Some important additional information. During the Covid 19 situation / throughout March / April... we are only able to accommodate local frontline workers, NHS staff needing accomodation and specific related bookings. We do look forward to taking your booking for forty coming months as availability permits and will give you a very warm welcome. Here is our usual introduction and basic information for you... We are a friendly, welcoming country house in one Dartmoor's most popular locations. We look forward to offering you a very comfortable stay and friendly, warm welcome within the private accommodation. We hope you'll find soaking and bubbling in our new high end luxury Hotsprings hydrotherapy hot tub - pretty special after a day of exploring. (On the odd occasion use of the hot tub maybe delayed slightly on your arriving day due to a warm refill and reheat or extended clean-we aim to have it functional on these rare occasions by the evening) it’s extremely rare that a slight delay occurs. The hot tub is for your groups soul use, it is not shared. We ask that the hot tub cover is always opened and closed by two people. This is lovely, spacious, cosy accomodation; there are two bedrooms and it's located within a private garden level of a large and historic country house (we can add extra children's beds after discussion if required), we've an amazing outdoor private hot tub- with beautiful sky's and Dartmoor air, it's really something to bubble the night away. We have wifi Internet and there's a flat screen TV with Freeview, a fully fitted kitchen with all the appliances you'd expected. The self contained Garden Rooms offers all the expected facilities and more including A Tassimo coffee machine. There's a large shower / wet room and separate toilet. There's a large private natural stone patio, and huge tiered decked seating area for outdoor entertaining & relaxing. The Garden Rooms are lit by an array of sumptuous gentle warm lamps adding very cosy and welcoming feel to what is the beautiful, airy, contemporary and spacious Garden Rooms. The house dates to approximately 1850 and is steeped in published history. We're only a 2 minute walk from open moorland and a 5 min walk from great local country pubs; it's only a 10 minute drive to Tavistock or the River Dart. There's a local post office, cafes and two country pubs in walking distance. We are also a very close walk to The National Park Moorland Visitors Centre. The main floors of the house are separate and our small family do live in the upper house, our Garden Rooms are on the lower ground floor of the main property and private to our guests; we offer the option for well behaved dog guests at a small extra charge (£10.00 per night per dog, we just ask dogs are not left alone at any point ( there are many many dog friendly pubs and some great restaurants too - we can send you an ideas list with this included information), we ask dogs do not climb or rest on soft furnishings and that they are cleaned up afterwards of course), this can be paid on arrival. Of course children are very, very welcome. We have safe key code access available if required, we offer full facilities for couples, familes or small groups of friends looking for some time out in a great location. We are only approximately 6.5 miles from Tavistock - and low cost Taxi fares are available if you fancy a night out with no driving; we'd be happy to assist you in booking a great local relaxed restaurant, or giving you some unique pointers of places to eat, drink or visit-so there's no need to miss out on finding great places. The area is fantastic for relaxing, and exploring the beautiful local villages and the local town of Tavistock. For the more energetic it's a fabulous location for biking (local bike hire's available), riding (local riding centres), climbing (The Barn), hiking, canoeing and kayaking (we can also assist you in booking great kayaking too with a family kayak business), fishing, photography and more... The Dartmoor scenery is hugely varied and really spectacular. There are lots of tantalising 'foodie venues', close by; plus markets and lovely shops in and around Dartmoors local villages and Towns. Dartmoor's a fantastic location to equally enjoy easy day trips to a wealth of north or south coast villages, beaches and river valleys (in Devon and Cornwall). We wish you an easy and relaxing homely stay. We don’t have outdoor lighting, although the hot tub has its own great underwater lighting and the patio doors allow light from the lounge to shine outside near the hot tub. Some guests bring a torch if they are arriving or departing The Garden Rooms in the dark - we recommend you bring a torch for dark nights. The Garden Rooms has some internal stairs, and also a couple of steps accessing The Garden Rooms and the private patio and deck area. Please be aware wet surfaces Inside and out can be slippy of course, and ensure you and your party are in good health to use our hot tub, there's also an wildlife pond. Babies. If you require a cot or high chair please give us a weeks notice to ensure this is available. Please bring your own cot mattress and your preferred baby sheets. We ask this of you for safety reasons and for certainty of your baby's ongoing comfort. (Christmas & New Year 2020 Only the whole property (Dartmoor Grange) including the private upper house is available to book - please see Dartmoor Grange as advertised on Airbnb. Chaplains House's Garden Rooms offer lovely and very well furnished spacious and cosy accomodation, and is only minutes from open, expansive beautiful national park. This is an eclectic mix of contemporary style and historic elegance, it's homely and a very relaxing. We price extremely competitively for the level of our facilities and have valued some really lovely guests. We can add children's beds or potentially offer accomodation for larger groups - please call us to discuss this. You will love the all year round large outdoor 5-6 person night lit hot tub! The property was 95% fully re-renovated in 2014/2015. It's really lovely, and very welcoming. We look forward to welcoming you and wish you a great stay.

A converted granite barn, it has painted stone walls and exposed beams. The open plan living space is warm and welcoming. It has most amenities (shower/washing machine/AGA) but is free from many of the distractions of modern life, there is no traffic or light pollution; the nearest mobile phone signal is half a mile up the hill. Get away from the world for a week! Please note the cottage has a shower room, no bath so no long soaks but who would want to with all of Dartmoor to explore!
Please note we are 13 miles from Yelverton, that is our postal town. See map for our specific location as we are situated remotely in the middle of Dartmoor. Our local, The Forest Inn, has yummy lunch and evening menus and is within easy walking distance. The Warren House Inn, The Rugglestone and The Old Inn are all local favourites. Ideal for those who like to walk in wild country, fish (permit required) or see iconic sites such as the Clapper Bridge at Postbridge, Haytor rocks, Dartmoor Prison or visit our local market towns.
  • Belle situation.

    Padraig2017-06-25T00:00:00Z

Set in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, The Annexe at Torgate House offers private accommodation, comprising of a bedroom with wood burning stove, a kitchen and dining/living area and a bathroom with bath and shower. The large gardens offer stunning views across Dartmoor, and unspoiled night skies. The Annexe is an ideal location for walkers, cyclists and photographers, as well as anyone looking for a tranquil getaway.
The Annexe is part of a Victorian property, with wooden floors and sash windows giving fantastic views across Dartmoor - on a clear day it is possible to see as far as Torquay from the garden. The Annexe was originally the office of the Duchy of Cornwall in Dartmoor. The kitchen and dining area in The Annexe includes an electric cooker, kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave, ideal for self-catering. Cutlery and crockery are provided. There is also a sofa and armchair, as well as a dining table. The bedroom has a double bed - there is space for a single bed and/or a travel cot, both of which are available on request. Please note that the single bed is a foldaway type, although it is comfortable! The bathroom includes a bath and shower. In addition to the woodburning stove, The Annexe benefits from central heating radiators in all rooms.
We are located within a 5 minute walk of Princetown, which has several good cafes, two pubs, a fish and chip shop, and the Dartmoor Visitor Centre. Torgate House is located in the heart of the moody and atmospheric moorland that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write The Hound of The Baskervilles. Furthermore, Princetown is home to Dartmoor Prison and the Prison museum, and a historically significant church. There are numerous cycle routes, footpaths and bridleways nearby which service Princetown. If you fancy somewhere a little more populated, the nearby stannary town of Tavistock is just 20 minutes away by car, and Plymouth is less than a 30 minute drive.

    Alexandra2019-08-26T00:00:00Z

The Chapel at The Oratory has been completely refurbished to enhance its heritage. We are close to two local pubs offering delicious lunch/dinner, and the Fox Tor Cafe which cannot be beaten for it's breakfasts. You’ll love The Chapel because of it's privacy and space, and because it's situated in of some of the most beautiful, atmospheric and dramatic landscapes. It equally suits couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
We are happy to say that The Chapel at The Oratory was newly updated and refurbished to enhance its history and heritage - think Chapel Chic! The Chapel is a self-contained part of our home, complete with it's own lockable entrance and hallway. The main room is divided into two areas: The Mezzanine - a double bed, sofa, storage for your clothes and TV. The Lounge - kitchenette, sofa which converts into two single beds, bookcase with local information, maps and plenty of reading material. The spacious bathroom has a fabulous free-standing bath, separate shower, toilet and sink. The bathroom can be kept toasty warm with underfloor heating if you wish. We provide top quality organic cotton towels and bedding, and only use environmentally friendly cleaning products (with elbow grease!).

The Forge is a unique place full of character set at the edge of Dartmoor and only 2 miles from the market town of Tavistock. The Forge is a great place for cyclists and walkers, or if you just want to get away from it all. The Cornish Coast is not far and the city of Plymouth full of history is just a short car journey. Tavistock has the markets and lovely cafes and restaurants. The Forge has a log burner to snuggle up next too on those chilly evenings and a garden to enjoy.
The Forge has a log burner and under floor heating so it can be occupied through the year. The first basket of logs will be complimentary and after that please purchase from us. We welcome dogs and we just ask that dogs do not go on the furniture and respect that others will visit that do not have them. We can supply dog beds, blankets and dog towels for their stay if you forget anything.
The Dartmoor views speak for themselves, walking, cycling or just sitting watching the world go by eating an ice cream. There are some lovely local pubs, Peter Tavy Inn and Elephants Nest 16th Century Inn.

The bunkroom is situated on the ground floor, within the bunkroom there is a small kitchen and shower. This is the perfect place to stay if you want to explore Dartmoor on foot or by bike. Ideal for those who don't camp but like to explore or when the weather not that good all you need to bring is a sleeping bag. It’s no frills inside camping so don’t expect a chocolate on your pillow!!
The room has a basic kitchen , appliances include fridge, microwave, toaster and electric hob. Included is an assortment of cooking pots, plates, bowls and cutlery

A gorgeous barn, converted to sleep 4 guests, set within a small working farm, with views of the moors and nearby Sheepstor.
A newly renovated traditional Devon shippen barn discovered during our farm renovation project (the farm that Spielberg rented when filming Warhorse!). Located at the foot of Sheepstor, nearest neighbours half a mile away, stunning views everywhere. Converted to high spec with underfloor heating and wood burner for those cold Dartmoor nights (and days sometimes), cosy lounge, modern kitchen and en suite bathrooms.
You can walk to Burrator reservoir, Cadover bridge or many of the stunning Dartmoor beauty spots, including Princetown by just following the same route the Monks used, from the end of the road. If you enjoy cycling, walking, riding, climbing, running, or white water rivers this is the place for you, and there are some awesome pubs too!

The Barns at Vixen Tor Farm sit in a wooded Dartmoor valley, rich with wildlife. Your stay promises to be cosy and comfortable, in a magical and peaceful setting. Dartmoor National Park surrounds the property and opportunities for wild swimming, walking, foraging, riding, climbing and biking are - quite literally - on the doorstep. To complement your stay we can provide a range of therapies in our bespoke garden studio. Local chefs can also come and cook for you, from the nearby farm house.
Two linked bank barns make up the accommodation, which is set in around 50 acres of private land. The barn conversions have been done to a high standard, creating a cosy and rustic feel with many unique features. The ground floor of the larger barn contains the bathroom (with full length bath), laundry facilities, an open plan kitchen, dining area and sitting room. It is overlooked by a mezzanine level which doubles as a sleeping area (comprising a sofa bed). The connected barn provides the main sleeping accommodation, with a king bed on the ground floor. A second mezzanine serves as additional sleeping space with a small double bed. The barns have underfloor heating powered by an air source heat pump, and heating can be augmented by the log-burner if desired. There is a designated parking area less than 50 metres from the front door, which is large enough for four vehicles. We can also accommodate trailers and horse boxes.
Vixen Tor Farm is located above an ancient oak forest, underneath the granite outcrop of Vixen Tor and above the steep sided Walkham Valley into which countless streams tumble. The site of Vixen Tor Farm was a Bronze Age farmstead and has been inhabited for over 3,500 years. Surrounded by trees and moorland, on the western boundary of the granite mass of Dartmoor and the surrounding metamorphic rock, our vast, mystical landscape is perfect for a calming and active break. We have access to cascading rivers, wild flower meadows, boulder strewn bluebell groves and the open moor – literally out the back door. The ancient and beautiful stannary town of Tavistock is ten minutes car journey from the end of the access drive - it hosts a wide range of independent shops, niche food stores, restaurants and popular covered market. Many of the surrounding villages boast excellent pubs - most of which provide a range of local real ales and delicious food.

Surrounded by high moor, yet just 20mins from the A38, Wydemeet offers spacious, light-drenched, luxurious rooms; exquisite fresh breakfast, peace, seclusion and comfort. All you will hear is the trickling of the river, and a neigh from the wild ponies just outside the gate!
Sumptuous, elegant, and stylish, just refurbished by local interior designers 'Artists and Artisans', no expense spared, all creams and golds, our look is described as 'Jane Austen Romantic'. Spacious double-aspect room with the 'WOW!' factor! Indulge! Flooded with sunshine in the mornings, all new huge mahogany six foot Super King bed with deep medium/firm 3000 pocket sprung mattress, electric blanket, thick crumply duvet and luscious pillows, luxurious throw and cushions - you won't want to climb out in the morning! Breath-taking views of garden, moorland, trees and fields beyond. Large en suite bathroom looking out across the garden to our horses' pasture full of wild flowers. Egyptian cotton bed linen; thick, soft, fluffy, warm towels and bath robes, heavy curtains, window-seats and luxurious deep-pile carpet. Antique furniture, original oils, period fireplace, large Freesat TV, free Wifi. Proper ground coffee, fresh milk, variety of teas, spring water, The White Company 'flower', gold rimmed porcelain etc The sun beams into the bathroom in the mornings, or enjoy a romantic candle-lit evening soak in the enormous bath built for two. You'll also find a separate shower, bidet and period fireplace. Retire, and wake up to total peace and silence - just the natural sounds of the countryside.
We offer a luxurious home from home - you are our VIP guest. We love having people to stay, and enjoy your company. Wydemeet is furnished for family and friends to relax in, offering sumptuous, elegant, indulgent, cosy comfort in a 'Jane Austen Romantic' style which is in complete sympathy with the architecture, location and mood of the house. High in the centre of the moor, Wydemeet is a family home, surrounded by wilderness, animals, and a certain amount of mud. We aim to provide the sort of friendly, warm, relaxed atmosphere of a top country house hotel, where nothing is too much trouble, but we're a lot cheaper and hope to be a bit less formal - more private and personal. Because our policy is to have just a few guests staying at any one time, we are able to be almost entirely flexible according to your individual needs and timetables. Check in and check out times are relaxed. Come down for breakfast at 11 o'clock in your pyjamas if you like! Otherwise we serve breakfast anytime from 9.00am. Feel free to wander around all day. Pop your champagne in our fridge and your wet clothes on the Aga - or we will wash them for you. Lie back in the hot tub, wander around the large garden, or investigate our six acre field full of wild flowers. Our intention is to offer you the happiest, most indulgent, romantic and memorable experience. We are at your service 24/7, and you are the focus of our attention. But what's really special about Wydemeet is its location. There is nothing else like it. So beautiful, so hidden, so wild, so silent, so unspoiled, so magical. Of all Dartmoor, even the locals choose our spot to celebrate their important occasions! We very much look forward to greeting you with a well-earned complimentary cup of tea and piece of cake, or a glass of wine, after your stunning journey to us across wildest Dartmoor! Included is a scrumptious Aga-cooked substantial breakfast of best quality local produce, prepared to order in the elegant dining room. Local bacon, sausages, eggs from next door cooked to order however you choose, porridge, fresh fruit salad, and home-made jam and marmalade, artisan bread and warm croissants, smoked salmon, or anything else you can think of. Fresh orange juice complete with bits. The house is furnished throughout with deep pile carpets, heavy curtains, squashy sofas, original paintings, photographs, old rugs and antiques. Your mobile phone will work if you join Panda and Vegas, our well mannered horses, in their large field. Or else feel free to use our landline. We love dogs and children but we have conditions. Dogs stay in the main downstairs hall of the house with our little chap - Twiglet. And children should be happy to sit calmly for breakfast with the grown-ups, on light-coloured upholstered chairs, at a polished mahogany dining room table, without spilling. The house was built 100 years ago in central nothingness, near the confluence of the Swincombe and West Dart, as a luxurious fishing lodge. Escape from the real world - walking, riding, cycling, fishing, wild swimming, climbing, kayaking, bird-watching, are all on the doorstep of our luxury B&B. There are even two golf courses built into the moorland itself, less than 20 minutes away! For the less mobile, amazingly there is a smooth path suitable for old-fashioned prams, wheelchairs and walking sticks, possibly even zimmer frames, that takes you nearly two miles along the bank of the River Swincombe through total wilderness, not a soul in sight! Return to relax and unwind on a sun lounger in our oh-so-private garden, or simply lie back in our jacuzzi watching the stars, as birds and bats circle in the branches of the trees above by the light of the moon, in the height of summer, or surrounded by snow! We think we're the only B&B on high Dartmoor that's got its own outdoor hot tub! The best food on Dartmoor, cosy pubs and cream teas are a just a short walk away. Until recently Wydemeet was lived in by a famous polar explorer, and there are still various Arctic artifacts dotted about. Situated on a dead-end lane leading to nowhere (well actually ending in a traditional Duchy hill farm complete with ponies, chickens, cows and sawmill), there is nothing here to disturb you or wake you up, save the neighing of the ponies on the moor outside the gate. Our back garden comprises all Dartmoor, ponies, sheep and belted galloways, buzzards, herons, kingfishers in the sky, trout and salmon waiting to be fished in the river. It's all rather like a mini-Scotland, but drier, warmer and sunnier with fewer midges, and considerably closer to civilisation! The house sits in the centre of 365 sq miles of the Dartmoor National Park, surrounded by footpaths and bridleways. Four sets of ancient stepping stones across the Rivers Swincombe and Dart lie within half a mile. An hour's walk, and you will find yourself in the eerie village of Princetown and its famous prison. To the south is Fox Tor Mire, better known as 'Grippen Mire' in The Hound of the Baskervilles, when a man drowned in it. A gentle twenty-minute stroll takes you to the fabulous Forest Inn at the end of our lane, forty-five minutes across fields and moorland and you can enjoy the ultimate lunch at Prince Hall Hotel, perfect cooking in a gorgeous and very friendly ambiance. Or try "The Wydemeet Challenge" - ten miles across every kind of terrain as the crow flies to the Warren House Inn - the second highest pub in England! We will come and collect you by car if you get stuck!

Luxurious Superking, or made up as twins; includes fulsome, scrumptious breakfast, served in elegant dining room. Surrounded by high moor, yet just 20mins from the A38, Wydemeet offers spacious, light-drenched, luxurious rooms; peace, seclusion and comfort. All you will hear is the trickling of the river, and a neigh from the wild ponies over the wall! Miles of footpaths stretch in every direction from our garden gate. Acres of wilderness, with myriad features and legends to explore.
Sumptuous, elegant, and stylish, just refurbished by local interior designers 'Artists and Artisans', no expense spared, our look is described as 'Jane Austen Romantic' in keeping with our beautiful home. Spacious luxurious double-aspect room. Indulge! Evening sunshine filters through the leaves of the trees outside the new sash windows, which have views right across to Bellever Tor. A top-of-the-range 6' Vispring Herald bed, made into twins if you prefer, with medium pocket sprung mattress and divan, electric blanket, thick crumply duvet and luscious pillows, luxurious throws and cushions - you won't want to get out in the morning! Breathtaking views of garden, moorland, trees and fields beyond. The bathroom, traditionally the 'coffin room' at the top of the stairs in the middle of the house, is arguably the best room of all, and we debated long and hard before sacrificing the original child's bedroom to create this lovely room. Filled with sunshine, you can lie in the bath, or sit on the loo, and gaze out at all of nature through the huge sash window, in complete privacy! Egyptian cotton bed linen; thick, soft, fluffy, warm towels and bath robes, heavy curtains, deep window-seats and luxurious deep-pile carpet. Antique furniture, original oils, large Freesat TV, period fireplace. Proper coffee, fresh milk, variety of teas, spring water, The White Company 'flowers' toiletries. Retire, and wake up to total peace and silence - just the natural sounds of the countryside. Wydemeet is situated high on Dartmoor in the remote location of Hexworthy. Surrounded by moorland, it suits walkers, people that love the outdoors and quiet relaxation. Ideal for mini breaks, adventures and retreats. Our 7 acre garden and field are organic with wild flowers abounding in the spring. Stone rows, hut circles, tors and a stone circle all close by. Our hamlet has a pub and a church, and the nearest shop is 4 miles away in the village of Holne. Bedroom with en suite bathroom has views looking out over Dartmoor. Friendly kitchen where you can chat to your host if you like. Breakfast is included in the price. Wydemeet has easy access to Dartmoor (from the garden gate) for those that want to explore further afield. I am available to give advice about your own walks , visiting local beauty spots, eating out and shopping in local towns. Be aware that you are staying right on Dartmoor and need good wet weather gear if wanting to explore. The nearest fuel station is Pear Tree, on the A38 at Ashburton - an eight mile free-wheeling trip if necessary!
We offer a luxurious home from home - you are our VIP guest. We love having people to stay, and enjoy your company. Wydemeet is furnished for family and friends to relax in, offering sumptuous, cosy comfort in a 'Jane Austen Romantic' style which is in complete sympathy with the architecture, location and mood of the house. High in the centre of the moor, Wydemeet is a family home, surrounded by wilderness, animals, and a certain amount of mud. Set in its on seven acres of glorious wilderness, we have the whole of Dartmoor as our back garden, footpaths stretching in every direction from our garden gate - not a main road in sight nor sound! Included is a scrumptious Aga-cooked substantial breakfast of best quality produce, prepared to order in the elegant dining room. Dry cured bacon, sausages, farm eggs cooked to order however you choose, porridge, fresh fruit salad, and home-made jam and marmalade, artisan bread and warm croissants, smoked salmon, or anything else you can think of. Fresh orange juice complete with bits. The house is furnished throughout with deep pile carpets, heavy curtains, squashy sofas, original paintings, photographs, old rugs and antiques. Egyptian cotton bed linen, thick, soft, fluffy warm towels and bathrobes, The White Company toiletries, antique gold-rimmed porcelain, ground coffee, fresh milk, various teas, large Freesat TVs and free WiFi. Your mobile phone will work if you join Diamond and Vegas, our well mannered horses, in their large field. Or else feel free to use our landline. The two ensuite bathrooms have baths with shower attachments, and the biggest, with its view across the garden to the field beyond, also has a bidet, shower cubicle, and open fireplace. We love dogs but not on our thick, clean bedroom carpets! So they must stay quietly downstairs in a comfortable hall area with our little mutt, Twiget. To the south is Fox Tor Mire, better known as 'Grimpen Mire' in The Hound of the Baskervilles, when a man drowned in it.
