drive to skiing every day for us. We really enjoyed the wood fire!

    Jason2015-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at Jamie and Jerry's mountain home. The location was very secluded, but yet still close to town. The house is simple but beautifully maintained and incredibly clean.

  • What a wonderful find! Delightful spot if you're looking for a quiet weekend away. And, the place is so beautifully appointed... incredible attention to detail. Can't recommend Meg and Luca's place highly enough.

  • Meg and Lucas were great hosts and the cottage was perfect for us, highly recommended!

    Stephen2017-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best overall AirBnb experience we've had. Meg & Lucas were friendly, responsive, clear communicators. The cottage (not to mention the overall property) is gorgeous, comfortable, and well-appointed. Everything about the stay was easy and pleasant. Only minor issue - internet was kinda slow, but you're not going out there to just spend time on the computer/netflix anyway, and we were able to use our mobile hotspots easily enough. All in all, we can't wait to go back!

    Saran2017-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 nights at Meg and Lucas’ cottage on a warm and sunny weekend in the fall. We booked this trip for our family last minute. The photos of the house and property were appealing and the region has a lot to offer. But reality really exceeded our expectations! The quiet rural setting, the very welcoming, comfortable, and clean rooms, a convenient kitchen that had everything we needed to fix meals at home, lots of light, many thoughtful touches for guests, everything made this weekend a great experience. Also many tips were listed in a binder that were helpful and spot-on for our days out exploring the area. It’s very close to Nevada City, the Yuba River, Scotts Flat Lake, etc. We’d definitely love to be back for a week-long stay and see more of the region.

    Anne2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in this spacious, clean, adorable cottage!

    Katy2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Meg and Lucas's cottage was a beautiful retreat on our trip to Gold Country. The decor of the cottage was just lovely, and so very much thought clearly went into making our stay both comfortable and convenient. The area felt pleasantly rural, while still being convenient to surrounding towns and sites. Staying here was a wonderful, peaceful getaway that I would love to do again.

  • Kathryn's in-law unit was great! It is on the side of the detached garage opposite the main house. This was our first Airbnb and we were so happy with our choice. The fridge and cupboards were stocked with thoughtful food choices that we totally were not expecting! Hot cocoa that our son loved, coffee (we brought our own since we didn't know, but awesome!), half and half, even eggs and toast and a few apples! The unit was nicely appointed and clean, bathroom has obviously been remodeled recently and looked very nice and we enjoyed nice warm showers with great water pressure. Our 5 year old son used the blow up mattress which was a hit. We didn't have time to watch any TV but Kathryn had some cool DVD's. We did have time to play a couple board games that she had on the bookshelf, which our son thought was very cool. Overall we had a great stay and will be back again in the future!

  • Kathryn's place is fantastic and very comfortable. A perfect getaway.

    Joseph2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Kathryn's place was first class, great amenities and immaculate. Easy to find, quite and peaceful. The place is close to everything. Well stocked kitchen and essentials. The towels and linens very clean and fresh. All the right touches. The host was very thoughtful, I got in late and she left the lights on for me. I actually felt like I was home. I highly recommend this place.

  • My husband and I needed a short get away from our daily grind and this fit the bill. The home is as described: modern, private, "off-the-grid." We enjoyed the peace and quiet. Although it rained not allowing us to explore the property, the glass doors brought the outdoors in and gave us a feeling of living in the trees. Barrie & Tod left wonderful details about the house and suggestions on things to do in the area. We'd love to experience the house and property during different seasons. We've already recommended this house to friends of ours. And we plan to return soon. Thank you, Barrie & Tod, for sharing this wonderful place.

    Linda2014-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Incredibly cozy and relaxing! Everything you need is there to really enjoy your time in the middle of nature. Saw and heard lots of animals (and few human noises- boats). The lake is much closer than it appears in the picture. Couldn't ask for more!

    Steph & Byron2015-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had the perfect holiday get away at the lake house! The house is beautiful, and the view is to die for. We had our dogs with us, and I have never seen them so happy. We spent the days walking the trails to the lake, and even though it was freezing, the pups went for a swim. The house was cozy and warm, the kitchen was great to cook in, and the surround sound made watching movies a blast. We will definitely be back, sooner than later!

  • Quite a majestic place. If you love design in any medium, you will without a doubt enjoy this fine piece of architecture, AND if you love the great outdoors, THIS is the place for you! I had stayed here a total of 5 days, enjoyed serene views, canoed every single day, and disconnected from the 'world'. I can't say I've enjoyed a road trip so much, and I've been on quite a few. This one will stand out in my memory for a long time. Barrie / Tod are also incredible hosts, they did everything to make our stay welcoming, icing on the cake. Will definitely be coming back here.

  • Wonderful retreat! Beautiful house and peaceful setting for a midweek or off season visit.

    Wendell2015-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Getting to the house was easy we had absolutely no problem finding it, and once there gaining access was simple. The house is fully stocked with everything we needed including the kitchen and bathroom. Bedding and towels were great too. The grill was very nice/simple and started up with ease. The outdoor seating was nice and as others have said its great that the area is enclosed to allow for dogs to roam without getting into too much trouble. We did see wildlife close up (deer, lizards) so its probably smart to keep an eye on your pets either way though. There's a general store close by with everything you could possibly need including ice/cooler. Plenty of different restaurant choices nearby including dog friendly choices. As for the noise some have posted about.. Did we hear some noise on the water during the day? Yes. Did it bother us? Not at all. Part of the beauty of the place is its close proximity to the lake, and part of the fun of the location is to enjoy the water. If you goal is complete and total seclusion from civilization, then I suggest not staying directly near a popular lake in the warm months. Will stay again

    Dennis2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in the Lotus lake house. It's a unique place in a fantastic location. Very quiet, with great lake views and close to the nature. Welcome to the Cottage on the Farm! Enjoy a private getaway, but still be close to everything! 45 minutes from Boreal Ski Resort, 90 minutes from Tahoe or the Napa Valley, and only 2 1/2 hours from San Francisco, whatever you like to do, the Cottage is a perfect home base. Whether you like skiing, hiking, fishing, kayaking, wine tasting or antique shopping, or just relaxing, you have come to the right area.
For years our friends have enjoyed visiting in the cottage, and they have encouraged us to share it with you! The cottage has been newly refurbished--with everything! Brand new deluxe queen size bed with cozy bedding, table and chairs that look out the french doors on the property. Futon that can sleep two. There's also a small desk. There is no TV, but you can stream movies or videos on your device. Kitchen area has fridge, microwave, large toaster oven, crock-pot, electric skillet, rice cooker, blender, spices, utensils and more. We supply coffee, tea, creamer, sugar and small snacks for your convenience. If you need a special ingredient, just ask. We have a pretty well-stocked kitchen in the main house. There is also an outside cooking area, with a BBQ and 2 burner propane stove. Propane heat will keep you toasty in cold weather. There is also a swamp cooler and fans for when the weather heats up. Our property is a mini farm, so there are some things to be aware of. There is an unfenced pond on the property, so we don't recommend bringing small children. Infants are ok, but toddlers are sometimes hard to keep track of! There is a washer and dryer on the mud porch of the main house that you are welcome to use if necessary. We also have an iron, ironing board and probably anything else you might need. We are here to make your stay enjoyable!
This is a rural area, but is close to so many attractions. Into micro brews or wine? Auburn has some great breweries and a great wine trail. Hiking or biking? We've got that! Did you say water? We are close to the Bear River, the American River, Rollins Lake and more! Are you a skier? Less than an hour up the hill to some great resorts. History buff? You've come to the right place. Check our website for lots of details. (URL HIDDEN)
  • We enjoyed our multi-day stay, to visit friends for Thanksgiving. Location was easily accessible and centrally located for our many drives to other houses, into town, etc. Very comfy bed!! Grounds are enjoyable, with all the trees, grass, pond ... our daughter really enjoyed the tree swing chair! Suzanne and Ed were very friendly and helpful.

  • This place was amazing, the cottage itself is adorable and cozy!! The pond was also a wonderful place to spend some quiet time at, day or night since the hosts were very thoughtful in strategically placing lights around the property, the dock included! Suzanne and Ed provided much in the kitchenette of the cottage and even a complimentary wine bottle after our long drive! They gave us a tour and checked in twice to make sure we had everything we needed (and they really leave the whole property open to your enjoyment for whatever need). The location is close to Tahoe, Donner lake/museum, Nevada City (do not miss seeing this town! Try to catch the farmers market also!), And Auburn is a great place to stop for supplies and walk around. Overall an amazing experience and place, I definitely recommend this place!

  • Suzanne and Ed were wonderful hosts. The cottage was overstuffed with all the amenities you would need and it was immaculate. The fire pit was all made up for a cozy marshmallow roast and the ingredients for s'mores left out. We didn't do that, left it for Ed and Suzanne to enjoy! The bed and bedding were very comfortable, romantic. Sitting by the pond birdwatching was peaceful. It was nice to have the wifi to plan the next leg of our trip...

    Jim2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable! Just a few things to do on heating the place properly.

    Tami2017-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The place is full of small little extras and big extras that make it really just like "home", which is great when you are traveling! The property is off one of the main side roads..but the place is very quiet, serene, and green :) Both the bed and futon are quite comfortable. Suzanne made great effort to make sure we were comfortable and had all our needs met. If you want a weekend get away, a nice respite, or a unique little spot to stop along the way to tahoe, or just stay in auburn...this is a great choice!

    h2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne and Ed's cottage was super cozy and located in the perfect location. I wanted a place to stay where I could do some cycling right out the front door and did just that there! Very well stocked kitchen with every appliance necessary to avoid eating out! If you're looking for a quiet little getaway, you won't be disappointed at Suzanne's cottage!

    Kristi2018-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I like hiking, so we were looking for a place near some parks with scenic views, and we were very happy to find Cozy Cottage on the Farm place. We stayed here for three nights and we really enjoyed it. During our stay we visited several parks with easy/moderate trails, such as Hidden Falls Park and Auburn State Recreation Area. The most interesting was Foresthill Divide Loop Trail - 11.5 miles moderate trail with picturesque views. House is very cozy, secluded, clean and very comfortable. Thanks to Suzanne and Ed we felt like at home. They are great hosts, very friendly and welcoming. They were easy to get in touch with and answered all questions we had. Suzanne sent us a link to their website which is packed with loads of details on restaurants, wineries, sport activities, historical landmarks and so on. We haven't had a chance to visit this place before, so the website was very helpful! I would definitely recommend this place!

Transient Occupancy Tax of 10% due at the time the reservation is made. It will be collected by Air BnB. Lovely log home near the historic Grass Valley/Nevada City area. Spa, year-round creek with swimming hole and rope swing, local hiking trails and hammocks in the back yard. Ping Pong, rope swing, games, movies, Near Bear, American and S. Yuba rivers
Open floor plan with great room. Fully stocked kitchen with plenty of cabinets to store your things. Two large decks and a SPA. Hammocks in the yard. Stream right in the back yard with rope swing and swimming hole. Tether ball and ping pong and lots of other games, movies and a library.
Creek with rope swing and swimming hole right in the back yard. Hammocks in the back yard. This is a country neighborhood. I own 10 acres but most of my property is behind the house and across the creek where there are hiking trails that you may access.
  • Well equipped home. Full kitchen. We had family meals and played games in back yard. The creek was nice to put our feet in. We had 9 people and all were comfortable. Diane was a helpful great host!

    Della2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Overall a really nice place to stay if you want to visit the Yuba River and Nevada City! Love the creek in the back, the hammocks, and the hot tub. The kitchen is well-stocked too. The master bathroom is missing a door, which is a little awkward for folks in the master bedroom suite.

    Zoe2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect space for a quiet peaceful weekend. Diane has her hosting game down pat!

    Brendan2017-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • We spent most of our time sitting by the creek. The sound of the water rolling over the rocks was calming. The weather was perfect and the water is so clear in the creek that you can see the river rocks at the bottom. Beautiful butterflies and blue dragonflies were flitting about. Tiny birds were chirping and flying from tree to tree. The sunshine dappled the water through the trees. It was delightful.

    Marta2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic Cabin that I would definitely love to visit again in the future. We had so much fun swimming in the creek, relaxing in the hot tub, and enjoying dinner and games in a beautiful relaxed cabin. The communication and accommodation by the host was wonderful as well.

  • Diane's log house was the perfect place for us to spend Christmas! We would love to return when the weather is better so we can enjoy the swimming hole.

Spacious hilltop retreat with natural beauty, privacy, views, solar-heated pool, hot tub, nestled in rolling oak/pine/manzanita forest outside of Grass Valley. Open common space and spacious well-stocked kitchen. Three bedrooms sleep seven (mats / sofa beds extend capacity to 12). Garage with foosball, ping pong, games. No cable but TV with DVD and HDMI cable for playing movies. No internet will leave you relaxed! Beautiful mountains, river, snow, biking, Nevada City and Grass Vly nearby.
The house was built in 2005 with excellent insulation and double pane windows throughout. It is furnished in rustic but comfortable mountain style. The house has a fantastic open floor plan. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked, and it's easy to cook and converse with folks in the common space. There is a large dining table that can be expanded to seat 12, as well as 2 comfortable couches, and an armchair by the cozy indoor gas stove. The central heat and A/C work great. A sunny deck with 5-person hot tub, outdoor shower, and retractable shade-awning overlooks a beautiful wooded ridge beyond the enclosed back yard. Outdoor picnic table and benches are perfect for breakfast or dinner and several zero-gravity chairs make for great outdoor lounging or reading. On the other side of the house, a brand new, elegant, large swimming pool blends beautifully with the natural forest setting. Solar heat allows swimming from May through September. Garage has ping pong, foosball, plenty of board, card games, and hang out/ sleeping space perfect for older kids and teens (weather permitting). The property is on 5 acres with end-of-the-road privacy and opportunity for nature walks, and an easy paved drive to gold-rush era towns of Nevada City or Grass Valley as well as wineries, river crossings and Sierra outdoor adventures.
5 acre lots are far apart, often undeveloped. You are unlikely to see anyone unless you try.
  • Seven of my family members stayed at Amy's place for Christmas. It was cozy, peaceful, and roomy. Beautiful surroundings and a lovely pool, although we only used the hot tub. We had everything we needed for sleeping, cooking, and dining. We shopped for food in Grass Valley at Briarpatch, great market! We skied one day at Squaw Valley, and joined my daughter in Meadow Vista for Christmas. So the location worked for us. Amy is a fantastic host; caring, responsive, and friendly. We would highly recommend her place!

Introducing the Cedar House! Experienced Airbnb Superhosts are proud to offer this light, bright 1940s charmer in the Cedar Ridge community of Grass Valley. Less than five minutes' drive from downtown, two minutes from Empire Mine, 10 minutes to Nevada City. Quiet street, tall trees, close to walking trails and a block from the General Store and Post Office. Brand new floors throughout, fresh paint, new appliances and fixtures.
This newly remodeled space is ready for you to move in and make it yours for your stay! We are committed to providing our guests a premium, comfortable experience. To be upfront, please note that the sofa-bed is small, with dimensions of a European "small-double." It would suit two children, but two adults might find it cramped. The floorplan is "open," with all rooms flowing into one another. While the bedroom is separate and around a corner, the only interior door is the one to the bathroom.
The street is a special one, in a neighborhood of peaceful, friendly folks and families. It's the kind of street on which kids put up basketball hoops, their games only rarely interrupted by the occasional car.Mature trees stand like sentinels at property corners and organically throughout yards both sweeping and small. There is even a Christmas tree farm a few houses down! The delights of downtown Grass Valley are a scant four-minute drive away. Better yet, leave your car keys at home and enjoy the walkability of a micro-town. A general store with local fare (including hot pasties) is located a block away, the neighborhood Post Office Is another block, and a trail leading to Empire Mine meanders through nearby wilderness. Local children often play in the parking lot and field behind the Grace Bible Church.
  • This Airbnb in Cedar Ridge is a quaint little place, nestled in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood filled with tall pine trees, that gives it an "out of the city" feel! AND it's listed at a great price for the space. The pictures do a great job of showcasing the feeling of the cabin however it is bigger than we expected. A few special things we loved about this place were that it was sooooo clean (which is a high on my scale of what's important), the heater worked great, it has a land line that has free long distance since the cell service there is not great, there is also a small table space for eating meals and good sitting room for visiting or watching television. AND it has a washer and dryer which was so awesome!! This airbnb host was also extremely helpful with instructions about things and replied very promptly when we needed to contact her with questions!

  • MaryJane's place is located in a quiet, wooded neighborhood about a 10 minute drive from downtown Grass Valley and a 15 minute drive from Nevada City, with easy access to both. The house is on the small side but doesn't feel cramped or crowded in any way. Gets good light. I was only there two nights but could have easily stayed longer. I didn't meet MaryJane in person but the self check-in is easy and she messaged me a couple times to see if I needed anything. Recommend!

  • What a wonderful hideaway spot! Situated back from the road, this private cottage affords all the amenities you look for in a getaway. Nicely appointed and clean and cared for, and includes essential supplies like shampoo, soap, cooking oils, and morning coffee thrown in as a bonus! Comfy bed, and several places to sit and read or write or get online. Great parking right out front and a washer/dryer right in the unit. Close enough to services, but far enough away that you really feel the peace of nature. We can't wait to go back!

  • It's a beautiful cottage surrounded by tall cedar trees, near the Empire Gold Mine National Park. Just a short drive to Grass Valley and to the Yuba River. The inside was recently remodeled and done well. Every amenity you need is available. Plenty of parking space, and located in a quiet neighborhood. Cell reception is spotty sometimes, but there is strong wifi. There's a gas station and general store within walking distance. My girlfriend and I absolutely loved it there!

  • Our week at "The Sunshine House Retreat" was amazing! Janice was so helpful and kind. The house is beautiful and clean. This was a very special family vacation before everyone went back to school and busy with lives. We have a daughter from Portland and a son in school at Vermont, along with our kids that are still home. It is a very rare thing to bring everyone together and this wonderful place made it possible. We spent days swimming in the pond, eating lots of home cooking from the large kitchen, went to the county fair one day... and the best part of the trip... Janice and Jim gave us directions to some of the best swimming holes on the Yuba River! We can't wait to go back to the beautiful, peaceful house. Thank you so much.

    Jamil2014-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second stay at the sunshine house - last time was in winter and this time was in summer. Property is equally beautiful in both seasons, but this time I got to enjoy the hammock and swinging chairs, and hear the chorus of frogs in the pond. An idyllic place!

    Kate2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We rented the Sunshine house for a girl's getaway with my sisters-in-law. The house was amazing - well equipped, comfortable, beautiful, located in the forest with 2 ponds on site. We enjoyed Thai massages up at the massage studio with Janice. It was one of the best massages I've ever had, and I get them regularly, and have been to Thailand. You must experience it! Next, we picked blackberries outside our house, and our host lent us ingredients to make a blackberry crisp for dessert. We grilled and ate dinner al fresco on the patio and enjoyed the magical sparkling green lights that lit up the giant tree out back. Two of us slept in the tent equipped with comfortable mattresses out by the pond, where the sounds of crickets and frogs lulled them to sleep. In the morning, we had a Restorative Yoga session with Alex, who was sweet and incorporated an original song composition into her relaxing yoga session. We only regretted we couldn't stay longer, since we didn't get a chance to use the 2-person infrared sauna in back of the house during our one-night stay. We are already talking about coming back! Such a great spot.

    Stacy2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Janice and Jim's place was a clean and relatively convenient option for our Yuba River-destined party. We stayed just one night on our way from the city to the water, and were able to reach one of our favorite crossings with just a short 20 minute drive.

    Stephanie2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place, house a piece of heaven. The house is full of light and so so inviting to be.At the end of the day the sky changes and it is a wonderful sight for the soul. when it got dark the same sky had an amazing "stat show" it was unbelievable. You have all you need including Yoga mats, very comfortable beds to sleep on.This house is a labor of love and detail . KIds loved the swings and the outdoor space to run around. We loved it,each for his own rission. We will be back.

  • The sunshine house was wonderful! It was peaceful and very serene. Charming and perfect for yoga and meditation. Would definitely stay again. Janice and Jim were great host.

  • Our family had an incredible time at the Sunshine House. Janice was a caring and responsive host. The house was warm, peaceful, and full of thoughtful touches. The amazing kitchen had everything we needed to prepare festive holiday meals with style. The property surrounding the house was beautiful. Our kids enjoyed star gazing, frisbee golf, and exploring the pond. We made wonderful memories and look forward going back.

    Cheri2015-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a lovely weekend at the Sunshine House with two families of 4. The loft was great for the kids and the adults were very comfortable downstairs. The outside areas were peaceful and appealing. We splashed around in the swimming pond with the frogs and dragonflies - loved it! The cottage is very clean and well-appointed and Janice was attentive and easy to communicate with. The single bathroom was a bit of a challenge with 8 including 4 teenage girls, but it was a minor inconvenience for the comfort and tranquility offered. Kudos to Janice and Jim for creating such a wonderful oasis.

Paula and Konrad had great communication from booking until check out. Their home was very clean and comfortable. They had everything for a full breakfast and a bottle of wine, which was very generous of them! The enclosed porch has a beautiful view and a great spot to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The beds are really comfortable and we both slept really good. • Carol's home was lovely and we had a great time visiting Grass Valley while staying at her place. We had to attend an event in downtown and it was very close. About 12 mins away. The living space was very clean/spotless and contained everything that we needed. Since we were on the bottom floor of the hostess' house, she was easily accessible and helped us settle in when we checked in. We entered through the private entrance, but Carol was able to greet us through the indoor entrance. She answered all our questions and gave a mini tour of all the amenities. She even left us organic snacks and white wine! The house is in a quiet neighborhood and is surrounded by tall pine trees. It was very peaceful and you could see the stars very clearly at night. Overall, the location was beautiful - we even saw deer in the front yard.

  • We had a really great stay! Rhonda and her husband were very gracious. My family had complete access to their amazing and picturesque gold country property. Our stay was peaceful and very private. The outdoor hot tub and bathroom/shower were particularly nice. I can highly recommend this property. It was perfect for our family with a 4 yo and 6 month old. Thanks again!

  • Great place!!! The pictures don’t give this house justice... Highly recommend it!

    Jared2017-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great oasis to just relax and have family time. The swimming pool was so much fun for toddlers and teens. It's also conveniently close to Colfax for groceries, fastfood and sit down restaurants.

    Steve2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda was extremely hospitable and thoughtful, she communicated throughout the day of our arrival, spent quality time ensuring it was ready, and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. I forgot to mention that this was a same day booking. Simply fantastic service. When she says that it is an oasis she means it. The pool, the fire pit, and outdoor environment is absolutely one-of-a-kind. The quarters were nice, while a little cramped for 9 guests, most of them spent their time outside because who wouldn't here, so it wasn't an issue. On our final morning she even made homemade waffles, and brought them out to the pool. I highly recommend this to anyone, and would gladly stay again. Thanks for the wonderful time!

  • This is great private secluded place in the forest, not very far away from the freeway. Directions provided by Allie were perfect. Room was heated when we arrived. Coffee and fresh cookies were available. It has private entrance so it is easy to come at your convenience. Wifi was also working. Overall this is great place and will come back again.

  • Gary and Allie are great hosts and the place is so beautiful! The whole place is very tastefully decorated and we have excellent privacy to access the bath room. Everywhere is so clean and the outdoor view is spectacular. They really did their best job to describe the place and it was all matched. We would love to come back!

  • This is an exceptional place to stay. Highly reccomend! Great communication, quiet, clean and beautiful.

    Shannon2017-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely a dream. Beautifully decorated, private entrance, extremely clean, nice amenities. Loved the secret hot chocolate and home made muffin. Allie and Gary made us feel so comfortable. Sitting on their deck sipping wine, relaxing and looking out at the scenery what a great way to end a day and a great way to start our day with coffee and a home made muffin. Thank you Allie and Gary. We hope to stay at your place again.

  • My boyfriend and I are skiers and generally like to stay in Sacramento but this place was even better than staying in Sacramento! It was way closer to the slopes, super clean, so hospitable with the home-baked goods, and very comfortable. Only suggestions would be to bring your own shampoo and conditioner because they supply hotel-like shampoo that isn't too nice on the hair.

    Anne Marie2017-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful room is in a fantastic location for those who love the feeling of being in the woods, but also want to be close to things to do. The bed is extremely comfortable and the coffee bar they have in the room is fantastic! Gary and Allie were exceptional hosts that have clearly put time and effort into making your stay as comforting as possible. P.S. You have to try their homemade hot cocoa!

    Cody2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • I wish I could give this place a 6 star review! I have stayed at a lot of Airbnb's and this was my favorite experience thus far. Gary and Allie thought of everything. And the room/house/property is simply stunning. Definitely stay here if you get the chance!!

  • Susan's organic farm is truly an oasis of rejuvenation and peace. The beautiful room overlooks the foothills and in the distance the Sierras. Susan made the most gorgeous home cooked meals upon request and went out of her way to have the most relaxing, restorative experience possible. It was the perfect week.

    Susan2016-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's home is absolutely beautiful!! Tons of sunshine and space. Her space is warm, inviting, grounded, and magical. You can see how much she cares for community and the environment through her organic garden of veggies, beautiful flowers, and the chickens/eggs. I also can't forget about Susan! She's loving, smart, beautiful, so compassionate and nurturing but very fun. I had the pleasure of being around her for a day and I'm so grateful that I was. There are many things to learn from her and I enjoy encountering people like that in my life! Grass Valley and Nevada City are magical towns to experience at least once in your lifetime.

  • Susan is a very thoughtful and friendly host. Her home is in a quiet area of the Gold Country foothills, very comfortable and well-equipped for our overnight needs. The bed was comfortable and room is spacious and clean. This room shares a well-stocked kitchen with another adjacent room, which sometimes houses another guest. Susan went out of her way to make us all comfortable. There were friends and family visiting on the property, but plenty of space and quiet for everyone. We loved the view of the foothills and nearby Sierras, as well as the chickens (fresh eggs!), garden, tall pine trees and fresh air. I highly recommend Susan's place for a peaceful getaway or just a night passing through!

    Molly2015-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • The stay was great and very comfortable. The unit is independent so I had full privacy. The bed is super king size, the shower is large and the kitchen is nice and fully loaded. Free organic eggs and access to fresh organic fruits was a bonus. Suzan was very pleasant and accommodating -- these were hot days and she always checked on me to see that i'm comfortable (The AC control is from her side of the unit)

  • Susan again provided the 3 of us a great experience in Grass Valley. Not only was our place very comfortable but she provided us fruit, cookies, granola bars, and even a delicious brunch! We highly recommend staying here, Susan is a great host!

  • My host Susan was excellant at seeing that I was comfortable and got what I needed. I felt welcomed and encouraged to walk around her amazing property. From the deck that I was on, you could view the morning sunrise peeking through the forrest of beautiful trees. Lovely.

  • We really appreciated Susan's flexibility in hosting us since our reservation was last minute. The house and the country setting are lovely. The room is very private with it's own bathroom. Everything was really clean and well-maintained and Susan has provided some provisions that were really helpful, like a bottle of wine, a couple of energy bars, and a coffee maker for the morning. The big surprise was the delightful egg breakfast from her own chickens and sauteed veggies from the garden. We enjoyed it outdoors at the table on the huge deck with a view of the forest and mountains beyond. Thanks Susan!

  • Susan is a most wonderful host and the room is more like a self contained unit. From the clear communication, the many special touches, delicious food, spacious room, beautiful views to Susan's warm and friendly manner this was a top quality AirBnB experience, I am so glad I got to visit with Susan.

  • We were warmly greeted with the smell of freshly baked cinnamon scones that tasted even better than they smelled. Our hostess was gracious, accommodating and responsive to our needs. We arrived late on our first evening and found our room inviting, clean and comfortable. A bottle of wine awaited us along with a basket of snacks and a well stocked refrigerator. We were quite please with the accommodations; the listing description is accurate. The home is situated in a beautiful park-like setting with views of the foothills and a spectacular garden. It is peaceful and quiet and offers a totally relaxing and refreshing stay. The organic vegetables and the farm fresh eggs are an added bonus. We highly recommend these accommodations.

  • I am so glad that I was able to stay at Susan's place. Everything was clean cozy warm and inviting. The kitchen had everything we needed to make up yummy healthy meals and the beds were very comfortable. All three of us slept incredibly well. This is a very unique place to stay with incredible views and a very healing energy. Susan is a great host and an inspiration for those that love the organic and sustainable garden movement. • We enjoyed our stay with Susan. She was very friendly and helpful. The only thing we did not like was no air-conditioning. The WI FI was fast.

    Margie2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's home was in a beautiful wooded location. The bed was very comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. The view of the mountains was incredible, and it was great to watch the sunrise from bed. Susan cooked us a very tasty and healthy breakfast using ingredients from her garden. Susan was very gracious and accommodated our requests. She was very friendly, and seemed very invested in making our stay comfortable.

    Lisa 2015-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much. Lovely, quiet setting with pretty view. Susan is a warm and friendly host. She is willing to accommodate in any way and answers texts quickly. She was kind enough to let us borrow some lawn chairs to take on an outing. Fresh eggs and coffee were a plus and allowed us to stay in for a nice breakfast out on the deck. Susan is flexible with checkin and checkout times and easygoing about everything. Fun time!

    Lisa 2015-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at Susan's! She was a most gracious and thoughtful host-she even left us some lovely produce from her garden to enjoy! I would definitely recommend her place to anybody! Plus the view is amazing off the back porch :)

  • Susan was a fantastic host! Beautiful room with trees and nature surrounding. Susan is also a phenomenal cook. Highly recommend staying here!

  • Susan is a great host. The accommodations were as described. I stayed in the cabin and there is a shared living room space and shared restroom in the main house. Susan has a nice food garden and a small bunch of chickens and ducks to keep you company as well. The location is conveniently located to the Auburn area. I was very satisfied with my stay, I only wish my schedule would have allowed more time so just relax and unwind, as Susan's place would be perfect for that.

    Monte 2017-03-16T00:00:00Z

  • This was the exact cozy cabin experience I was seeking when I came to Grass Valley for an 11 day school intensive. The cabin was clean, tidy, comfy, warm, with all the amenities I needed for a true glamping experience. Susan is both a lovely person and awesome host. I resonate with her farm education program and sustainable mission. Ultimately this was exactly the place I visualized when planning my trip . I cant wait to come back!
