Food scene

Your new local! A 10 minute walk into the village will bring you to the Queens Head Inn. A traditional country pub with a surprisingly varied menu. With an old-fashioned log fire and both indoor and outdoor seating, this pub has a cosy, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere all year round. They frequently run special evenings, so look out for their pie, steak, and curry nights! We recommend: Keeping an eye out for the ‘specials’ evenings, they are all a hit!

Walk around the lake! The Ullswater Way Spanning over 20 miles, the Ullswater Way walking route is a great way to see all that our local area has to offer. You can start from any point and head in any direction, or even use the Ullswater steamers to break the walk into smaller sections. The full loop has a bit of everything: Forests, hills, waterfalls, beaches, cliffs, wildlife, villages and a few pubs along the way! The full walk can be achieved in a day, and depending on your pace (and whether you get distracted by stopping off in pubs along the way!) should take between 7-9 hours. We feel the walk is best split over two days, so that you can take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery around you. Take a picnic and have lunch on the lake shore, or up one of the fells with an unbeatable view. Areas of note: Swinburn Park: This part of the walk takes you through a forest - Depending on what time of day you are passing through there, you may be lucky enough to see some deer. Keep your eyes peeled! Ullswater Steamers: To see the lake from a different perspective, split the walk in 2 by getting a steamer to/from Pooley Bridge or Glenridding. Parking is available but fills up quickly. We recommend: Our favourite section is from Howtown to Patterdale - This is the section of the walk where there are few roads, instead it is just you and nature, it also tends to be the quieter section of the walk (we love our peace and quiet!).

A great rainy day activity! It sounds silly, but also makes perfect sense… Visiting the nearby waterfall during heavy rain makes it all the more spectacular, you can hear the water roaring! There is plenty of pay and display parking, operated by the National Trust, meaning it is free if you are a member.

Adventure

Why not try Wakesurfing!? Similar to wakeboarding, except the idea is that you eventually let go of the rope and free-surf the wake created by the boat. A specialist boat is used and creates its own wave for you to surf along behind it. A truly unique experience, enhanced by the super-encouraging and informative instructors! This does get busy so we advise giving them a call or booking online as soon as possible! Website: https://www.ullswaterwakeandsurf.co.uk/ Tel.: 07561465396 (9am-5pm) Email: info@wakeandsurf.co.uk
